Grinters are definetly worth the investment. I play the new version. I have tried Kevins older version. Not as loud as the newer version that Mcgoldrick plays. But kevin naturally plays with more power than Mcgoldrick so you wouldnt really notice. I like the way kevin keeps his playing (when not with lunasa) old school. Perhaps not a very apt question but just interested in what people think......Mcgoldrick or Crawford ?????
I'd definitely choose Kevin over Mike - but Matt Molloy is and will always be the number one master. My other favourites include Tom Doorley and Alan Doherty and Seamus Egan (if you can just get him to put that banjo down long enough to play some flute!). But Molloy and Crawford are numbers 1 and 2. I've got a Grinter D (8 keys) and I asked him a few years ago about making me a Bb. Wish I had gone through with it - his prices have tripled since then.
