Versailles, Kentucky;'s own John Conlee.....Another proud country musician from the great Commonwealth of Kentucky along with Tom T. Hall, Eddie Montgomery, Troy Lee Gentry, Steve Warriner, Dwight Yoakam....the entire band Exile, from My home town of Richmond...Kentucky has a strong connection to Country Music and I am proud to have a small part of that being the grandson of an original member of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys!
@torchwoodjackharknes <<< WOW u r very very smart and proud of KENTUCKY SINGERS !!! Im sure "" MISS LORETTA"" would be proud of your knowledge or is BUTCHER HOLLOR no longer in KY ???
Someone mentioned George Jones. Back in summer of '85 I saw Conlee and George Jones at the same concert in a farmer's field. Well down at the side of the stage was Tammy Wynette and George was singing the love song he had written for her. They wer broken up by this time. The entire audience had fixed their stare on Tammy as George sang her song and she stood there crying along with 3000 other people. And then it was her turn. Powerful night. It was Woodstock for me!
You're absolutely right jloring....... George Jones would actually be my NUMBER 1 pick, hands down! I also like some of the later country singers such as Jonh Anderson, Randy Travis, Alan Jackson and others. Come on Country Boys......let's TAKE THIS COUNTRY BACK!

One of the best of the older country singers. Spent many nights listening to this one on the bar jukebox! I'm almost 67 years old and NEVER WILL stop loving country music. John Conlee, Hank Williams, Hank Jr., Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty and the many others. Whatever the hell they're playing on the radio now shouldn't be allowed on the AIR! Especially the trash the young kids listen to! Keep listening to the REAL music fans.
@recordrick <<< Almost 500 videos on my channel and probably 99 percent of them PURE COUNTRY, oldies, and southern Gospel...... maybe couple modern country lol. So keep checkin the Midnight Ryders channel and videos !!!
@SuperWanda1964 I tell you this young generation does not not know what country music is. More specifically they don't know what music is period. I'm 20 years old and i'm ashamed to be a part of this generation I wish i could have been born back in the goosd old days when country was country and people knew how to live.
I was on the 'Back side of 30' had split off with wife #1 best move I ever made and I had a blast for about 5 years.Nearly died but it was a blast none-the-less
I'm 33 and cant get enough of this song. she did go back to mom with the daughter. my empty apartment sure doesn't feel like a home.. I'm back on the bottom and getting by. you should see the looks i get when I'm stopped at a red light with my window down blasting this on my stereo lol.
@davidallenroth I can relate somewhat...tho my circumstances are different to be sure. Separated from the wife, then she passed away before I could fix things. Now I'm 32, in an empty apartment, in some ways better off than I was say, a year ago, but lonesome as hell and stuck on her memory...and I've been known to take to the bottle. Damn good song regardless of any situation.
@jebarr7391ngc ohhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! i can drink allllllllllllllllllll night long....miller lite ,vodka and spiced rum and listen this great country music...
This seems like my life right now. Im 44 and been married for 19 years. Ten years ago I became disabled and now my wife wants a divorce because she says I've changed too much. Also, she can't help take care of me anymore. GOD will help me through everything. AMEN
Still good music, glad i ran across it., until I started listening to it. Didn't think about the emotional response it would....{emotional moment}.... create until it was too late. Guess that's what makes the good ones though, when you can relate.
I'm on the backside of twenty, and been married for 4 years. This song makes me scared to get older. The pain he breathes of losing his wife & son is palpable.
@foolclip <<< THANKS for the comment but from someone well on the back side of thirty i can tell u DONT WORY about gettin older just enjoy life while u can
@foolclip im on the backside of twent and this song almost describes the situation to a T. Treat her right and love her to death or you'll do nothin but regret it and work to pay child support and drink!!!

@Chuck5653 im 25 and i have to give my dad some major credit for always listening to classic country.Thank God for songs from the heart.thats what real music is about.
I've always liked John Conlee's music and how it tells a great story, even though it's not always a happy one, that a lot of people can relate to at some point in their lives. Good music, great voice. Thanks for posting it!
love the song, could have done without the VIOLINS though. The rest is great, 3/4 that changes to a walking bass with backbeat in the chorus - love it, gives the illusion of swing. Fabulous - thanks for posting.
@bvick777 The song is in 3/4 time and the bass notes in the verse are simple (and 1 rest rest) but in the chorus it goes 1 2 3 and another emphasis is only on the notes between (1 and 2 and 3 and) with only the and (the backbeat) and it adds motion and fullness without getting faster. Mostly this is done in 4/4 time, but this is 3/4 time. Then it goes back to the simple feel and then the WALKING feel 1 and 2 and 3 and......... on the chorus.
