I'm not here because of Cracked. I'm here because I saw this cartoon as a kid and wanted to see it again. Thumbs up this comment if....well, if you so choose, of your own volition. :)
Wow... it has been atleast 20 years since the last time i had seen this...
i wish mum never through out my old cartoons... how am i going to track them down?
does anyone ever remember watching a christmas special cartoon with some kid flying in a plane accross the world with santa clause? my memory is abit vague but it looked like it came from the same era or a little bit later
Wow this is the only casper film I remember watching as a child..wasn't sure if I was going to find it since had no idea which one it was...wonderful memories!
Casper will never grow up, so that mom will be raising him forever. Then again, he probably doesn't need to eat or anything, so at least it won't cost anything.
Casper is a metaphor for black people. He represents a black person trying to find acceptance in a white society, but can't because white people fear and hate black people because of the actions of his peers
wait... so the message to the kids is "if you don't provoke a life long friendship within first 10 seconds of knowing a person - you should go lie infront of a train... and when THAT GOES WELL you'll be popular with other people"???
I don't know why so many people hate on casper wtf? but ya'll like scoobie doo? get the fuck outa here! Casper 4 life!!+underdog/rocky bullwinkle, duck tales carman san diego.
This is '' The FRIENDLY GHOST'' not a Casper cartoon yet . He didnt get the name Casper untill the first comic book came out and they named him Casper. Then the cartoons also called him Casper in the later 1950's theater cartoon shorts.
When I saw this as a little kid, I thought Casper was being dumb when he lay down to get run over by the train. Then I learned about suicide, and was like "Holy shit..." Pretty depressing for a children's show.
Casper is surprisingly depressing for a children's cartoon
He died from an illness when he was a kid, around 5 or 6, so I'm guessing he didn't have much time to make a real friend while he was alive. Then as a ghost, all he wants is a friend but since he's a ghost, he scares of people and can't make one.
@GreetingsfromWills Well, that's the film explanation to it. According to Harvey Comics, he was always this way -- ghosts being supernatural beings born by a ghost dad and a ghost mom.
@Lickr Well none of those who voted thumbs up on his comment didn't even finish the episode? - He ends up having friends and a family, yet his "resume" didn't include that so he ended up interpreting it wrong.
Lol so whats with casper committing suicide? Guess folks were more lenient with what there kids were watchin back in the day. What happened to those days?
@RetroVideoFan Is that a fact? He was already dead. Really! Wow! I just thought all people had bodies with ghostly forms. Thanks for that information. No, I know Casper's body's already dead, that's why he's a ghost. It was wishful thinking on my part that the train might somehow kill the ghost/spirit part of Casper to put him out of his pathetic, whining misery.
Well, you know how fictional ghosts are depicted nowadays as being able to temporarily "ghost" solid objects they're holding so that they can phase through walls and stuff with them, right?
All the old classic cartoons were fun to watch and enjoy some like Casper tought kids a leason. All the old Classic cartoons from Bugs to Daffy to Popeye, Casper, tom and Jerry ect ect went thru different Designs untill they were drawn how we all know and love.
This short had the NTA logo at the beginning and end of the cartoon, it shows Famous Studios at the beginning and end. There must be a rare Paramount logo variant somewhere in the can if you've seen the theatrical version.

Odd, in the early years Casper was a FAT,WHINY,CRYBABY OF A GHOST, but in later years (thanks to Chuck Jones WB classic "Ghost Wanted" which served as a inspiration) today's Casper became a classic to all to love & cherish for future generations to come.

This story's climax remuinds me of "The VInisble" (Disney's Hollywood Pictures, makers of the M.Night Shymalan classic "The Sixth Sense" which made Haley Joel Osment a star), the secne with star Justin Chatwin (I found out where he had been before--"War of the Worlds") as a ghost shoots himself and well...can't die!
I remember I had this on video when I was a kid and watched it all the time!. Oh the memories. I like the beginning when the scaring ghosts woke. I think this was the very first Casper episode.
