Strangely, the USS Cyclops and her sister ships, the Proteus and the Nereus were all lost in the same manner, that is by vanishing. (the Proteus vanished sometime in November 1941, followed by the Nereus about a month later)
The Proteus Class Colliers have a reputation for being unlucky all four were lost at sea, three (Cyclops, Nereus, and Proteus) vanished while making the exact same journey albet 20 years apart and carrying the exact same cargo (Metallic Ore), the fourth, Jupiter, is better known to the public by a different name: USS Langley and was scuttled after being crippled by Japanese Dive Bombers
Carpathia was the ship that responded to Titanic's SOS, Californian didn't recieve the SOS due to her radio being switched off a half hour before the accident and the lookouts misintrepreted Titanic's distress rockets which were being fired at the wrong intervals due to a communications break down amongst Titanic's crew and therefore didn't respond even though she was closer
Gawd...I remember reading about the three amoured cruisers lost in September 1914. They were all in the same formation, and each one was sunk in turn. Such is war...sadly.
@thespawnof66 Yes, and although I am a proud brit, it was an embarrassing moment for our navy. All three ships patrolling a fixed line with no destroyer escort. When the first ship to be hit (Aboukir) exploded, Hogue pulled up along side to assist. Hogue was then twice and then, unbelieveably, Cressy, despite seeing U9, did the same and launched all her boats to assist the other 2 sinking ships. Cressy was then hit twice and all three sank. A dark day in our navies history!!

@DHAirsoftSniper22, they had Ice Fields between them & the Titanic and could not get around them in time to rescue the people in the ship.

Do you mind if I also use this song for my video? I can't figure out a good song to conclude my world war 1 tribute videos (year 1918).
