  • @071349905228 you got that right :)

  • i don't care that blu ray comes in my life. DVD is still the greatest invention of all time for home entertainment.

  • I received the sad news that Hollywood Video closed down in 2011 due to the Redbox $1.00 DVD Rental Kiosks at McDonald's Restaurants. REDBOX ALL THE WAY!

  • yeah now we have ipods to take owr shows with us oh times have changed

  • i dont remmber dvd players being so expensive i just bought on from best buy for $10

  • The future arrived yesterday...

  • You know, 1080 is really only about 2 MP. I wish "full HD" and blu-ray were more like a decent digital camera's resolution: 6 MP or higher. All 1080 does is reduce the visibility of scan lines when viewing on a very large screen. But wait! Isn't this what upconverting does? I will rent blu-ray over DVD any day, but am quite hesitant to actually buy discs until significantly higher res. technology comes around.

  • @DelilahThePig Apparently Japan is developing something called Super Hi-Vision, which is 7,680 × 4,320 pixels. Also, some HDMI cables have hidden support for images up to 4096x2160 for some reason.

  • still pulling the same stunt today, only with blu ray

  • Awesome commercial! I miss Hollywood Video. They went bankrupt this month.

  • eh, it will never last... laserdisk is where its at!

  • hahahah

  • @TreyRust - Laserdisks? BULLSHIT ! Beata tapes baby!! They're coming back!!! GET READY FOR IT!!!

  • @WKRPinCINN Bullshit!, CED BABY!

  • i remember getting the batman and robin vhs in 1997. before the movie they had a preview for dvd. it made it look so good, but back then it was very advanced.

  • I remember the early fox dvd's no special features and then they would re release the same movies on a medeocre special edition and sometimes re-cut the movies without telling you that they changed some scenes (Speed 2 cruise contol)

  • I want Puke. this Ad is nasty.

  • Meh!

  • This isn't exactly early- the oldest it could be is 1999. Disney actually put out a few titles in 1998 but nothing anyone actually wanted. Fox and Paramount were the last holdouts, they didn't put out anything until late 1998 (and most Fox titles were extremely overpriced.)

  • Ha, and I thought my first DVD players was a bargain at $100 when I bought it in 2001. I remember this commercial, I always mentally inserted the line "Comedy is funnier on DVD" in the opening section.

  • Lol! $299...I feel sorry for the suckers that bought one of those for that price. I've seen them as low as $50.

  • I paid $799 for my first one, but it also plays laserdiscs. And guess what- it STILL works! I had a $35 player just for playing PAL format discs and it died after about 2 years.

  • Wow, talk about getting your money's worth.

  • you do realize that we are suckers for buying bluray players for $299, right?

  • "Sick it down"

    -John Romero.

  • that's why don't have one!

  • @TreyRust Theyre cheaper then that.

  • This is taken on most Warner Home video vhs from Lethal Weapon 4 to Contact

  • I also remember this commerical! It first brought me to life of the DVD- back when I was a kid....

  • Hard to believe DVD's been out for 11 years now! My main player's still a 1998 Pioneer DVD/Laserdisc machine, though I'll hopefully be upgrading to Blu-Ray and a new TV by the end of the year.

  • @eyeh8cbs Blu-Ray sucks man. The transition from VHS to DVD was revolutionary the attempted transition from DVD to Blu-Ray isn't. DVD is where it's at and DVD's will be around until the world just switches over to something that's more of a change. Blu-Rays are still the same size disc, VHS tapes were bulky, that's why they switched

  • @AustinnSailorFilm Have you seen Blu-Ray properly displayed? Most discs are beautiful- DVD can look good but some discs use too much compression. Having compressed sound on DVD was a big mistake too, which they've since remedied on Blu-Ray. Of course it won't make much difference if you have a standard-def TV and use its built-in speakers.

  • @AustinnSailorFilm eventually the cost of producing a blu will go below a DVD and they'll stop producing DVDs, THAT is why they switched. Besides, Blu can do something DVD cant, 3D. That's pretty revolutionary.

  • @thatguyontheright1 Wow just wow. *faceplam*.

  • lol I remember this. this was the time when I was hoping that dvd's wouldn't phase out fast like laserdiscs
