@ImGalactic Pilots are always flying for a reason. USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) and her air wing is deployed now so this pilot could very well have flown in country to support troops on the ground.
@usnavy Hey I'm a junior in high school and I've wanted to fly for the navy for as long as i can remember, can you please tell me how I should accomplish this? Thanks a lot.
@dodgingdaniel "how do you know when your about to be catapulted"
Watch the "shooter" guy in the yellow on the left. He's the officer in charge of launching. Once he squats and points forward, you are along for the ride. There's another guy in a "bubble" just above the deck you can't see, but he can see the shooter and hits a button once the shooter points.
@dodgingdaniel The pilots have communications with some on deck as well as the Air Boss in the flight tower. Visual aids would be looking at the Shooter (Officer in yellow jersey, khaki pants). Once he kneels to the side and points up the catapult that is him giving the signal for the ABE behind him under the flight deck to release the break.
@p0wer5000 "So I see alot of f-14, f-15 and f-18 in cockpit videos why are there no f-22A raptor in cockpit videos??? is it still to new and "classified"?"
@Nfarce In the F/A-18, the launch is computer controlled. Any accidental input from the pilot could interfere with that. So, it's hands off the stick until the aircraft is airborne. At least, that's what I've read.
@DannyB587 - Yeah I knew that already. Just seeing who else knew it lol. Tomcat pilots never had grab the bars as far as I can tell, so the accidental stick hit reason doesn't add up too well.
@tenacious645 I was told that you can. While serving, classes are given which give you college credits. The military is really focused on ones scholastic advancements. I wish you luck friend :)

Nobody is asking why he has his right hand on the grab bar? Nope, it's not to hold on for dear life! Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
Nfarce 2 months ago
@Nfarce I'm not a Navy pilot, but I understand it's to keep the guy from unintentionally pulling on the stick during the high G acceleration.
