This was one of the earliest depictions of child abuse I had ever seen. As an abuse survivor, I am so glad to see this is available on YouTube for others to see and learn from.
here's a intresting FYI about Chip Lucia (Bill Harper) 5 yrs after this movie he was on the soon to be cancelled soap opera "One Life to Live as the third actor to play Tony Harris Lord the first of many children that Victor Lord would have that we didn't know about
Tricia O'Neill rocks in this! Love how she took charge of that situation and called protective services for that baby....things are different in our world now, but there is still far too much child abuse going on!
@SUNMAYDEN518 the problem with the smokes, was that when the Dr was examing Mary Jane she spotted 3 healed over burns on the child's buttocks, btw, I relize that was 1977 but nurse Ramos should have known what those marks were
This television movie was aired on CBS primetime Wednesday, October 5, 1977 (reran on Saturday, August 26, 1978, thirty minutes after the last telecast of CBS primetime's "The Bob Newhart Show").
@ManTexDal I vaguely remember that scene and I think it was on towards the beginning of the film. Could be wrong as I haven't seen it in more than 15-20 years.
@MBlackford409 If there was a park scene in the original then it must have been TBS cutting the film for time. I personally don't remember which one you are referring to but then again it has been 34 years since I saw the premiere.
@SeeUatThePreviews I think it was where Rowena Had Mary Jane in the park and was swinging her in the swing and Some woman said something about parents should have a licence to raise a child after a father was seen being abusive to his kid.
@MBlackford, , Yes there was a scene in a park Rowena was pushing Mary Jane and talking to another young mother pretending that everything was alright in her world, then a father gets angry when his son spills ice cream or something aline those lines anyway The mother comments that SOME parents should have a license, Rowena took it that she was on to her grabbed Mary Jane and left the park
WAHOOOO!! FINALLY someone's posted this!! Talk about a hard movie to track down....I've been searching for a copy for about 8 years with no luck, so thank you thank you thank YOU!!!
@SeeUatThePreviews No kidding! I don't think I've seen it on the tele for about 15 years, maybe even longer. Too bad cos it was one of the most memorable made for tv films out there and one of the first that centered around the subject of child abuse.
Wow. . . I saw this when it first aired. The scene that always stayed with me was when she takes her daughter's hand for the final time. . . scary stuff. Thanks for posting!
@Bijoushow Having viewed this entirely, I must revise my earlier comments. Time plays tricks on the memory, so the scene I described wasn't in the film. Nonetheless, great, haunting movie I've never forgotten.
@Bijoushow No problem. It's odd but the very same scene stayed in my mind since watching it for the very first time in '77. I'm wondering if this film had different prints in syndication with scenes added or removed from the CBS version. Too long ago to know.
Thanks for uploading. I haven't seen this movie in ages, and I've been looking for it to view.

If she's almost 4 why is she still sleeping in a crib?
Zombie00Goddess 1 week ago
@Zombie00Goddess I Belive the reason Rowena gave was that Mary Jane was a bed wetter

This movie makes me cry. Why do I do this to myself......
sarkissamuel 2 weeks ago
and no one (including the Dr) thought to ask why Mary Jane was so muddy if she "fell out of a crib" as she claims

Does anyone know was there REALLY a recording of Wigley Bear at that time the record the Rowena played for MaryJane ?
