  • I saw Homer & Jethro live at a music convention in Chicago in 1959. I'd not seen anything like them, and they were great, of course!

I found "Homer & Jethro Strike Back" in a Sears store. Then it was called Sears & Robucks. This song of course was on it. It was on the RCA CAMDEN label. It was a really great collection. I was in high school at the time and I played that record so much. Even back then I didn't see their product in stores much. Too bad, they were so great.

  • This song was also on their "at the Convention" album. On Homer's mandolin solo, he instead played "Fascination", and then, starting in mid-solo, we hear the following:

Homer: "what are we playin'? (pause) this thing don't fascinate me none..." (audience chuckles)

Jethro: "don't talk over my solo, please"

Homer: "don't play over my talkin'" (audience laughs)

Homer continues solo until interrupted by Homer singing "she had nine buttons on her nightgown but she could only fasten eight!"

  • There used to be a great video here of them singing it on the Johnny Cash show...possibly right after "Baby It's Cold Outside". They did the "Fascination" gag, and some very good video of their playing. If anybody has that, I'd sure like to capture it in RealPlayer!

  • A song for people who like to eat. I'm a firm believer in -We are what we eat! These guy's are very funny. Mother turned me on to them in the 50's and I think one of them is gone now. However, another one joined shortly after. Will have to read up on them.

  • Homer and Jethro are two of the funnist singer's around! Mother loved listoning to their song's in the middle 50's. We were both on the chunkie side and I I still am. Women do not like being made fun of for any reason. However, it was only meant for the one's who over stepped their boundaries in other's live's. Kate Smith was plump and I loved her singing. As well as Poveratti who I absolutely adored. Johnny Lee, now that's a lot of man. Something about that beard and look. Holy Toledo@
