Glad to find you had reviewed this beer Greg. A 12 pack of samplers from Great Lakes brewing was what my Mom had brought for Christmas! She was excited she found something I'd never had, haha. Good beer though, hard to get around good old SWVA. Good review!
Hi Greg, You should review more of the Great Lakes beers. I am sure you won't be disappointed. Two of their seasonal beers, "Nosferatu" and "Blackout Stout" are currently on the shelves and are two of my all time favorite beers. Would be cool if you get either of those and get a chance to review them (I am assuming Great Lakes beers are easily available to you). I would also recommend the "Burning River" , "Commodore Perry" and "Erie Monster"....... Cheers!!!
Greg, you're review of this on was spot on. When I reviewed it the first thing I noticed was it was a little thin and not opac like most Porters. The nose was chocolate with rosted notes but no coffee. Once it warmed up the coffee jumped from the glass and a smokey note seemed to settle in. On the taste the chocolate wasn't there but malty coffee was. Over all I enjoyed it. I also thought it was a little agressive with the carbonation. Not like pop but fizzy. A nice change from most Porters.
I'm spoiled, as I grew up in Northeast Ohio and my family is still there, so this is pretty readily available. Among my favorite beers, and my favorite porter so far. When Thanksgiving rolls around, do whatever you can to get your hands on some Great Lakes Christmas Ale. Hell, I'll send some to you if you'd like. It's marvelous.
HAHAHAHA!!!!! I love the little peek before you opened up the fridge all the way. This is one of my favorite porters. Have you ever had Thristy Dog's Old Leg Humper? It's an awesome porter as well. Great review as always.
I think you are running out of room in your fridge...and since I'm such a giving person, I would be glad to help you drink some of that so you'll have room to get some more....just lookin out for ya!
