  • I finally learned it! Thank you!

  • This really works!! Thank you!!

  • Thank you very much:) All i needed was a little guidance, i could do them but never sustain it and my tongue would just stop rolling half way through everytime:P As soon as you said to sort of force your tongue to stay on the soft palate it totally changed for me, now it's very powerful and i can feel the vibration from it all over my mouth! thanks again, my singing program will be much more effective for me now:)

  • I must not be breathing the sound hard enough cause I still can't friggin' roll that 'R'!

  • Comment removed

  • I can make the sound and feel my tongue vibrating behind my teeth, but it also feels like there's a bit of vibration at the back of my tongue/throat. Is that normal? It seems like I can't get my tongue to make sound by the ridge until by tongue is also sort of vibrating at the back too.

  • I still can't do it :(. Can I just use Lip Rolls instead? Its so hard

  • I can almost do it now! You're a clever dude, my friend, I'm gonna take another crack at Italian once I get it down.

  • This helps ;o Thanks

  • Thank's Dude, I'v watched so many 8 to 10 minutes long Video's and couldn't do, After watching your 2:48 vid I can do it now .... Thank's again !!

  • @IrishAce1000 no problem, are you learning to sing?

  • Does your website still work?

  • @Kyrailwilliams Yes it was temporarily down because of server problems with the network company; however, the problem is fixed and it is back up and running!!

  • why cant a fuckin do it??

  • @hypeguruful I cant either...

  • What sound is he making? A "her" sound?

  • i just can't seem to do it, my tongue just won't vibrate....tried several methods still nothin, what do i do?? i'm tryin to learn czech and i can't roll my r's if i had a gun to my head.

  • sigh.... this is not easy

  • the R's in most languages are in the back of the throat against your soft palate, the spanish R is in the front, i think against your hard palate.

  • @Jacc0s great insight, I think you are correct about the hard palate information.

  • @wovuween147 I've been watching many videos trying to accomplish this trilling, do you know why when some people trill, their lips purse together, like yours, and sometimes when they trill, it looks like they're smiling because their lips are apart. When I try, mines purse together. Are there two ways of doing this?

  • @sUnnydUcks123 Yes, the tongue trill does not require that you purse your lips or smile, you can roll your tongue with either of these; however, the easier one is where your lips are pursed. Great question

  • wovuween147, I've been trying to do this for a while since it's required in Russian. Which is why I'm not really that great speaking for the most part. My tongue likes to bend upwards all the way to the top then do it or my throat starts making gargling noises. Any idea how to fix/correct this problem? Because it doesn't sound nothing like that lady doing the purr like sound, if when I think I do it doesn't last long nor can I do it in words, because it doesn't trill at all.

  • That was a really good trill, I'm Scottish and in Scottish English and Gaelic thats how we pronounce all of our "r" 's so it comes naturally to us, but I've never seen an American manage it, well done!

  • I can do it no problem, I find it comes naturally to me, even my first try.

  • This helped me a lot man, I gave up years ago but this helped me achieve it and I feel adrenaline filled now.

  • Man, I can't thank you enough! I mean it! I only just starting to finally get a handle on this (as I type this). I get can't get any further, but only because every time I start to hit it I am sooooo overjoyed that I start panting.

Seriously, I'm a spanish student and I have been trying to do this for a long time. I have good teachers and tons of people have tried to explain it to me, but it never made sense. I once had a freaking dream where I could roll my Rs. Thank you!

  • @GreenGold33 Your very welcome, I hope you are able to do this to your hearts desire!!! If you ever want to learn to sing then check out my website!!!

  • Thank you being more specific some other videos (one video about "how to" do this, just said, "pur like a cat"....) Unfortunately, this still doesn't work for me. No matter what position I put my tongue in, in my mouth, any air I push out doesn't really push on my tongue; there's always a route around it somehow, for the air to escape. I'm starting to think I simply don't have the muscle control in my tongue. I have a hard enough time saying Rs normaly, and I've spoekn English all my life

  • @stargazer1682 I'm glad you are seeing success with this exercise because it will help to strength your vocal chords and even out your voice. If you ever have any questions feel free.

  • @wovuween147 That's not what I said - I said I appreciate you going into more specifics than other videos - a lot of which is terrible - but I found no success despite that fact.

    Thanks any way.

  • @stargazer1682 I understand, make sure when you fold your tongue you try and place the very tip of your tongue near the back of your front row teeth and blow as much air as possible in short spurts, like a car engine struggling to start. If that doesn't work, then stick your tongue out of your mouth with your mouth closed on your tongue. Then blow like your teasing someone and sing at the same time. This should train your tongue over time to vibrate freely and do the tongue trill.

  • @stargazer1682 Your most welcome......I hope you are able to do a tongue trill to your hearts desire!!

  • this was hard to learn. I'm Mexican, but I was raised on my moms side of the family where no one speaks Spanish, only one other person does. I met a friend in high school who taught me to speak Spanish, but I could never get the tounge trill. I found that if you can learn to fold the tip of your tounge ( just the very tip) over in half, you will be able to do it. I don't know why

  • @blueterrior Also when you do the tongue trill, make sure you are pretending to make a hard "d" sound, that should help your tongue flutter.

  • what is the soft palate and where is it??

  • @RedNudidity I'm sorry, I meant hard palate in the video, it is the roof of your mouth that is hard, the soft palate is the roof of your mouth (at the back) that is soft.

  • I have a question, does tongue trill actually means that your tongue is vibrating at to create these sounds or is it your uvula that is vibrating on top of the base of the tongue and does that? I can do these sounds but i'm sure it's not my tongue but the uvula that does it.. am i going in the wrong direction here?

  • @RenLB It is the tongue that vibrates on the roof of the mouth, not the vibration of the uvulva that makes the primary vibrations......good question

  • @wovuween147

There is also the uvular trill, as in French. What you're describing is an alveolar trill, as in Spanish, among other languages.

  • @Crealosa yes you are correct crealosa

  • Comment removed

  • Isn't the soft palate at the back of your mouth? How can my tongue reach that?

  • @ianbugayong You're rite......i messed up the hard n soft palate while making the vid, everything else is correct

  • Wow! so simple and it actually works! Thanks!

  • Another way to kind of get a feel for it is saying "ladder" because of the way your tongue moves when you say it. I learned that way for spanish. I hope that I'm doing it the correct way.

  • @stefanieblair16 so how could i apply it to my scales, just saying ladder over and over or something?

  • @1992Scar4Life You can do it with any scale you chose whether it be a traditional scale, octave, mixed octave, perfect fifth or fourth, or whatever creative scale you conjure!

  • @1992Scar4Life No I mean it's so you can learn to do tongue trills if your having trouble doing them not to help with your scales or singing directly.

  • I don't do it that way, but it sounds the same? I sorta put the base of my tongue on my soft palet and blow air through...is that wrong?

  • I have tried your suggestion and assuming that you have used all the correct terminology, I would not suggest doing it this way. mainly because if the base of your tongue remains on your soft palate, then your are creating tension and have a very closed sound. Try doing it with a low larynx to get a bigger sound

  • @wovuween147 it sounds sorta like a purr to me, lol, but i will try it the normal way 2morrow...=]

  • wow i have tried and tried and tried but i still cant do it! maybe its just me >.>

  • take your time and don't give up....usually it's an air flow problem...but keep tryin...you'll get it

  • @wovuween147 kk thx ^-^

  • Thanks very much for your explanation! Really useful and efficient!

  • thanks, I try to help anyone learn how easy it is to sing

  • yeah yeah, i guess everyones familiar whose mother-tongue has latino R :)

  • hmm well soft palate is too far, need to do with hard palate maybe?

  • yes, I meant to illustrate the exercise with the hard palate not the soft, are you familiar with the exercise?
