  • Ah ... at first I thought the wine-coloured reed was ribbon ;-)

I just found your channel (and blog) and have been thoroughly enjoying learning - without actually doing (yet) ... but I have checked out BasketWeavingSupplies web site.

Question: When you dye the reed, do you leave it in only the same amount of time as the usual soaking (about 5 min.) or for longer if needed for colouring?

Thanks very much for your anticipated answer ... but most particularly for sharing all of your knowledge!!!

  • Yes dyed reed will bleed onto natural reed. I soak my reed well at the start of weaving. When I add color, I'm sure to run it through my towel to get excess color off the reed. Then, if I need to rewet the reed, I either spray it with a spray bottle or I'm very careful as to what I soak. I don't soak the colored reed once it has been woven into the basket. This will keep bleeding to a minimum.

  • Hi Nancy...If you soak your basket does the dyed reed bleed onto the other?
