I think all Americans should be multilingual. I just think one of them should be English. It's not about being mean to other cultures. It's not about race. It's about national sovereignty; it's about common culture and borders. It's about why folks come here - for all the benefits our culture offers, without becoming part of that culture. Folks who immigrate to America should become Americans. Is that asking so much?

My Grandfather escaped the Armenian genocide in Turkey and came to America, while my grandmother came from a French speaking family in Quebec to America. They worked, raised 9 kids and LEARNED TO SPEAK ENGLISH. The difference is they wanted to be AMERICAN. The current group of whiners want the BENEFITS of America, but not to be American. My grandparents didn’t try to change America to suit themselves, they changed themselves to become AMERICAN. I'd hardly call 9 kids "carefree" .

NOTHING is more frustrating than having to deal with someone (whether it be a drive thru window, the clerk at the grocery store, ect) that doesn't speak very good or no english and you can't understand each other. You want to come to this country fine but learn to speak the language here. If I go to another country I will have to learn that language right?

well english is the international trading language. I think my compatriots(other americans) should also learn another language. The international language status won't last for long. Btw I speak Japanese, Know a little Turkish, and studied spanish but I'm only good at reading and understanding spanish more so than speaking it. And Japanese I am still studying my kanji but so are native japanese speakers at my age :D. Its useful if you are looking for an international career. but also socializing
