the reason why brain surgery is mostly done while the patient is awake, is although the brain has many nerves inside of it, the brain has no sensation of pain, so the doctors prefer the patient to be awake so if the doctors do something wrong, the patient can respond to the wrong action.

I was awake when they cut up my ball (yes one of my my testicles) to remove some fluid. It was a hydrocele. They gave me an epidural (numbs ur lower body) but it hurt in my stomach while performing the surgery so THEY GAVE ME MORPHINE!!!...ahhh..I was so high that I was smiling when they rolled me out of surgery...

The brain has no pain receptors. Doesn't need to because naturally nothing is supposed to come in contact with the brain anyway, since it's protected by the skull. This guy(like everyone who has brain surgery) was asleep when they drilled through the skull. It's safe for the guy to be awake for the brain procedure because there are no receptors, he won't feel it. If anything, he'd feel pressure or feel the surgery taking place, but not pain.

honestly I got surgery on my head, well nothing as major as this but I got a cyst removed from my head & they cut my scalp open & I had to also be awake but seriously just sitting there & feeling all the pressure inside of your head is the scariest feeling in the world, I still have nightmares of the feeling I had when I got that surgery.
