Long story short: Miku is a forest-siren who lured Kaito to his death.

Personally, I thought the purple forest was where people who's times were up were supposed to go. They meet a sweet little girl who guides them and they fall into their final sleep before being guided to heaven. They see a bright light, and then the paradise is their eternal heaven. There are two different messages, one warning that there is no escape from death, another saying that it is a wonderful thing to die and stay with the little girl and in the paradise for eternity.

However, I believe she really loved Kaito too because at the end his scarf was in her lap like she was holding on to it.
