Technically, the Soviets were an allied nation. And the proud soldiers of both germany and the Soviet Union fought for their countries just as much as soldiers fighting in the armies of the western allies. If you look deep down at the everyday man on either side, you see that they really aren't that different.
So yes, all soldiers who fought in the war should be remembered honorably (save perhaps the SS and some of the Soviet penal battalions)

I'm sorry to see people thinking this way, that war is natural. In fact look throughout history and you will see that people waged war due to political reasons (one ruler not liking a another), need for wealth and power (the expansion of empires such as Roman empire), and lack of understanding people from different regions (as in the case of crusades and such). THOSE AREN'T NATURAL REASONS. They are causes which are the result of ignorance, , and the competitive system of society we live in.

When it comes to military movements all over the world, we pretty much hide behind them man c'mon. All my buddies who served a four month term in Iraq said they were so thankful for how well the U.S. mobilized and took care of them.

I said I DUNNO ABOUT WW1 AND WW2. I respect no war. Its nothing but people mindlessly killing each other. Whats so glorious about it?? War is anything but mindless. In World War II, Allied soldiers were sent into Germany and its surrounding countries to stop a German invasion and to liberate Jews in hiding and the prisoners of concentration camps.
Canadian soldiers and other UN soldiers are in Afganistan on a peacekeeping mission, protecting the civilans from the Taliban. I believe that to be heroic, not mindless.

hellgorama, it is tragic but people will always be fighting and killing eachother over many different causes and beliefs. It is not something that can be stopped. The best we can do is work to prevent wars, educate and spread knowledge and if we do fight, then fight on the right said for the right reasons. That is why I think the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan deserve more than '0' respect.

Thanks to technology, much of our differences would have been settled if it weren't for people's thirst for power, control, and wealth. The current system we live in, allows such BEHAVIOR and gives the means to do so through politics, and business enterprises. Get rid of those and all other means to cause massive destruction and war will be reduced to nothing but a mere intellectual argument.

I'll remember the true Canadians who died for our country under our true Canadian Flag in WWI, WWII and the Korean war. I will not feel a connection to today's traitorous government that has the code word for white ethnic cleansing - multiculturalism - enshrined in its treasonous constitution. And although I will respect those fighting in Afghanistan today, I will not respect the reason why they are there.

Technically, the Soviets were an allied nation. And the proud soldiers of both germany and the Soviet Union fought for their countries just as much as soldiers fighting in the armies of the western allies. If you look deep down at the everyday man on either side, you see that they really aren't that different.
So yes, all soldiers who fought in the war should be remembered honorably (save perhaps the SS and some of the Soviet penal battalions)
