Border Collies rock! I have one and she is very very smart. The other night, she came up to me because she wanted a bowl of water. I was watching and episode of American Dad and told her to wait until commercial. She lied down on the floor next to me until commercial. As soon as the commercial started, she got up and looked right at me as if she was trying to remind me to get her water. She's very clever but a little stubborn. She's an awesome dog.

I agree, the last picture featureing two dogs under poodles were Bichon Frise.

I agree that Collies are the tops, but I think the German Shepherd should have been number 2. Most of the guarding and hunting dogs are pretty smart. For the Collies and GSDs, I had a cross of the two and was warned by the vet to put a lock on the fridge or my Sunday lunch would be nicked by the dog. I never did get the lock and he never did steal any but his own food from his own cupboard shelf.

Hmmm...this is correct, just numbered wrong. The #10. Austrailian Cattel Dog, should be #2 or 1. They are just not as well known. Look up Skidboot, smartest dog that ever lived. You will not even see a Border Collie do what he did. But the BC, should be second to the ACD IMHO. After watching Skidboot, come back and comment...

Hardly accurate, they're so many rare breeds that you can't possibly say that who ever wrote this list even knows. I own a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog, I think he could outsmart any of the breeds in this list, obviously on a case by case basis..it all depends on the dog. But the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog, is German Shepherd, which are smart X with Carpathian Wolf, which are also very intellegent.

I'll agree that labs are loving, patient, obedient, easy to train, and love the entire world... but there's a difference between being obedient, and being smart. A smart dog is cute because they know you like it and want you to react to it. A lab is cute because it's stupid. For example, "OH! OH! My ear itches!" *the lab scratches at her ear with her hind foot* "WOAH! Something is kicking me in the face!" *Nom noms her foot* - Labs are dumb as fuck, and I love them.

You can train a poodle and a collie to do a wider range of things. You can train a gsd to do the same things but it wont be as good at it as a poodle and a collie. Gsds are best at being police and military dogs as well as rescue dogs. Poodles and collies are best at being everything else.

Good list in general. Border Collies are definitely the rocket scientists of the group. I think the Australian Shepherd's intelligence should be upgraded much higher than it presently is. I've known quite a few and was always greatly impressed by them.

I agree with this video that these are the most willing dogs to listen and work. I do have issues with them being called the "smartest" dogs. I feel there are some really stubborn, but smart dogs that could out smart some of these dogs in certain situations. Put a Lab and a Cairn in a fenced in yard and see who figures out how to escape first. I'm not saying Cairns are the smartest breed, I'm just saying, there are different ways to look at "smart."
