  • Dear Jonathon, Yikes, you slayed me! Thank you very much for the edification of many of your brothers and sisters. You're a very fine teacher, and you have a great collection of riffs you've shared with us, Speaking for me, these lessons have given me the impetus to practice blues piano. Thanks for giving this old guy something to do in my retirement. Much love and appreciation for your contribution.

  • Nice! BTW – you can learn to play this song in half the time with new gadget that reads MIDI files.

    Google “Gizmag and PianoMaestro”

  • Fantastic

  • nothing bad meant to expervillage but you are to good to be working for expervillage!

  • THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!!!

  • I HATE these advertisments so much for disturbing my work. I would never ever be influenced by them, other than in a negative way.

I'm sure other viewers feel the same, I cant wait for them to finish. .

  • you talk to much

  • Great video, keep it coming. New music from BRANDON JAROD coming soon!

  • Useless. Way too fast to follow, with no break down. :(

  • @modfin This is the culmination of of maybe 30 thorough videos he's done.

  • @modfin if you had any kind of brain you would have realised that at the beginning of the video he was informing us on how he was putting all the other licks which he has explained in the other 30 videos together into one solo. If you look through the other video's, you will be able to follow it.

  • chupame la pinga

  • @yakywilly tu no entiendes la onda ese,tu no ajuanta

  • How helpful that the text should be projected over the fingers in action.

  • good professional "licks" -- I like 'em....

left hand? Learn the right hand first -- the left will come...! ... much easier than the right.

  • dude it's awesome but way to fast..

  • he;s too good to learn from ! he's just showing off .. that's way too advanced to learn anything from . . . damn i the song was finished before i could even touch 1 key on my keyboard . . . why is he laughing ? !! :)))

  • they should make a video for that last little lick when the track stops

  • amazing...

  • You are fantastic. Thanks for sharing!!

  • Thank you for such generosity... =)

  • Jonathan, I love you! Did you just rock out like that without your shoes on?!!! Looks like your just wearing socks. How freakin cool is this dude?

  • Seriously, I know a lot of these licks are just great for getting started out. Why is it that they never teach you how to make your own licks? You could learn about the first 10 licks and let your musical instincts take over then come up with something unique!

  • @corndogers564 well... it would be kinda strange to "teach" you to do something yoruself, the licks are here to inspire you to get new ideas, then after you master these licks, your fingers are trained enough to move how you want them, so when you hear an idea in your head, you can try it using the techniques you learned and now you're making your own licks!

  • I've learned all this....can you give me the link for other great lessons like that ?

  • Hi Jonathan...

What a great teacher you are !!...& a pretty cool player also BTW..

Nowhere near your league just yet but, I'm luvin working through these lick's & learning a lot !

    appreciate it

  • Listen to Lick 22 1:21 - that's just the best part, it's really awesome i cannot stop watching it!

  • @Thunderbird093 yeah that's my favourite too!!

  • I came up with this collecting some things from videos all arount the internet playing blues /watch?v=AeAZvYiCrYo

  • that was actually the first good expertvillage clip i've seen.

  • Thanks a LOT for ALL your help

  • @DannyboyGospel sarcasm?

  • Where i can find the background blues band?? anybody knows and may help me?? thanks!!

  • @Juancarctica It's added as the final video in this series.

  • Many thanks!

    Your videos are so practical!

And great website aqua-web . com!

You're in the same league as Doug McKenzie ;)

    greatings from Poland ;)

  • lol i watched through all previous 30 clips but not until in this one i realized that you weren't wearing shoes

  • Hey Jonathon thanks for the clips. I've been starting to learn some blues and this has been a great start! When i get famous i'll be sure to credit you ;-).

  • Cool ! I wish you luck :) I hope to see you on TV soon!!

    ( - Jonathon)

  • You are a show off!... I am going back to video one to go and learn this... :)

  • Mike Bloomfield said, "If you like these blues, play em as you please."

  • nicee

  • nice acting haha when you turn back to the camera, Like a super reporter!

  • haha

  • wasn't that sick!

  • OMG Lick 22!

  • this dude is very good on the blues

  • ok i have learned the licks, but what about the left hand? i dont have a whole band at home... please post something where you use the left hand with these licks....

  • Alright what you gotta do is the standard 12 bar blues. in the key of C (this key) c7 ( c-e-g- bflat) for 1 bar f7 (f-a-c- eflat)1 bar c7 ( c-e-g- bflat) for 2 bar f7 (f-a-c- eflat) for 2 bars c7 ( c-e-g- bflat) for 2 bars g7 (g-b-d -f (natural) 1 bar f7 (f-a-c- eflat) 1 bar c7 1 bar g7 1 bar repeat have fun
  • @GreekLink1988 you can just use a metronome or you can search C BLUES BACKING TRACK on youtube..there's one in cmaj which is about at the same speed as this( about 130 bpm).if you wanna know what should the left hand do then: in a boogie woogie, blues band you can do the lclassic patterns or the walking bass if there's no bass player..if you have a bass player you can play the chords as voicings( C = E Bb D , F = A Eb G , G = B F A) watch my video called LUKE C SHUFFLE and listen to my left hand

  • @GreekLink1988

simple left hand blues works fine will all these licks :)

  • Comment removed

  • @GreekLink1988 it's just a simple 12 bar blues. hopefully you can figure that out on your own cus it doesn't get easier than that

  • @GreekLink1988 A simple start would be to just play each of the chords (C major, F major, G major) at the proper time according to a basic 12 bar blues progression (look this up if you are unsure of a 12 bar blues progression, I'm sure there is plenty of information on it out there). If you want to make it sound a little better, do a simple walking bass with one beat per note: C-E-G-A in C, F-A-C-D in F, G-B-D-E in G.

  • musicians shouldn´t be alone :-)...go and find someone to jam with!

    greetings

  • @GreekLink1988 It's a simple 12-bar blues progression...in the left hand, these are the standard voicings:

    C7: E Bb D F7: Eb A D G7: F B E

  • @GreekLink1988 Assuming the key of C, and having each "_____ - _____" signify a 2-note chord, you can try this very simple 12-bar blues progression (quarter note for each chord):

    C-G, C-A, C-Bflat, C-A x 4

    F-C, F-D, F-Eflat, F-D x 2

    C-G, C-A, C-Bflat, C-A x 2

    G-D, G-E, G-F, G-E x 1

    F-C, F-D, F-Eflat, F-D x 1

    C-G, C-A, C-Bflat, C-A x 2

I'm not sure how clear that is... there is only so much instruction and detail that you can convey via Youtube comment :)

  • @GreekLink1988

    Just do a simple progression

    C E G A Bb A G E C x4

    F A C D Eb D C A F x2

    back to the C then:

    G B D E then:

    F A C D

    then back to C

  • Reminder -- I do have a PDF with all of the licks written out in most of the keys, plus MP3s of the backing track (only in C, I'm afraid), plus a list of all the vids so you can find them all in order. Just message me, and I can point you to them... :) ( - Jonathon)

  • Great this is exactly what I have been looking for! I can already play some of these but will now move on to more advanced ones! thanks for posting!

Mainly you should play whats in the heart! that's where the blues inside you is! just listen to a few blues artist and feel what they feel! then improvise and eventually it comes out of its shell!

    Long live the Blues!

  • He's taught them all. go to the other videos.

    Think before you talk.

  • great concept for a video lesson!

i've been playing for 18 years and found some great new ideas in this video!

  • i need to get to work on these... great job man you are an excellent player!

  • I'm learning, learning, learning....

  • Very Nice!

  • Thank You Great Instructional vids !

  • thats it...im going to learn how to play the piano.

  • Very nice instruction videos, I can't stop watching and practising, thank you! :)

Would it be possible to do some vids about how to accompany a band? I really have difficulties in playing "proper" chords, that don't sound boring on the one hand, but on the other hand they should "fit" and not be too "pushy". What should I play with my left hand, so that I don't interfere with the bass player...?

Most instructions "only" cover solo riffs.

I'd be really glad to watch some new lessons. :)

  • Nice licks here, but I would benefit a whole lot more if you did subsequent vids to break down each of these licks..Thanks though, really sweet.

  • he totally does dude, there's like 30 of them

  • Yeah -- sometimes its hard to find the whole series. Message me and I can send you a link which lists them all in order, with links for a PDF of the music, and the MP3's of the backing tracks... (-Jonathon)

  • Dude,

i'm also interested in the backing track...

once again , thanks for everything and great job...

    nico

  • Blues till I die.

  • These are so easy to follow, well broken down for a dafty like me...many thanks.

  • Excellent series....best instructional vids I've seen on YT for blues piano. Thank you!
