My only real complaints with this movie are the fact they made him a detective instead of a marine and the lack of the skull! Punisher doesn't really have a costume, just give him a black shirt with a skull and he's good to go!

No john travolta: Ok you need a good serial killer and there is no better than JT but the worst mistake... I did not like the one with Thomas Jane and John Travolta at all. The 1989 version of Punisher and Warzone are both badass in my opinion, and capture what the Punisher does perfectly, KILLING!
Yeah, pretty much. I think they wanted people to relate to the guy more in the Jane one, but at the cost of what made The Punisher cool in the first place. Oh well.
I don't see how Warzone was bad (or beyond), it captured the brutality of the Punisher and had great action, even had a couple of good laughs in there. However I do agree that this movie handled The Punisher story the best, the atmosphere of the film felt comic bookish which was a good thing. And it had Dolph Lundgren.
Dude the movie was horrible. Capturing the feel of the Punisher requires some one who can make you believe they ARE the Punisher. When you go through 2 hours and not once think the man infront of you (on screen) is Frank then well that does it. Not one sec in the whole movie did ANYONE (based on the response to the movie and fans/critics) believe Frank Caslte the Punisher was in front of them. On a side note it wasn`t even that good an action film........sleeper big time. this will take 2 posts
well mabey not 2 posts but since Im here. There is more to the Punisher then just killing. in the comics we identify with the mans loss but guy in movie fails to bring that across. With out that link between fan and film there IS no Punisher. If they did this movie here now adays it would rule. Even Dolph could pull it off if they let him but there is better men for the job. The sad fact is if you cant identify with a person (that a whole movie is based on) you are bound for faliure.
But it does identify with the man's loss. His family was taken from him, as you can see from a flashback in Warzone. Then he accidentally kills a father/husband who happened to be an under-cover cop. He showed remorse for the family because in a way, he took away the same thing that was taken from him. Then he tried to give the wife and child money, watched over them, and was determined to protect them from JigSaw.I thought he showed quite a bit of emotion in Warzone.
I only like a hand-full of Marvel characters, number 1 being Punisher. The rest are Capt. America, Hulk, Dare Devil, Wolverine, and I can't really think of anymore at the moment. I was always more of a DC guy. But if it matters, Punisher and Superman are probably my top 2 favorite characters. Punisher is THE ANTI-HERO, his story is one of the darker no holds bars ones, whereas Superman represents all that is good, he is THE HERO.

Are the action scenes in this Punisher 1989 movie sooo HARDCORE and uninterrupted as the trailer and this clip shows????
NOTE: When I said uninterrupted I meant that if the action scenes are not interrupted by other scenes or talking like in Death Wish 5.
In other words: Are the action scenes just pure uninterrupted bulletfests???

Well, there is a plot to the film. I would recommend watching this one for its goofiness and fun action scenes. Don't bother too much with the dialog.

This one is real The Punisher movie. Dolph Lundgren was perfect as Frank Castle (Punisher).

Can't count his death as it's possible the guy didn't die or escaped. They leave him on the rack, but we don't see what happens.

I did not like the one with Thomas Jane and John Travolta at all. The 1989 version of Punisher and Warzone are both badass in my opinion, and capture what the Punisher does perfectly, KILLING!

Yeah, pretty much. I think they wanted people to relate to the guy more in the Jane one, but at the cost of what made The Punisher cool in the first place. Oh well.

Dude Warzone was BEYOND BAD. Warzone made This one and the Jane one look like oscar worthy films.
I personally think this one was the best and handled the story best.

I don't see how Warzone was bad (or beyond), it captured the brutality of the Punisher and had great action, even had a couple of good laughs in there. However I do agree that this movie handled The Punisher story the best, the atmosphere of the film felt comic bookish which was a good thing. And it had Dolph Lundgren.

Dude the movie was horrible. Capturing the feel of the Punisher requires some one who can make you believe they ARE the Punisher. When you go through 2 hours and not once think the man infront of you (on screen) is Frank then well that does it. Not one sec in the whole movie did ANYONE (based on the response to the movie and fans/critics) believe Frank Caslte the Punisher was in front of them. On a side note it wasn`t even that good an action film........sleeper big time. this will take 2 posts

well mabey not 2 posts but since Im here. There is more to the Punisher then just killing. in the comics we identify with the mans loss but guy in movie fails to bring that across. With out that link between fan and film there IS no Punisher. If they did this movie here now adays it would rule. Even Dolph could pull it off if they let him but there is better men for the job. The sad fact is if you cant identify with a person (that a whole movie is based on) you are bound for faliure.

But it does identify with the man's loss. His family was taken from him, as you can see from a flashback in Warzone. Then he accidentally kills a father/husband who happened to be an under-cover cop. He showed remorse for the family because in a way, he took away the same thing that was taken from him. Then he tried to give the wife and child money, watched over them, and was determined to protect them from JigSaw.I thought he showed quite a bit of emotion in Warzone.

I only like a hand-full of Marvel characters, number 1 being Punisher. The rest are Capt. America, Hulk, Dare Devil, Wolverine, and I can't really think of anymore at the moment. I was always more of a DC guy. But if it matters, Punisher and Superman are probably my top 2 favorite characters. Punisher is THE ANTI-HERO, his story is one of the darker no holds bars ones, whereas Superman represents all that is good, he is THE HERO.

@Horns9 the Jane/Travolta version was based more on the comic book series, thats why it doesn't have that feel to it like the other 2 films have.
