ok...any one at our fire station can have lights and a siren, why is it different with other fire stations, but theres only a few that can take their pov to the scene. the rest have to go to the station.
I am medical chief of the guatemalan volunteer fire dept. We also have POV with lights and sirene. We run to the scene instead of the station. Traffic here sucks so every minute counts. I think a firefighter knows how to run hot, dont understand whats difficult to understand. You have erned your privilegie of runing to a scene.
ok to all the people talking about running hot to the scene. how bout all us firefighters slow down take turns slower and then when the persons house if fully involved and burns to the grund we dont want to hear about it saying "oh well why did yall get here faster"? well to tell you the truth sir or mam their are people out there that dont want us to make sure your house and belongings are ok. yes i do agree on slowing down through a green light but if its clear just go through it.
Very nice video and nice driving! I really like the way you make sure you stop at red lights and make sure the way is clear before going through. Too many people just roll right through. Stay safe! First one in, last one out!
I'm not trying to sound like BIVFD...i'm just curious....what is the point of running hot to the station? can't you just drive on in your POV to the scene? i'm not a FF (im a nurse) so i don't know the ins & outs. to me, it would just seem more quicker. you have some great videos tho..so keep'em coming
the videos i watched so far.. my only question is it really appears as if you are responding to nothing. i don't see any fire accidents anything. maybe im not watching the right videos. idk
People need to understand that every state, even cities have different rules for what a Fire Fighter is allowed to have. I do not see what is such a big deal about POV's having lights and sirens.
I live in CO and my department's POV policy is that med team people respond direct to scene if there are injuries (each med team person carries a jump kit), IC's go direct always, and for non-med related calls, med people respond to station. So our people have lights and sirens on their POV's but the only ones that respond direct are medical and IC
In some states POVs with lights and sirens are considered emergency vehicles and cars are required to treat them just like a firetruck or ambulance, or police
That is absolutely crazy that POV's are allowed to have sirens .... I hate that you are even allowed to have flashing lights in them... and before you say anything I am a Fire Chief ....... What are you going to do when you get there in a POV .. I know say yes Chief its confirmed there is a Fire I cant do anything cause I have to wait on the Fire Truck.
@bivfd219 - The way it works for us is "You respond code 3 (lights sirens) to the station first. If our engine/ladder/rescue has already left then you may respond direct. Noone can respond direct untill all vehicles have left the station."
We have people that respond to the station to get the trucks. And the rest respond direct if one person cant go to the station then some one else will it works out well for my dept.
so if thats your arguement "chief" y do we have fire officer's responding to scene's? chiefs battalions etc.... yea they run command but whats the difference?
@bivfd219 your a fire chief and our asking this question??? are you serious. who the hell cares how qualified licensed certified people get there. sometimes its right for people to arrive in POV it all depends on location and operations. being a fire chief im surprised you don't know that. hmmm
@bivfd219 so than chief why do you go there to call the rig and say its on fire i keep my gear at my house or in my truck and my chief and my dad does to so in your argument why is the chief the one doin 100 to get there without the rig and fyi i have lights and sirens in my pov
@bivfd219 In our county it is a pain with all the povs that end up at the scene. However, we do have a lot of plumbers, electricians, etc that are on our dept and are alot closer to the fire then the fire house. They can get there and have their gear on and have the fire sized up by the time the first engine gets there. POV response depends alot on how your dept is run and SOPs.
@bivfd219 I know i'm a bit late on the discussion.... but you have to think "Chief" that this is a volunteer fire department, not a full time paid fire department... there for they dont have 8 men sitting at the station ready to hop into the truck and roll, the firefighters have to leave from work or the store or what ever respond to the station and then respond to the call.... if you had to wait in traffic you would never make it to the station, and response time would be even longer...
@bivfd219 being a chief you sound like youre jealous he can have lights and siren on his POV and you cant. and you can do something before a truck gets there. one day while listening to the scanner at home i heard a fire call dispatched 2 station cars(pickups for running errands) were checking hydrants in the area and responded. one called in a working fire andsaid he was attacking with a garden hose. go ahead and laugh i did. BUT the wet stuff got on the red stuff. isnt that the idea!
@bivfd219 Thumbs down. Depends on what state you're in. I'm in Iowa and my POV has an Authorized Emergency Vehicle certificate, but I'm not fire or EMS.
HAHA you missed the engine what a bummer! Did you respond POV to scene?? I once had a Med asst. call 2 in the morning got all the way there only to find rescue driving away! I had to drive Priority 2 and get my med gloves on only to turn around and go home that sucked.
I live in southwestern ohio, it takes me about 5 to 7 minutes to get to the station but it usually only takes 3 to 5 for everyone else i live pretty far from the station, yes everyone in ohio is aloud to have siren's.
@souderico...no FF, except senior officers should have sirens...bottom line, sorry in our dept, and surrounding ones thats how its been for years and it works just fine....blue lights yes, by law with a 360* light on the roof, no dash lights.....there have been way to many wrecks in the past years that you read all over the country cause someone is rushing to the scene with their POV.....they shouldnt be allowed unless authorized by an officer...go to station, then you know whos coming.
What is the model of the Whelen siren you run?

In michigan they are considered the same as police, fire, and ems. You CAN get a ticket for not moving over for a POV.
