  • Watched SO many tutorials before this that didn't help at all. I had to play it a couple times cause it was kinda fast but now I know what I need to!! THANKS!!!

  • FFS, Im trying to search for videos of gimp masks and this is all that comes up.

What retard named this thing gimp?

  • when you use the clone tool on the hair the thumbnail dose not change, and when i use the clone to for the hair it dose change. am i doing something wrong?

  • This is Wonderful! Thank so much!

  • Here is a more detail instruction gimpusers (dot )com /tutorials/mask-hair-strands (dot )html

  • could u put it a trasparent backgroumnd. like Rendering it ;)

  • I have no idea how to get to LEVELS we cannot read your mind and we are not familiar with where everything is so how's about a little simple instruction thanks. reldas11

  • SPEAK UP BOY

  • Thank you for such an excellent tutorial.

  • Thank you for such an excellent tutorial.

  • You're skipping steps and not explaining what you're doing. I can't use this at all. Thanks anyway.

  • OMG! i've had gimp for over a year now and i never understood how to use masks This was so helpful! Thanks.

  • When I cut 4:39-4:47 My layer didn't go transparent it went black..Why is that??? The background copy, the first one

  • Brilliant! Forget all the thankless folks who complain. Let them do one instead. Here is what people are likely having an issue with: * Colors > Desaturate > Lightness > OK * Colors > Invert * Colors > Levels * Paint with white areas you want to keep, paint with black for areas to disappear. * Add new layer and add in a desired background. * Drag to bottom. * Activate b/w layer * Ctrl+A > Ctrl+C * Hide b/w layer * Activate image * Right click > Add Mask Layer * Ctrl+V * Anchor floating.

  • Okay, why the clone brush on the one side of the picture over her hair? What does the usage of the clone brush instead of using the regular paint brush as he did on the left side accomplish?

  • this seems to be great way to cut out detailed images, however takes a gimp expert to know what he is doing, because it is so poorly presented.

  • Better than MS paint, GHxx1.

  • Very good! Works fine! Helped me a lot.

  • I really do not understand why author use clone tool, maybe because I do not grasp the idea of clone. Why not use only black brush on the top of the head like it was used on the right side of image.

  • I agree with Eboneetigress. Mumbling and not enough directions/explanation. A great idea - wish I could have actually learnt how to do it. I hope someone actually posts a CLEAR & ARTICULATE set of directions on this.

  • Dude, when you narrate, it would be great if you could SPEAK UP and SPEAK CLEARLY. Your instructions are poor - you click around without giving clear directions and we're supposed to follow you? Yeah, right!,

  • The reason you cant clone is, that you need to hold CTRL down meanwhile .

  • This is what one gets when one searches for "Gimp mask" on YouTube. I'm not sure if I should applaud you, giggle my brains out, or sulk.

  • It´s okay!

  • do i have to use the clone tool?

  • and i cannot clone!!?!?!?

  • Would this work for a whole person on a background aswell?

  • sweet lord. Thanks for the tutorial but in parts you are barely intelligible.

  • ehh, to nie działa jak jest duża różnica kolorów, do bani tutorial

  • no dobra jak się pomęczyć to da się zrobić - cofam :)

  • Thanks so much, i guess i watched it back and forth because the tutorial and voice was a bit hurried in places but i will try this later this evening, i will be very pleased if it works, wrote down the instructions to the word and will get back to you!!! Great technique anyway!!!

  • That was soooo helpful! Thank you! :)

  • got a problem my gimp wont let me use clone tool so ya...

  • You need to set a point* where the clone brush need to start cloning.

*=You do this to hold ctrl+ click on the start place.

    Jeroen

  • my wont either

  • I appreciate the fact you're trying to help; however, some things I just couldn't understand =)

  • @xxcararacxx - don't be too harsh for you;)

  • nevermind, i'm retarded :)

  • when i do select all cut it just makes the whole thing black. what am i doing wrong?

  • technique is good...but the narration is like a porn movie sound track :-o ?

  • I'm sorry, I could not follow you at all. You need to make the instructions VERY CLEAR. Maybe even number the steps. Zoom in to EVERYTHING you're doing. And speak clearly. TELL ME what to do. Always assume the user doesn't know what they are doing.

  • @Rogdude Totally. I *don't* have any idea what I'm doing, and while I'd REALLY love to know how to do this... I'm thoroughly confused.... :/

  • Very informative and totally awesome.. Nice work indeed.. I did a rather complex cutout just the other week that took me about 3 hours. Had I used a mask I could have done it in a few minutes.

  • how to clone this layer

  • jestes POLAKIEM

  • You're right - any particular reason why you play captain obvious;)?

  • i got tottaly lost, my gimp does not open up to the same window for the mask selection as yours.

  • you are awsome

  • thanks this is awesome

  • Comment removed

  • yea, i got completely lost too.

  • You have selected a very nice foto for this, try doing this with a red-haired girl against a red brick wall ;)

  • Haha this is great. And your accent is sweeet.

  • haha i love that

    thx alot

  • I could do it! thanx:)

  • That's a really interesting technique. Thanks for this tut. I learned something that I needed to know.
