"Genie" derives from "Jinn" and I guess you could say they are the same but "Genie" has become more associated with like fairytale-esque stuff while "Jinn" is from religious, specifically Islamic, texts. "Genie" derives from "Jinn" and I guess you could say they are the same but "Genie" has become more associated with like fairytale-esque stuff while "Jinn" is from religious, specifically Islamic, texts. From what I've read on them, they seem to be more like the fallen angels, interacting more with humanity than divine beings, not necessarily evil, but more or less doing their own thing. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Jinns are only talked about in the Holy Quran. In the Quran it does't speak of them as monsters or scary things that are bent on killing humans. It actually portrays them in a unique way that humans can't and won't understand. Jinns are creations fo God that exist with man kind, but we can not see them or even feel their presence.
