Wow I didnt know she could sing like this! don't let the humor fool you, this is a very, very challenging piece (long notes, high notes, fast notes, low notes...). BRAVISSIMA!!!
Wish there was a video for this. When did she do "Candide?" She was such a gifted performer. I loved her in almost everything I saw her do in the movies. Thanks for posting this wonderful song. One of my earliest memories was seeing Madeline was in a short film called, "Da Duve." SHe was hilarious speaking in pigeon Swedish. Anyone know where I can find a copy of that film?
B-R-A-V-A! I saw the incomparable Ms. Kahn live in "The Sisters Rosenzweig". It was non-musical, but Madeline was so freaking funny, there were way too many times the play was held up due to the audience not being able to stop their scream laughing.
Too bad we don't have video of this performance. I'll bet her "schtick" was wonderful. Vocally--she threw away all the high "E's," so isn't quite the stature of a Barbara Cook. Still, to hear such a credible performance out of a woman who was known primarily for her comedic genius just raises my respect for her. Kahn's talent was well-rounded in a way few are. What a shame she is gone.
Considering Madeline Kahn is one of the funniest actresses of all time, and her work in the dramatic arts stand alone, I have to say this is downright INCREDIBLE, and if she had pursued a career on the opera stage, we might have had something astounding,
Did you know Forrest Whitaker is a trained tenor? Another example of an incredible multi-talent.
Some enunciation problems when she sings the high notes, but that's the be expected. She was perfectly suited to this. Like everyone else, I would have loved to SEE her sing it, but let's be grateful for what we have!
I remember hearing that she was a singer, but I had no idea she was this great! Her performance is much better than the top rated versions on this song I found on YouTube before I found this.
@jsgehrke She wouldn't exactly be beautiful at 70 anymore, so perhaps that's why. Sorry. Couldn't resist. In truth, Kahn was an amazing goddess of vivacious sexuality and a hilarious wit and comedienne. I think she was a rare jewel compared to Sarah Silverman or some of the female comics of today, who act like men. I miss Ms Kahn.
Thank you :D :D do you have her singing any other songs from this production? I would love to hear the whole production, i dont know if you are into trading but i'd love to hear back :D
Oh Man!! I'd have given my left nut to see her do this on stage! *hugesigh*

Just AMAZING. God created a triple threat when he created Madeline and then took her away before she could finish her last act. This is a jewel.
