I don't mean to be rude, this is coming from a long time fan of NOVA but I have to say I'm not enjoying the newer series as much. Does everything have to be simplified to these extremes, and filled with "funny" examples?
Sagan did it first of course, but that was pretty mild and interspersed with more complex ideas. These days it seems like everything has to be amusing for the lowest common denominator.
I still respect PBS for putting out original science programming don't get me wrong.
@megamarsvin Well of course things have to be dumbed down for, dumb people. I don't really think you should have to be a mathematician or physicist to be into physics. Physics does address and ask some pretty fundamental things about the nature of the world we live in. Easy for me to say, I'm in calculus and calculus based physics.
I think its good to get people interested in science so there is more public support for science education and research. These shows are made for the layman anyway.
They're trying too hard with all these fancy animations, and special fx. Greene is much cooler without the bells and whistles from the art department.
That scene from the bar ("I'm gonna…have what he's having" 0:51) is from Greene's previous special "The Elegant Universe." Not sure what it's doing in the promo for a supposedly brand-new special, but……it did explain quantum states in quite a fun (and understandable?) way so I guess it's cool? :|
This is sooooo exciting! This is the kind of thing that makes me believe in things like Star Trek, Doctor Who and John Carter of Mars! This stuff also strengthens my belief that God is somewhere out there in space! I agree with Michio Kaku that when we peer into the cosmos we are looking into the mind of God.
Might it really be possible--in fact and not in fancy--to venture with John Carter to the Kingdom of Helium on the planet Mars? --Carl Sagan
I am so looking forward to this show, I can only hope that it can come close to the quality of the old Carl S. shows I grew up watching. I love stuff like this. I love stuff that makes me think in theoretical ways to try and visualize the possibilities that may be there if I just open my mind to infinite takes on reality.
Is it really necessary this overload of special effects in a science documentary? What about all the speculative physics such as reverse time travel? Isn't what we DO know well in physics interesting enough? I love Nova, The Universe etc. but I really think the US should learn A LOT from the BBC about how to do science documentaries.

How is the overall darkness as perceived in the universe connected to humanity--lighten up--seek the Presence of GOD.

NOVA needs a lot more Brian Greene presence. The Brian Greene in our universe will suffice hahaha

I can't see part 1 in their site. Is it because I live in France?

Poppycock! Balderdash! Bosh, Piffle and Twaddle! Tommy Rot! Hogwash! Gibberish! Mumbo Jumbo! Horsefeathers! Flim Flam! Gobbledygook! Flapdoodle! Malarkey!
A very exciting show does not the truth make.
I'm from Missouri. Don't impress me with the imagination of the producers.
This is the same old story in a new digital special effects dress that impresses viewers with smoke and mirrors.

cannot wait ;_; this will be so epic. It' great to see Alex Filipenco(?lol) in it.
I do hope, however, that it's not redundant and explores things that NOVA hasn't already gone over.
