  • It will never be this good again!

  • gotta love it when the old man holds off the kid, just goes to show that the old man still has it after 25 or so years and that the kid is learning and maturing as a driver.too bad davey got killed in a helicopter of all things 4 years later.he was on his way to becoming NASCARS next bright star.davey you will truly be missed.and good job bobby, you drove a hell of a race.

  • A race Jimmie Johnson can't win! FINALLY!!!!!!

  • @RyDogRidesTheBus he won it in 2006 lol little late

  • Nascar Fan, and remembering the Alabama Gang, R.I.P Davey Allison

  • RIP davey

  • @dodd702 Had Davey never died, I believe he would've been a champion; multiple times. R.I.P. to a great driver.

  • @nascarfanatic2425

I so agree... He was my favorite....R.I.P

  • the late 80's and the 90's decade was when Nascar was in it's prime. I remeber the exact spot and time when my dad told me Davey passed away, I was only 7, but he was my favorite driver.

  • nice way to end a magnificant career................too early though

  • Just think in 1988 car 12 won the Daytona 500. In 89 car 17 won the race. Now, flashfoward to 2008, car 12 wins. In 2009 car 17 wins. Weird, but cool.

  • That was Bobby's last win unfortunately

  • I feel lucky to be old enough to remember the late 80's early 90's. I was at the Pocono race when Jacko ended his career a few months later.

  • Bristol should relinquisish its slogan and it should be applied only to this video. "Racin' the way it oughta be" I was 3 years old when this race was run. It's a shame I can't remember it. I truely believe 88 was the tail end of true racing. I love NASCAR today but what they do now just isn't the same anymore. I love those classic reruns

  • A father and son 1-2 one of the great races at Daytona

  • here's a race that Kyle Busch can't win!!!

  • loved that thx 4 the post

  • I was born almost 3 years after this race in January 1991. I got to see a lot of the late 90's ESPN NASCAR but I missed out when both the production cars and NASCAR cars both used carburetors lmao (I believe 87 or 88 was the last year street cars used full-fledged carburation lol)

  • one of my favorite moments in Nascar!

  • LOVE THE ENGINE SOUND !

  • hell yeah man!!! the cars today dont sound like that!

  • RebelRacing and Leehr.

You two make me feel old.

I watched this live. Great race!

  • I was born in '88. I wish I could've seen some of the great racing from the 80's.

  • That turn 1 camera is in my opinion a CBS landmark. My favorite angle they ever used. That and the one right along the wall coming out of turn four.

  • oh yeah that and the angle they used usually at the finish of the race....aka like 98 99....you probably know what I mean. I wish CBS still did NASCAR nobody was better than Ken Squier

  • aw man that camera drive by.....WHOOM WHOOM WHOOM WHOOM!!! classic.

  • i wish they had nascar classics still

  • Yeah, now we get crappy reality shows and whatever LUCAS OIL pays SPEED to put on. Honestly, do we have to get Monster Trucks everyday?

  • Tuesdays at noon was awesome because of that, especially when they used to do like Daytona 500s every day before the Daytona 500 of that year.

I wish they would show the Texas race from 1997.

  • Agreed. I started watching that in 2001 & the last ones I ever saw were the 2000 Daytona 500 & Pepsi 400 back in '02. It pisses me off that they no longer have it. Also, I wish they still had "Inside Winston Cup". If not for Dave Despain, it would still be on today with the show title with the Sprint Cup name, Allen Bestwick as host & the panelists still being Michael Waltrip, Johnny Benson & Ken Schrader. SPEED should be ashamed of themselves for what they turned themselves into.

  • Such a shame, no more Alabama drivers in NASCAR.

  • i requested this its great

  • The Alabama Gang Rules!!!

  • My mom's favorite 500 finish.

  • My favorite finish too. I was born 9 months after this race.

  • I miss the good old days.

  • Allison family is full of talent and its sad tohat we lost Davey.

  • Ahh The Alabama Gang's greatest moment, one of the best finishes in NASCAR history. So Sad that Bobby was terribly injured at Pocono and cant remember this day, bout time someone posted this

  • True, that crash at Pocono was nasty and following that race, didn't Jody Ridley fill in for Bobby Allison for a few races with the Stavola Bros. or was it Dick Trickle?

  • I think Trickle finished out the season.

  • @cfoster81

Mike Alexander (who was the BGN -- now Nationwide Series -- point leader) took over Bobby's car for the rest of the year after Pocono. Dick Trickle took over in 1989 after Alexander had a bad wreck in a race during the Cup offseason. I think Alexander ran at Daytona in '89, then Trickle took over from Rockingham on, and the car was re-numbered "84".

  • @BSNFabricating Bobby still doesn't remember winning this race after his accident t Pocono.

  • So many great drivers in NASCAR were part of the Alabama Gang.

  • pretty cool, i thought Davey hada him for a second...

  • ive always wanted to see this..thanks!
