Very safe and reliable aircraft....also just great to see....
But the the engines and fuel capacity...that were the main reasons this aircraft was not as succesful as it could have been..
When you change the il-86 engines for 4 A340-300 engines it will give this plane 200% more operational options..
Significantly greater range, clearly faster gradeability, so, also operational to airports with a fairly short runway, and another important thing: Not bothered by any aircraft noise law anymore!!
this plane is so quiet, very nice! too bad that ural airlines replaced it with western aircrafts :( i love b767 and b777 but the il96 has a special place in my hear :D haha
the take off of a Tu154 sounds alot harder and noisier then this one lol :-D yeah, sadly just history but the more sad thin gis that these days all you see is boeings and airbuses, i dont like to go plane spotting its all the same.
@stasisnu18 Quiet? You must be deaf or something? During the time i lived in Lara / Antalya which is a district on the approach path of the airport i used to look for a fighter in the sky any time an IL 86 takes off. This aircraft can be anything but quiet!
Not too much sound o/b this wideboddied Russian airliner. Compared to other Russian airliners this is very impressive. I once heared one of these Il's take-off at LHR and was impressed by the enormous sound of the engines at full rpm..
love this plane...it's the size of a B767....and it has an excellent safety record...not many were built...but it is a safe airplane and it is beautiful...I am a pilot and I would have loved to fly this one for my whole life!

It was Il-86 RA-86078, built in 1985, flew in Ural Airlines until Oct 2009

I agree, maybe the best Soviet jetliner, the biggest problem of this acrft were the engines NK-86, low-thrust and kerosene-hungry :))
