  • Lol u forgot the characters

  • Hey! :D This video was uploaded on my birthday :) :) :D

  • U don't have to have a webcam

  • what type of wed cam is that

  • The only lamp I can use right now seems to get really hot somewhere around 1:00

  • GAY

  • Thanks so much!!

I have started making lego videos only have 1 but you know it is fun thx for the help!

  • i dont use a webcam or video cam

  • wat was the clay for

  • can i use a regular camera

  • @Anonymousniper12 yeah... i use a regular camera. allot of people do.

  • @benny1332 that took too long i know now... watch my videos

  • @Anonymousniper12 only if you watch mine... lol.

  • @benny1332 ok

  • what editing software do you use?

  • Trust me when I say DON'T USE A WEBCAM they suck. Use a DSLR, Interchangeable lens camera, Camcorder that takes stills, or a digital point and shoot. Really if it can go into your computer, take pics, go on a TRIPOD, and its not a webcam it's good.

  • @livielu98 webcams dont suck there axcually prtty good if u get a good one like the quickcam pro 9000

  • @TheLimitFilms I had the quickcam pro 9000 and it sucked because it is auto-focus, a manual focus camera is better so it doesn't change focuses between frames

  • @livielu98 you know u can switch it to manual focus

  • @livielu98 it is not JUST about the camera, it's about how hard you work on a film, a webcam will do alright.

  • that lego couch at 1:26 is awesome

  • you do not need to connect to computer while animating

  • I use Final Cut Pro 8 and iStopmotion when I'm on my iMac and when I'm

On my windows I use Stopmotionpro 7 and Sony Vegas 8,9,10 and Adobe after effects CS4 and Photoshop too.

  • where do you get sticky tack??????

  • I use istopmotion

  • If you sticky tape the paper on the lamp will it cause fire?

  • @ThePoptropicaVideos No. I'v tried it myself. And it worked. But I see where you'r heading

  • I have to have my computer nearby??? with me i just take the pictures from the camera (not webcam, like I can see you have) and upload them to my computer and use windows movie maker to line up the files and add sound and titles and effects or whatever then I publish it to my computer and upload to YouTube! So you don't NEED your computer right by you to animate, or at least if you have windows movie maker.

  • @Chipanimation If you use WMM then I believe you're limited to 1FPS which can be terrible for Stop Motion. Not to mention every time you click the capture button you're likely to bump it and mess up the shot. I prefer webcam because you can use software so no physical contact is required. I used to import my stuff when I was using a video camera. I'd click the record button and click it again quickly. Funny thing it actually managed to get me 24 FPS. Goodluck in your animations!

  • @projectzerohour No no no no. You can control the frame rate and trim clips by clicking options. And I don't animate while I'm taking the pictures, I just drag them from my memory card. And I build with bricks around my camera to keep it still. If you watch any of my videos-- except the one my brother made --you can see that I have a higher frame rate than 1 FPS.

  • whats the blue tack for then?

  • @TopShowsHere Holding down the camera or use tape to hold it down

  • Great videos, very helpful, what do you think the best program for stop motion animation is?

  • @MrTomstatube I'm not sure what any body else uses but I use windows movie maker.

  • @Chipanimation me too

  • Do you know if the canon A85's software will work on a mac?

  • does the camera need to be pluged in the computer?

  • does the camera need to be pluged in?

  • kiss my ass MyOldAss

  • hey dude can u make a tut. on how to make the green couch u have? thx plz comment back

  • But shorly the lamp get Hot and then burns the paper?

  • my camera takes bright pictures and i have tried everything to fix it, white balance, flash is never on and brightness is not to bright, do you think i should judt use one lamp

  • do you have to use a web cam or can you use a normal camra

  • i have a logitech webcam c120, will that work?

  • i never knew about the "paper around the lamp light" thanks!

  • What camera do you use with most of your work?

  • What kind of camera did you use?

  • FREE SUBS! MORE INFO AT MY CHANNEL!

  • @MyOldAss kiss my metal ass hahahahaha really kiss it orelse ill track you down and killyou im serious

  • My friend put tape on his lamp and his lamp sparked. What else can you do?

  • Why two lamps?

  • The vid is awesome, but it didn't show any uses for the sticky tack.

  • This is important he must be profecional!!!!!!

  • What lamps do you use? I need some basic desk lamps that are nice and sturdy.

  • i love your set!

    :)

  • Did you do the song on garage band

  • What webcam do u use?

  • w000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000t

  • your cool

  • your

    videos

    rock!

  • Love the garage band music :)

  • thanks a ton Nathan

  • i agree with Fizzal

  • I agree and also the tape will lose its stick and the paper will fall of but it depends on the heat of your lamp

  • Isn't putting paper around a lamp a fire hazard? Why can't we just do what ForrestFire101 does, just use 2 plain lamps?

  • im trieing to add voice to my stopmotions but i use monkeyjam and it only lets me import one audio sequence and its way to hard to postition each voice and sound effect into the minifigure and when i edit it with Windows Movie Maker Youtube Wont Let Me Upload It. Can Someone Help me out plz

  • u can use audicity but it isnt the best program you can record sound with it

  • you can use windows movie maker I do all you need to do after you finish the video if you have windows vista pubish to your computer and uploaded same with windows xp

  • @stalag16 well what you want to do is record them on a seperate program and then save them in your music section of your documents, then you import them onto windows movie maker with " import audio files" once your done with that dragit onto the time line where you want it!

  • can u make lego titanic stop motion

  • thx your videos help

  • how do u had voices? to ur legs? if u know plz send me a email on my youtube account iam lerning how to do stopmotion this is my first time

  • puting paper over a lamp is bad it can burn

  • some lamps are ok it just depends on specific things such as the wattage

  • @legoboycarnage Sometimes it can....it depends.

  • @legoboycarnage True

  • @legoboycarnage Only if the paper touches the bulb.

  • awsome vid and helpful

  • thanks!!! this will help my films a lot :D

  • do u need to turn off the room light and only use ur lamp?

  • you realy help me VERY VERY GREAT !!!!

I GIVE YOU 10/5 STARS ^^ good job!

  • would you sugest a webcam or a digital camera?

  • webcams are better for this kinda stuff. trust me.

  • Webcam. For stop motion they are so much easier to use.

  • thanks man this is going to help a lot

  • Comment removed

  • dude, you are amazing

  • you are very good at this. I'm a beginner. so i'm going to keep watching these videos to help me. <=^)

  • NathanWells, is that camera a Quickcam 9000? Because I want to buy that one.

  • no it is the logitech quickcam pro 4000

  • yep. It's retail price is $100, but you can get it for $50 - $80.

  • love this!

  • thanx alot

  • Theres one problem most lamps will set the paper and tape on fire

  • nope it doesnt happen

  • What type of lights are those?

  • Well, i got a liiiitle problem if i should Tape my lamp with paper.

    Its going to burn :(

  • Use the power saver bulb. It radiates less heat.

  • And turn it off.

  • I have an important question not covered by this video . What do we do if we don't have a computer nearby and we use a regular digital camera? Would you recomend this set-up?

  • nathan wells rox

  • vvhere do u get that camera?

  • from a store...

  • O RLY!?

  • YEAH RLY.

  • @RuairiDoherty Google is your friend -.-"

  • what kind of lights are those?

  • What kind of lights do you use?

  • i've seen people use IKEA lamps.like little desk lamps.

  • Hey, Nathan Wells. I have a question: In my crappy lego movies I've made the minifigures walk wierd. I've seen your videos and your figures walk very nice. Is it any effect or you take a bunch of photos to move a leg?

  • heyy um what do u use the sticky tack for?

  • Watch some of his videos and u will see minifigs holding or wearing something u cant do

  • what is the name of the song at the begginging?ps please help!!!!!!!!!!

  • I started to keep my Room clean most of the time it dose help a lot you are the best lego stop motion guy ever!!!

  • Thanks for the information.

  • what kind of webcam do you use

  • can you paint in stuff at monkey jam

  • thx ^^

  • I use the logitech Quickcam pro 4000 too, and I don't how many times sticky tac has come in useful! Good tutorial anyway.

  • Thanks Im Going To Start when i Get my supllys and 5*****(stars)

  • how do u add music, sounds, etc.

  • They are added during post-production, using an editing program like Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, Final Cut, or Adobe Premiere. I use Adobe Premiere Pro CS3.

  • i think i can answer that question, ya i think your light is good and you don't probably need paper

  • i have realy strong light and they get realy hot when there on for a long time soooo i don't think i have to put paper in it because would it catch on fire...what do you think?

  • Try buying some "diffusion gels" at your local hobby store. They are flame resistant, and probably work better than plain paper. I've never had paper catch fire, or even smoke, but I have heard stories of that happening to other animators.

  • can you only make stop motion in a room with no window?

  • i have just recently made a stopmotion (not on the web) and i have 2 windows, in the room i make my stopmotions in, it doesnt affect the lighting, for me.

  • Thank you my little brother is trying to do animation and if you keep making these it will realy help, :)

  • Thank you for the tutorial Norm. Really thought, great job Nathan, and feel free to be a bit more casual in your talking.

  • Is that Webcamera?

  • What, exactly, are you referring to? The round camera is a Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000, and the square camera is a Canon Powershot A85.

  • Well, I think it look like webcamera.

  • What if you don't have enough LEGO?

  • Buy more?

  • In future tutorials, I will give tips on how to build sets with limited LEGO.

Though, if you really want more LEGO (who doesn't?), the only way to get more is to buy it, or ask for LEGO as a gift.

  • Awesome. Now I gotta set up. :P

  • This is great! Thanks. Oh, when will the next video be out?

  • Hopefully I will release a video every two weeks or so.

  • What webcam do you currently use?

  • I do not use a webcam now, I use a Canon Powershot A85. The webcam I used before that was a Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000.

  • Okay. Did you like it? Do you know if the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 is better than the 4000??

  • The image quality on the 9000 is better than the 4000. I don't have a 9000 but many other brickfilmers use it, and are pleased with it's quality.

  • very helpful

  • Wow that was very helpful.

    Thank you Nathan.

I didn't know about the paper covering your lamp.

I will try that, and see what it looks like.

    Thank you for everything.

  • Goldenbrik is going to be the new Goldenbrik! I am his classmate, and he is soon uploading his new vid about Merlin!

  • Thanks for the tip

  • very nice, its amazing how few animators follow these guidelines. I can't wait to see the next part =)

  • Awsome dude!

  • An excellent, MUCH needed video addition to YouTube.

    Thank you!

  • Regarding the lighting, the lamps I have tend to become very hot, which I have learned through many bad experiences(singed hair).Any paper placed near them tends to burn.

Is there any way, apart from buying a new set of lamps, that I can diffuse the light?

  • You can use "diffusion gels," which are made for such a purpose and don't burn.

  • Thanks,dude.

  • Would it not be better to use some thinner material such as tissue paper for covering the lamp? I'm sure some people, like myself, have lamps that already aren't that powerful or don't light up every little detail, so a tissue would let more light through while still keeping it evened out.

  • It all depends on how much light you want to diffuse. My lights are so bright that I need to use paper to diffuse it properly. But tissue paper would work just fine if you wanted to let more light through, or your lights aren't as bright.

  • Okay, I actually tried out using tissues for myself, as opposed to paper...

Couple reasons I wouldn't suggest it as a replacement for the paper.

A: While still dimming the light, it didn't actually diffuse it.

B: after about 10 minutes, the thin tissues had a nice, crispy golden brown marshmallow tint to them (that could simply just be my own lights, but still)

  • I bought a very inexpensive package of white hobby "tissue paper" at Hobby Lobby that is marked "flame resistant", so I'm more confident using it on my lamps for diffusion. One thing I do is hang the paper as loosely as is reasonable from the lamp so there is a good bit of space between the hot light and the paper so things can breathe and the paper can stay as cool as possible.

  • that's interesting...

Well, I would hang paper or tissue from the lamp a little more, but instead of desk lamps, I only have annoying tall-standing lamps (which I have leaning over my set). So, there's nothing to hang off of by the bulb really itself... Hopefully I'll be getting decent lamps soon, though.

  • Great video, I'm so glad you started posting these!

Check out my vids if you have time!

  • amazing, so how do you make the lamp thing, it may be dangerous

  • Hey Nathan! You've been gone so long, I thought you died or something. I'll be sure to watch the video ASAP, but I can't now because it's 10:17 right now.

  • you seem really enthusiastic about it lol. cant wait for the intro vid!

  • What kind of webcam is that? I need to know a good quality webcam that isn't to pricy to animate with, before Christmas. Any ideas?

  • that one was the logitech quickcam pro 4000, you can get some nice deals on them, if you look around, try ebay or amazon.

  • HH6 completely correct. I have nothing to add. :)

  • Nice lamp trick.

  • Ah, thanks, Nathan! That really helped me a lot! :D

  • thanks that really helped

  • Thanks for the vids im so friggn' pumped now }=)

  • I have every thing except the web cam and a mic.

  • Do you know if you can plug cameras like the Canon 30D into a computer for animating?
