  • He clearly stated he would NOT shut the state down. The full context still remains the same. Everyone already knows the shutdown never includes police and other essential services. DUH!!! The guy just reiterated what is already law: essential state services remain open. Tom asked him again, he babbled on and on refusing to answer it a second time. Obviously he knew his answer will be used against him when the budget talks began months later (now). His state of the State address included shutdown

  • He said "No, I would not shut government down, Tom." The rest is filibuster to avoid reiterating the clear question of what he would do if it came to loggerheads with the legislature. The other clip is chopped the rest of the clip doesn't change the force of his initial answer.

  • The democrats have planned on shutting down since Dayton got in.

  • This is all rhetoric. Minnesota does not have a revenue problem. Minnesota has a spending problem. They are the only state that is even considering this right now. Even if the taxes were increased on the wealthiest 2%, it would not be enough to cover the spending increases.

  • yep, changes nothing!

  • This still doesn't really change anything. The fact is that Dayton said he would not shut government down, and never suggested it when Tom Hauser asked him what he would do if the Legislature refused his tax plans.
