It seems inevitable that whenever there is a really simple tool that gets the job done. Broadhead, round ball/muzzle loader, or slug, someone will come along with a version that ads some potential ballistic advantage at the cost of less predictable performance. Mechanical broadhead, and sabots for example. Shotgun slug was good already. Sure there is a reason for it, just so long as people don't jump to the conclusion the sizzle is better than the steak.

Not really for hunting. Would risk damaging meat. Good aim is better. But against people, it would be highly effective. Might get some as home defense rounds.

@KyleCMJohnson It's totally great for large game. The shrapnel parts only come free on large impact and they're wedge shaped up front to slice though flesh. Being steel they don't deform as they travel leaving a clean path as they pass through usually perforrating vital organs, should you make a bad shot to the body, or even hitting the spine. Combine this with the hydrostatic effect of the round as it enters and it usually kills the animal before it can hit the ground. Proven to do it to bears

wow those things are nasty have you heard of dixie slugs triball? it is a 3 or 3.5 inch shell that holds 3 sixty caliber lead balls that weigh 325grains a piece the 3 inch claims 1050fps from 20inch barrel and the 3.5inch claims 1150fps same barrel length thats 975grains or roughly 2.25ounces of lead thats half an ounce over a 10 gauge slug

Ddupleks in Latvia, makes very good slugs.Price of one Hexolit slug is 4 euros,here in Finland.Ex Soviet countries have a long tradition of making slugs. I think,it was not possible for civilians to own a rifle,in Soviet Union.So they made slugs and shot everything with shotgun.Hexolit is exelent slug

Looked it up on the ddupleks website. Looks like it won't hurt at all. It's designed so that one or two of the splinters hit the spine, while another couple hit other vital organs. Whatever it hits pretty much drops where it stands. Probably dead before it hits the ground. No suffering for the animal, and no need to go hiking looking for it.

These rounds worked exactly as they were designed. The steel inserts are supposed to separate from the main body and travel in a conical path as the slug expands. There is another type of ammo that is very similar made by the same company that does not loose the petals. I have some of the red ones on order and will include them in the next test session. I dont know why they showed it on the cover like that. It is only that way for an instant. The red version has locked petals.
