  • During their first two seasons (1971-73), it would have been quite interesting if The Electric Company had produced a live-action version of this sketch.

  • I love this one!

  • Check out the way she walks... Looks like she's moonwalking forward! lol

  • If only fixing your car was that easy, mechanics would be out of business.

  • That was awesome. Love the funky soundtrack. The hot sistah with the 'fro. Daym. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

  • Made me forget this was Sesame Street for a few seconds; when i heard the music and saw the lady.

  • I'm 45 years old and remember this well NONE of us thought the lower case r in this clip remotely looked like a handgun.....generational brainwashing is showing through loud and clear....

  • @fadarrell "...generational brainwashing is showing through load and clear...," Sure is!

  • 70's porn music ....wtf

  • @toriano - I agree with you - fun memory. But as you may or may not know, this was a classy attempt to reach the black audience. Television still was racist back then, so that is why you didn't see more animations with blacks in it. One prominent was was Bill Cosby's first Fat Albert Cartoon - a rarely shown surrealistic animation.

  • @toriano - back then, any reference to blackness was still penetrating the racist commercial resistance to anything black. It was a way to reach out to black audiences, both young and old. This was one of the few positive ways they achieved this.

  • yeah!! what a cool classy and hip video - no question this had references to the black films Coffee and Foxy Brown. That's what I loved about Sesame Street back then - always had great experimental programming. Sesame Street was a child psychiatrist's and sociologist's dream laboratory.

  • like the music

  • Man this brings back memories.

  • @WizeCaine94 Im black myself. I think you have all missed the humor behind what I wrote. Its ok we cant all be up to speed!

  • More like "rawr!"

Hey, sweet mama! Want me to get your motor started?

  • Damn I forgot this one, :18 looks like COFFY stashin her handgun in the engine.....( r )

  • She is rockin that fro..Go foxy brown!!!!

  • Love iT! Such Cool and Class!! BiG Thanks!! :D

  • dang I forgot about this one! *singing* Hey sista, go sista, soul sista, go sista....lol

  • u go guuuurl!

  • Klassic!!lol

  • this sounds like the start of a bad 70s Porno

  • that lady's packin heat

  • She looks like Angela Davis from "back in the day". If only it was that easy to repair a car!

  • sounds like greasey porn music

  • For a second, it looked like she took out a gun from her purse.

  • they don't make em like they used to...good stuff here..

  • Oh wow i thought she put a pistol in there!

  • @F0rkb0y I don't think it was an accident on the part of the writers! Looks more like a gloch than the letter R to me.

  • yeah, this takes me back!!!

  • DAM SHE FINE!!! I wash it were that easy to fi a car lol!!!

  • wtf did Phonics died?

  • That is some down and funky guitar playing...

  • Me too! Me too! RrrrrRRRRRrrrrrrRRRRRrrrr...

  • Shes that Badass Bitch from Dead Presidents XD

  • @CDNHottie69 OOO Yeaaa!

  • O' Shit I thought she pulled out a Glock 40

    LMAO

  • @CDNHottie69 That's funny as shit. She did pull that "thang" out. Foxy mama was packin'...

  • @arkansoul HA HA! Yeah.

  • Bow chicka wow wow.

  • OWWW!!! THAT FOXXY CARTOON MAMA WAS OUT OF SIGHT!! DIG THAT WICHO BAD SELF!

  • at least she could fix her own car

  • kids ( and "adults") need more images like this of independent women who know how to take care of business. then you wouldn't have so much misogyny.

  • So prostitute pulls a gun from her purse and makes her Beetle run again??

  • @jugglingembalmer Not every hot chick is a prostitute.

  • @mardeninthegarden You think she's hot? She's either a hooker or an undercover cop-That's cop/hooker music.

  • The guitar from 0:16 to 0:22 reminds me of Hendrix.

  • that can't be Sesame Street!

  • @durwin27 Nope, it's The Electric Company!

  • She looks just like my mama from 1973.

  • I love the music!

  • Ah man, this is GREAT!! There was a guy I used to work with who remembered this and even drew a picture of it! Shoot, I wish he was on Facebook...I'd share this with him. :)

  • gRRRobal waRRRming

  • And to think I thought she pulled out a gun.

  • I just stop and laugh every time I hear that music!! Makes me think of a pimp somewhere in Harlem...but hey, I am NOT racist, but just the way it sounds...the music...kind of like a "jive" rock! LOL

  • I remember this and loved it then and now. What I liked about it was that is was a sexy black chick as a cartoon and you didn't see that in the 70's as much. I had to laugh when I found this again...... Memories

  • thats almost too cool for words

  • This clip is NOT from Sesame Street By the way. It is from Electric Company. Which also ran in the 70's.

  • Wow, haven't seen this one in forever, but I do remember it! For a young gearhead like me, that was one of the cooler things that Sesame Street did back in the day. Today, that chick looks pretty foxy, if ya know what I mean. *laughs*

  • Was Crank on Crank?

  • wow...blast from the past...haven't seen this in DECADES...lol

  • Thanks v much!!! Have been wanting to see this for years !!!

  • An "M" sound is more realistic.

  • this is the real ish right here! Made my day

  • Man they had good weed back then.

  • Is it me or does the letter "r" look like a handgun for a split second.

  • @kev28721 yeah just noticed that. She looks like Coffy too.

  • @kev28721: I blame "The Sopranos" (which uses a handgun as the small "r" in their title card). Trust me--back in the 70s, guns weren't common enough to give kids the wrong impression of this cartoon. Not even in New York, where TEC is still being filmed... :)

  • @hoopersghost Consider if you will, that an animated segment on the premiere episode of Sesame Street ("Jazz #2") featured two men pointing guns at each other.

  • @RJSchex : Two-ché... :-) At least those guns fired banners, though, not bullets.

  • I've seen porn movies that start like this!

I just forgot how they end...

  • Hey, it's Pam Grier!!!! LOL!!!

  • no its angela davis...lol

  • luv that funk

  • BOO YA!

  • luv the groovy funky music when she gets out of her car

  • She almost needs a sunroof for her afro

  • It's Aminat from Cycle 12 "America's Next Top Model" before they gave her extensions!! :-) Maybe she's late for a "go see"!! Great memories! Thanks for sharing!

  • I always thought that was Susan because she owned a VW Bug...anyway it was great to see this again..Thanx!!

  • This vintage animated Sesame Street clip takes me back to when I was 4 years of age. Probably from 1975 or 1976. That disco music and afro hairstyle really captures that clip.

  • Did you just see her use a GUN to make the car run? Take a look.. LOL!!!

  • That's a Small Letter R. NOT a gun.

It's good to see this clip, I remember this very well.

  • Classic. lol

  • this cartoon perfectly captures the flavor of that period of time...

  • awesome! You go girl!

  • Now I know what inspired me to become a Master Mechanic!

  • Did anyone notice that she's driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser? The cartoonist is about 30 years ahead of the actual vehicle!

  • wow so strange...it does look a lot like that car

  • When I was a kid I always wondered why she dropped a gun in there.

  • She looks like she's modeled after a "Coffy"-era Pam Grier. Rrrrr, indeed. ;-)

  • ROFL, I always thought she was modeled after Lee Chamberlin! Peace

  • Me too! For a cartoon, she was kinda hot!

  • I remember this clip..LOL. You couldn't make this kind of clip today, it would be called racist.

  • you mean rrrrrrrr......rrrracist lol

  • How so?

  • @lillie20 this was circa 1972 or so. Wasn't meant to be racist. That was how black women were portrayed on tv back then. just check out some of the cop shows from that time and old episodes of soul train or sanford and son. yeah I know that your comment is a year old but I just saw it.

  • Wow, I haven't seen that since I was kid!

  • I remember this clip very well as a youngster of about 4 or 5 years of age. I wanted to look just like this woman...cool, confident and beautiful with a strut as funky music played in the background. Well, today no funky music in the background when I strut, but all else is well!

  • Wow. Now I really feel old! I kinda hate that I actually remember that skit.

  • I can tell you what's wrong, somebody went and put the engine in the front of a VW bug.

  • that looks soo like a gun. that's a subliminal message if I ever seen one.

  • why does the car sound like a pirate?

  • They didn't play this one too often past the early 80's. Glad you found it!

  • At first I thought she pulled out her 9mm....how politically incorrect is THAT?

  • I lived next door to this chick. She and her old man were always fighting. And then every morning at 7:30, man, RRRRRRRRR........it got old.

  • That's a serious Afro !

  • I so remember this!

  • Love the whacka-whacka soundtrack!

  • Wow! I had totally forgotten about that clip too! But from back then. Man it is wild to see that now as an adult! THANK YOU for posting.

and yeah that music is funky!

  • And to think that's how we dressed in the seventies.

  • haha how unpolitically correct. cool walk, high skirt, cocks leg :)

  • If an "R" really did all that,I can see it now on MSNBC and CNN. "The price of R's has gone up, due to the speculation that more Americans are driving older vehicles which will need more repair. If this trend continues the US government would have to create a "windfall tax" for these large letter giants" How will the traders trade with international nations ? You would have to determine the values of their letters, and the story goes on !

  • You're funny!

I was thinking, oh look, Peggy Jones got her free "r" handout from Obama, so she doesn;t have to worry about putting r in her tank anymore.

  • WHAT!!!? That's all I had to do to fix the car was put a "R" in the engine? Do you know how much I spent at the dealership? Mechanics never tell you this, so you have to keep going back to them. DAMN!

  • Washting thish while drinksing. Frickshen hilarioush.

  • she bad!

  • Damn..What a mechanic..LOL..get Christy Love lookalike.

  • i love all your comments...LOL

  • is the cartoon woman supposed to be Susan from Sesame Street because didn't she have a VW?

  • oh, that's what the letter are "r" sounds like.

I've been pronouncing it all this time:

    "P"

  • lol i thought it was a gun

  • Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrroovy!

  • If you can really use an "R" to keep your car running, the oil companies and perhaps Wal-Mart will buy up all the rights to have an "R'. R's will be taxed and you will have to pay out the #$%^ to own an "R".

  • great porn music

  • childrens shows used to be so hip!

  • I soooo remember this! I feel like a kid again watching these retro clips!

  • Go Go boot are where it's at!

  • Isn't this Electric Company?

  • funky music.

  • Gas is so expensive these days...I wish you COULD get your car running by sticking an 'r' in it

  • talk about "gunning the engine"!!!!! i used to think she was putting a gun in the motor!!! but the music is funky as hell, and her ride was pimpin', too!!! see how she rides off all leaned back and shit? too damn cool!!!

  • Looks like a Citroën 2CV. Peace.

  • yea me too...

  • Awesome! I feel like a kid again.

  • at first i thought she was putting a gun in the car LOL

  • that's too funny hahaha

  • I remember that one in the 70's but now that I'm older I know a VW car has the engine in the back.

Tune in next time when you'll hear me say... warp warp whop whop warp.

  • WOW! That music is fierce!! Foxy Brown work it!!

  • That's Funky!

  • lol clever

  • Yea that was stankdafied. The kinda stank thats in ya clothes and makes you act a fool man!

  • Wasn't that on Sesame Street to.

  • you mean "too", as in "in addition to" (spelled with TWO "o"'s.and,no..IT'S THE ELECTRIC COMPANTY, not Sesame Street........methinks YOU really could use the Electric Company today...the show taught spelling.....................in a fun way.

  • it was shown on sesame street a few times

  • I never saw this on any CTW show *except* Sesame Street; even when TEC taught the sounds of individual letters, those letters were always part of a word.

  • omg she is hot!

  • rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

    ahaha thats awesome lol

  • Prior to 1973, most cars that didn't have catalytic converters ran on lower-case r's.

  • HA!!! Classic!

  • LOL That was funny.

  • Internet provider: $19.95 a month. Old School Sesame Street on DVD: $39.99. Brilliant comments from a fellow fan: priceless.

  • That ain't no ledda "urh" I placed gendlee into da caberator..

    I'twas my colt revolver.

  • wow havnt seen that since early 80s but knew what it was soon as i saw it funny how things come right back!

  • wow, that music is DIRTY!

we had awesome music growing up, and awesome shows like T.E.C.

  • I've never heard instrumental music described as 'dirty' before. Great description!

  • Isn't it strange how now a days the tv shows don't teach the children anything at all, even the cartoons suck now day it's all gone

  • I couldn't agree more!

  • How could a hand gun fix and engine???

  • Wow... is this comment a sign of the times or what!?? Kids didn't think like that back then... clearly, that was a lower case R. Nowadays its all guns and blowing up people. Sad.

  • i remember this too, great learning tools for children, but the adult creators had to be on something.

  • Boom chicka wow wow......boom chicka wow wow...I'm 34 I still remember this!

  • 38 here ... have not seen this in probably 30 years. Kids have no idea when they're missing today.

  • I concur

  • I am 41 and remember most of these clips..thats quality childrens programming!

  • I grew up with this and Sesame Street.. I was reading before the age of 3!

  • Me, too!
