A good way to waterproof these types of shelters is to put 6+ inches of debris on top, cover that with the soil you dug out, then pile more debris for camo, extra waterproof, and erosion cover. (Would work best with a slight slant on the "roof")
- Also, what is the song playing? Its pretty cool.
I am curious though. How does it handle in the rain? Does the roof keep the rain out and how about the drainage problem. Do you have water coming down the front entrance or seep through the walls? I would be really interested in hearing the answers to these questions. If positive I would definitely build one of these myself then. These are my only reservations though.
@adamwunsch there is always a bit of drip of the roof..ive dug ditches around the hole to channel water...remember its under ground so its damp, but im lucky in the fact that im on chalky soil which drains water quickly..basically raise yourself of the damp ground..
...so is the purpose of this fox hole to hide? or just a means of semi hidden/warmer shelter? I'm wondering because once you're inside it, it's seems hard to cover the debris back over the board if you're not wanting to be seen/found.
great fox hole, it would make a really good shooting hide... take a .22 and nail a few ramblers, stuff their heads and put them on shields inside the hide... give it a baroque feel...
lol grimbo when u went in there and closed the door i thought to myself "what a laugh it'd be of some random guy walked by and said to himslf "o awesome a camera" grabbed it and walked away"
How about some camo net on the back of the door so when you close it up with you inside you are not left with a plain expanse of square wood showing? or some "U" nails in it to stick fresh branches and vegatation!
all 4 parts are great cant wait till the decorators have finished ....what if you made some holes along the edge of the board then tied some loops to the top ridge of the entrance then maybe the board would lift up and over and lay on top ....great series of videos thank you ...wez
Awesome shelter. With a shelter that well concealed you can now spend time making it more permanant, kowing that little scroats wont come along and destroy it.
Thats why i don't like to build or leave anything out of my own property. You don;t know who is roaming around looking for something to burn/vandalise.
It's almost like if you leave something that you have made out in the woods, you are making yourself a victim by giving them the opportunity to ruin it for you.
I guess the challenge is to make it invisible like this.
hey grimbo, do you have any thought of how to control the debris so that you could better your concealment? possibly using some pine pitch on entrance covering and covering with debris or even making a woven thatch of sticks to control debris in case of a emergency concealment situation?
Good stuff Grimbo.
