Jesse Loved Jenny, he respected Gregg and he felt like Jenny's protector. He was never interested in a romantic relationship...according to the script...LOL!
That first flashback scene's episode ended with Opal(Dorothy Lyman) finding Jessie sleeping on her couch, and hitting the roof. She was very intolerant. That was the first time, I watched this soap, and been occasionally watching it, ever since.
BTW - whether it be race related or not, I am very glad that AMC showed a man and woman who's friendship was STRICTLY platonic, nothing more. IT DOES HAPPEN!
They were kept platonic because of the race factor. Lets get real. People can praise them for being "unique" and all because they were friends. And that's true. But if Jesse was white he and Jenny would have been a real couple. Its a soap opera rule. The one you run off with (or on the run with) is the one that becomes your true love.
@TRAVISJAMES03 That puts an interesting spin on things! What if it was intentional? Watching this clip, I kind of wish thtey got together. They have great chemistry.
@Hibbs4Prez I totally agree with you. I didn't watch AMC then (I wasn't even born) but I've always wondered if Greg and and Angie ever felt a bit threatened by the friendship. A beauiful white girl and a sexy black guy.
@waterlilyqueen I used to watch the show back then and yes Angie had a big time problem with Jenny and Jessie. She was very jealous. Once, she knew that Jessie was liking her, she developed a close friendship with Jenny. They became best girlfriends.
So weird recalling Jesse like this and seeing him this macho cop now. I haven't watched AMC since the early 80's so not sure all that happened with his character but it's nice to seen a recent episode and see how him and Angie are still going strong.
I forgot what really good friends Jesse and Jenny were .. they were misfits in pine valley
and they learned to depend on each other - Friendships also make for powerful/wonderful stories that the soaps today don't always showcase - I miss the golden age of AMC
Sooo agree with you! J/J were one of the BEST platonic friendships ever on a soap! KD/DW has some amazing and natural chemistry and I remember being hooked on their "summer on the run" s/l like I was Luke/Laura's. I rushed home EVERY damned day to see J/J. Such great memories and I miss this golden age of soaps..
awww, love it.

The late Rebecca looked like an older version of Jenny when Jesse returned to the show!

To this day, their "Summer on the Run" ranks second only to Luke and Laura's, and is considered one of AMC's best storylines.
Truly one of the best PLATONIC supercouples ever--and one of the greatest romances that never was.

AMC actually beat the uber popular GH in the ratings and became #1 for 10 weeks during the summer of 1982 with this storyline with J&J on the run.
