thats just sad don't u thin because the soldiers saw all sorts of stuff what the ira done to there on people and looking at children who had to go thro that all because of the stupid terrorist AKA the IRA
What a load of Scummy posts from people who were never there , I was a 30 years Soldier , we murdered people there I was with 1 Coldstream Guards who had been there for 3 months before they brought in the Paras and an Army Cluster Fuck began , The Guards were used as Street Liners who directed the March to The Bogside I could never understand that , we knew the Bogside and The Para's had lost men in Belfast and were vengeful surely a good plan was to use the local troops for riot control
@robin22391 Yes you can ask , I joined for The Ski-ing in Bavaria , nice uniform , saving the world from USA domination , playing sport every afternoon , going to The Sultan of Brunei 's 40th Birthday party at his Palace in Bandar Seri Begawan , taking abuse in Northern Ireland , stopping Plebs from killing each other , Moving my family every two years , my kids having 6 different schools before the age of twelve and moving again never settling anywhere .
@robin22391 Why are so interested in my enlistment ? and what do you do to earn a living , may I ask ? People enlist for many reasons each one different depending on their own personal circumstances .
i am just genuinely curious, you seemed like you had a story to tell since it seems you were in the army stationed in ireland at that time. i myself am unemployed but also a studying.
it seems enlisting in the army is not such a good idea, afterall We're the middle children of history.... no purpose or place. We have no Great War, no Great Depression.
@robin22391 Like many " Old Soldiers" we served at various time during " The Troubles " and each one has a story to tell and telling it on a UVF posted tune is not the place for a reasoned debate
@dreadedlurgy The reason why it lasted so long is both sides had long memories and both have Christian attitudes but could not " Turn the other cheek " or " Love Your Neighbour " A sewer of a Cuntry "purpose spelling" who will blame Oliver Cromwell as it is never their fault . They cannot drag their minds from 1690
@robin22391 I also joined when we had full employment and I had a good job in the " City " but the humdrum of " Civvy " Life bored me , Back Packing in The Rockies , Exercising in Kenya , all paid for by the tax payer , every day different .
@mulli666 What have waves got to do with it you knob head. Bloody sunday happened because the British Army showed themselves for what they really were. Give me the name of one "rebel" shot that day
He didentu se his body as a shield, get your facts straight. He was just in the room at the time of the bomb. Same as everybody else it maimed and killed.
@darrin42 he used his body as a shield he threw 2 people in the corner and stood above it and no1 else was killed or maimed because of his actions. do some research
@yorksbill He closed the door, and stood against it.......thats very different from ''laying down on the package and murmuring one fairwell'' I am not trying to claim the man was not brave, but why exagerate really?
The incident of the soldier embracing the bomb was poetic licence. The point was, that young lad was a very brave man, giving his own life to save others, including those who branded him a murderer.
@mayhem380 Yes I understand what the song is trying to say alright. I just dont like the way the stretch is added into it in regards to him lying down on top of the bomb and deliberataly chosing to be oblitorated. I would say that is a little bit more than just poetic licence.
@bbass67.. the IRA are a cowardly scum, shoot to kill was the pira policy. yet when the tables were turned, they cried to the world. COWARDLY SCUM....
A haunting and thoughtful song by Harvey Andrews, in tribute to this unknown hero soilder..........

so you joined because of the holidays but found the job was not good for family, so would you join up if you could go back in time again?
or do you not like the idea of being sent to strange lands to kill for rich guys.

Yeah, I understand it's a little far, but either way Sgt Willetts knew he would be injured or die in the bomb's explosion.
