"I'd like to go on the record as being opposed to the use of violence for purposes of conflict resolution ...I don't believe in violence, I don't believe in violence..."
Then juxtopose Kermit with Piggy and her machine gun. They're SO cute together.
"We need a real Tom Selleck type"...lol...Tom Selleck was originally cast as Indiana Jones, but had to drop out because of his contract for Magnum PI.
George Lucas then approached Harrison Ford and the rest is history! :D
@antsamthompson9 Sesame Street and the Muppets were created by the same guy; Jim Henson. All the actors on the Muppet Show also played characters on Sesame Street (for example, Jim Henson and Frank Oz, the guys who play Kermit and Fozzie Bear respectively, also played Ernie and Bert). And some of the characters from the Muppet Show cameod on Sesame Street (Kermit used to have a news segment bit). Both shows preached non-violent solutions to conflict.
Kermit: Now this is a play gun. It's all make believe, trust me.
LOL!!! Animal chases Snow White, Miss Piggy volunteers to be a peasent woman, and Kermit volunteers to play Indiana Jones (the Tom Sellick-type character).
The Indiana Jones show is actually part of Disney Hollywood (MGM). Its a few miles from the Disney Magic Kingdom / Walt Disney World. I was surprised they have swastikas on the planes in the show. I would have thought that was not politically correct. All the Disney parks are great though! Their only fault is that they have been taken over by corporate interests to a large degree.
Well, speak of the devil- it's the Back to the Future commercial! I remember begging my dad to take me to see it. It turned out to be my favorite one of the three.
Is there a way you can put up all the other commericals from your copy?
I love how Kermit has to tell us that he hates violence when he shoots the gun. You can tell that Henson felt forced to do this part as a "commercial" for the Indiana Jones show at Disney. Henson used plenty of slapstick violence like explosions in the Muppet Show, but none of his characters ever wielded a gun until now.
ha ha.. i get what you are saying. BUT he did use guns before in several muppet projects.. i can't pick any Muppet Show sketches off the top of my head, but i know the coffee commercials had a lot of that going on.
The idea was that he was okay with violence as long as it was so over the top as to not be taken seriously at all.
Ah, Kermit - if you hadn't left your wallet back at the swamp passive-aggressively accidentally-on-purpose, none of this trouble would have happened ;)
You can't see it too clearly on this copy of the video, but Muppeteer Richard Hunt is in the audience when the host is looking for cast members. Just as that scene begins he's to the far right wearing a red shirt.
"Don't mess with my frog!"
