He promotes "Race to the Top" but as seen in the new documentary, "Race to Nowhere," longer school days, harder tests, and "teaching to the test" is not doing anything for American children except stressing them beyond what they can handle and burning them out once they reach college age.

There is a false premise however, using statistics to prove there is something wrong with our education system. The whole world is coming here to learn, then they let them stay and take our white collar jobs. So, what's wrong with this picture. You came here to learn, then, got a job based on the fact that we are too stupid in this country to do this job? WHAT!? WE INVENTED IT! How about getting rid of No Child Left Behind, giving more trust to teachers who had to go through 4-6 years of University & Credentials, Stop investing in prisons giving inmates free healthcare, dental, food, jobs, and a nice place to sleep, and start investing in schools, after school programs, students that what a better future and help those students that live in terrible environments. Dropping out of high school is a choice. As a hispanic who graduated with a 3.6 GPA from HS, and went through community college to reach Azusa Pacific University and work hard to pay tuition, I can assure you teacher have little to do with that drop out rate. This is coming from someone who grew up in South Central L.A. in the 90s. My oldest sister is a SDC teacher and my brother after her is a Cal-State University of San Marcos counselor and they are from the 80s. So everything is a choice!

what is really at issue here is curriculum as thing vs. curriculum as encounter. We must reform the ways in which we pereceive curriculum and understand it as lived experienced rather than something that is inflicted upon students.
We need less school time in public schools in the United States. We also need the time we do spend in school to be less unnecessary nonsense such as 50 similar math problems for homework. Public schools should give more choices and not require a person to dedicate their lives to school to do well. If you want oppressive schools, go to a private school or Japan. You can not force people to build space ships, ony the people that want to will do so.

A federal government needs to happen. Across the country, children are held up to different standards and subjected to different tests and studies. If a child moves from one education system, they are missing standardized test scores, underprepared, or over prepared to meet the demands of their new school. I think a federal education system, ideally, would be the way to go.

The Recovery and Investment Act allocates billions of dollars to education proograms. The problem with No Child Left behind is that it didn't have funding.

The best of Schools are no good unless and until Education is valued, supported and reinforced in the homes (as it was in my generation). Great speech, but he needs to realize how true education and schooling are different. He promotes "Race to the Top" but as seen in the new documentary, "Race to Nowhere," longer school days, harder tests, and "teaching to the test" is not doing anything for American children except stressing them beyond what they can handle and burning them out once they reach college age.

There is a false premise however, using statistics to prove there is something wrong with our education system. The whole world is coming here to learn, then they let them stay and take our white collar jobs. So, what's wrong with this picture. You came here to learn, then, got a job based on the fact that we are too stupid in this country to do this job? WHAT!? WE INVENTED IT! How about getting rid of No Child Left Behind, giving more trust to teachers who had to go through 4-6 years of University & Credentials, Stop investing in prisons giving inmates free healthcare, dental, food, jobs, and a nice place to sleep, and start investing in schools, after school programs, students that what a better future and help those students that live in terrible environments. Again the nationalization of schools through no child left behind was terrible!

Dropping out of high school is a choice. As a hispanic who graduated with a 3.6 GPA from HS, and went through community college to reach Azusa Pacific University and work hard to pay tuition, I can assure you teacher have little to do with that drop out rate. This is coming from someone who grew up in South Central L.A. in the 90s. My oldest sister is a SDC teacher and my brother after her is a Cal-State University of San Marcos counselor and they are from the 80s. So everything is a choice!

you know how they're going to stipulate which teachers will recieve better pay if this proposal comes to fruition? It will be based on standardized tests and the teachers who have students that can memorize content knowledge the best will recieve the money.
what is really at issue here is curriculum as thing vs. curriculum as encounter. We must reform the ways in which we pereceive curriculum and understand it as lived experienced rather than something that is inflicted upon students.

We need less school time in public schools in the United States. We also need the time we do spend in school to be less unnecessary nonsense such as 50 similar math problems for homework. Public schools should give more choices and not require a person to dedicate their lives to school to do well. If you want oppressive schools, go to a private school or Japan. You can not force people to build space ships, ony the people that want to will do so.

Education should be free. Traditional schools are wasting time and tax dollars forcing everyone down the same linear funnel of learning. People vary drastically in terms of their inclinations and potential. Develop specialised talent rather than expect everyone to succeed at the same generalised curriculum. As it stands, we have many frustrated kids, forced to learn something they'll never develop further after high school--when they could be great athletes, dancers, electricians, etc.

Its a well known fact that Republicans do not place education on a high scale. If you need proof look at the value of education when compared to republican states and then Democratic states.
Teacher salaries are double in democratic states, and there education is much more competitive and more rigorous. When compared to the south that has dumbed down test that effectivly makes a classroom of morons and "all achievers".

A federal government needs to happen. Across the country, children are held up to different standards and subjected to different tests and studies. If a child moves from one education system, they are missing standardized test scores, underprepared, or over prepared to meet the demands of their new school. I think a federal education system, ideally, would be the way to go.

his grandma was aVPof a local bank in a small town, its a huge difference. Only after first starting out in the teller position. Durign that time her pay was substantially less then her male counterparts and if you look at Obama's childhood they lived in modest accomodation his entire childhood. Getting into the local private school Punahou School was basically entirely on the potential of barack obama. they paid for it yes, but it cost them dearly. Comarped to bush he was a peasant.

The best of Schools are no good unless and until Education is valued, supported and reinforced in the homes (as it was in my generation). If your children are to have a fighting chance in a competitive job market when they are adults, Education is paramount during childhood development since children learn so quickly.

Working in Personnel, I gladly accept in hand both resumé and application. It is however a 60 second conversation that determines whether I even bother to read either. Communication skills coupled with appearance (visible tattoos, piercings, grooming) and mannerism are in the forefront.
Beyond that I look at grammar, spelling, handwriting and composition. Have you read the comments on YT? I assure you the mentality has become the rule rather than the exception. And they want a job? Next!
