@TwinVulcan No, it's not easy to get the permit. Both the State and Federal gov't have to approve it, which means that only people in states that allow it can get them. Also, the supply for NFA weapons availible to civilians is pretty low because they can only buy ones made before 1986. People who own gun stores are generally very careful to obey the law because the ATF doesn't take it lightly when gun dealers break the law. The risk of getting caught outweighs the profit for breaking the law.

Essentially it was a gift certificate for a gun store for the gun, and he had to has a background check to get it. There was a truck dealership in MO that did that several years ago. They weren't just giving guns to anyone who got the bank account or truck. They had to be legally able to own a gun.

If cars were illegal, the only people who wouldn't have cars would be the ones who actually obey the law. Same with guns. Murder is illegal. Does that mean that there are no murders? Of course, if guns never were invented or were extremely limited in number, there would be less assaults and murders with them. But the same is also true of cars, pools, hammers, and anything else that causes people to die. As you said, murder can be done in a whole manner of ways; the methods change but the people commiting murder are ultimately responsible

There are approximately 20,000 gun laws in the US. They aren't effective in restricting access or stopping people from using them illegally. More laws won't help.

@TwinVulcan No, it's not easy to get the permit. Both the State and Federal gov't have to approve it, which means that only people in states that allow it can get them. Also, the supply for NFA weapons availible to civilians is pretty low because they can only buy ones made before 1986. People who own gun stores are generally very careful to obey the law because the ATF doesn't take it lightly when gun dealers break the law. The risk of getting caught outweighs the profit for breaking the law.

Essentially it was a gift certificate for a gun store for the gun, and he had to has a background check to get it. There was a truck dealership in MO that did that several years ago. They weren't just giving guns to anyone who got the bank account or truck. They had to be legally able to own a gun.

One thing is for sure, these officers do NOT want to do this on a daily basis... They did a great job but it sure takes some gutts to do that job! And anyone swearing or cursing at the police should stick their head in such situations... One can talk big all the time and call names at those that are actually DOING this job, but I would like to see you run in to situations like this with totally no fear at all!
