ALMA GLUCK (May 11, 1884 – October 27, 1938) was a Romanian-born American soprano, one of the world's most famous female singers at the peak of her career (circa 1910).
If not mistaken, believe there are 100+ recordings by alma Gluck. A very gifted artist, one of the best sellers in her day, rivaling both Caruso and McCormack in sales. Thank you, Paulo!
I don't recall a single recording by Alma Gluck that didn't bring me some pleasure. Her lovely tone as well as her phrasing and shading are the reasons why Gluck's singing is so charming and real. I admire Tetrazzini's recording of the song, but more for her technique than sorrowful expression; in the case of Gluck, her technical skills are used more effectively to elicit the mood of the piece. Thanks for sharing, Doug!
A beautiful rendition. Nicely felt and sung. The fact that she is still remembered despite such a short career is a testament to her lovely singing and personality.
Beautiful and moving. Her pronunciation is noteworthy here...it is very clear, about the best I have heard from the recording sopranos of her day who did English language songs. Lovely.
And to think she was active for what? perhaps 10 years, forced to retire due to vocal problems in the early-mid 1920s. During this period the critics were having a difficult time being complimentary. Her discography from 1920-1924 shows take after take after unissued take. Still, such an astonishing, glowing, wonderful, beautiful legacy.

Alma Gluck always sang with uncompromising interpretive insight in a voice so
inviting she makes even the most trifling songs poetic, compelling and true!
