@YearraeY I beg to differ as to this "pos" Yamaha. Look at the neck, body, and headstock binding, that's not done on their entry level models. Same with the fretboard inlays. I'm pretty sure this is an SG2000 and they've been used by Phil Keaggy and Carlos Santana, and neither of them play "pos" guitars. And I think this one belongs to Neal's son Miles. I've seen him playing a similiar model onstage in his father's latest band. These guitars (much like the old Ibanez Artists) are quality pieces.
Yamaha are reissuing these now and the 4 different models retail between 2500-3300 $ and as you say there's nothing pos about these.Theyre the absolute best electric guitars that yamaha produces right now and are equal or better in tone/build quality to anything gibson offers new right now.@YearraeY get your facts straight .

The gibson customshop is a hit and miss according to my experience,we got a black beauty LP 3 pu bigsby VOS delivered today and whoever was responsible for trying to make it look like "a well maintaned vintage instrument" dropped the ball.The metal parts looked like crap,like he used 200 grit sandpaper and everything was scratched instead of having a dull,used patina,this is a 8k $ instrument and it isn't acceptable in my opinion.Theyre just too inconsistent tbh.

His melodic solos are unsurpassed in rock, his speed is a blur when unleashed, and all grudges aside, his collaboration with Steve Perry (which started with Patiently), created great music that will be here long after we are all gone. Bet on this: when Schon is 80 years old he'll look back and without ego or remorse be able to say, "I was in the top 10, yah, but Steve was the best that ever was". Too bad it'll take years. .
That is so off the hook...I had to face the reality at a young age that I was never going to be anywhere near as good as this guy when I was backstage at a Journey concert in Fresno CA. after the pre-Steve Perry journey's set....Neal and Ross were both plugged in to a Fender Twin amp and the stuff Neal was playing while not even concentrating on the guitar was literally astounding. He's the best in existance, speed, melody, touch, creativity, dynamics, emotion....no one is better.
Regarding the eternal rift between Perry and Schon...the fact that Schon hates Perry (and vice versa) doesn't mean he hates the voice and the success it brought the band over the years. I'm sure Neal knows how much the Perry voice is important to continued success. If Neal didn't think Perry's voice was what made the songs what they were, he never would've pursued Pineda. He may be stubborn, but he's not an idiot.
I must say, I don't hate Neal nearly as much as I thought I did since I heard original Journey songs being played on his website. I thought he regretted those years.

The fact is that Journey had a history before Perry. Was it as commercially successful? No, but there was a Journey before Perry, thanks to Schon and Rolie, and there's one after Steve's departure. Journey is Schon's band, whether the new material gets airplay, or you like it or not. Neal didn't bring in Arnel because he (Schon) needs money. He wants an atmosphere in which to be creative. Can't do that with the tension between him and Perry. And "maybe a little help from Neal"? Spare me, please.

I liked Rolie and I loved how Perry and him sounded together when they sang, but Perry was the one who saved the band from termanation.Journey may-be Neals band but you would never know that since Neal would never open his mouth with anything or ever take charge of anything. I'm sure both of them can be rude and selfish. Aren't we all at some time? I met and hung out with Schon and he was great. I'm sure people have met Perry and felt the same. It 's irrelevant. And Neal took charge long enough to take his band back. Perry was a great, great singer who opened the door to commercial success. He needed Schon and Caine. They needed him. Together they did wonders. And "he hates Perry" is an overstatement. Band relationships are a myriad of emotions, highly complex.
Wouldn't even think of denying your statement. It's accurate. Neal needs a singer with a certain range and tonality in order to do the old catalog justice. He can't get a baritone to sing Faithfully. Perry set a standard and style with those songs that must be adhered to or the songs don't work. Hey, I wish I could find a singer like Perry, I'd snap him up in a heartbeat. I marvel at Perry's voice, it's a treasure. The creative atmosphere turns toxic when he and Schon are together. Can't work.

Not being rude but honest, I never hear a Journey song on the radio and tv that has anyone other than Perry. The accolades came with him too. I just don't think you can replace someone, and the manner in which it was done does not sit well with a lot of fans. Imagine a reunion tour with Perry!!!! Sold out arenas, like it used to be.
Oh come on!!! Yes, Steve Perry is an incredible singer, but to make out that Journey should stop making music without him is horrendous. Revelation with Arnel is a spectacular album, an album that kills every other album released for the last decade at least. Neal, Jon, Dean and Ross are a truly amazing band, and with Arnel they are unstoppable. Yes, Steve Perry is my favourite, but Arnel is an extremely close second, and Steve Augeri next. Both Arnel and Steve A are powerhouse singers.

I have nothing against Arnel but he just does not do it for me or ever will. When a singer puts joy in my heart, and leaves me in a trance like state when hes done singing, then for me that singer is Mr Perry. Everytime he sings I am flooded with such strong, emotional, feelings which leaves me so choked up and for that perry will always be my favorite singer in journey. What can I say except I love the guy!!!
Anyone that truly pays attention to what Neal says, since after all, it is HIS band not yours..as musicians in a WORKING world famous group, who were looking to maintain..the "legacy" sound that was what brought them into the lime light in the first place...they hired , the "sound" they were looking for, NOT a replacement for SP, and they'd tell you that. I will ALWAYS be a SP fan, but am also an SA, and AP fan, and fan of ANY member LUCKY enough to be brought into their fold...
While I have heard the comment "everyone is replaceable," and true in theory, you cannot replace the intangible qualities that a person has. Again, while a group of fans many have accepted new lead singers, a majority of fans cannot accept the premise. Perhaps it should have been handled differently. The fans fell in love with what was presented to us and what we chose. I totally agree with you as well that others like Cain, Rollie, Dunbar, Smith, Valory, etc are all very talented.

Paul Berney, yeah..they should have called them by another name. Arnel in my opinion is not a close second. Bad English was Journey but with Jon Waite. Should they have called themselves Journey too? Journey was/is with Perry. That's what the fans were presented with and what we chose to love. It was Perry's voice that drew us in. Again, another name would have been preferable.

Not trying to be rude, but that's how the fans remember Journey. I guess even more frustration comes from the fact that we hear 2 singers (not counting Soto) who try and emulate Perry's voice. The message to the fans appears that we will call ourselves Journey and put a lead singer out there who sounds like Perry but he isn't. Perhaps another sound our a completely different direction would have been better served. You cannot just replace people.
T he reference of intervals since Perry's last solo cd's, I find quite interesting. Reading numerous comments, it is very evident that many fans await his new CD. Yes, even after 16 years, it is so worth it! Many if not most of the fans learned of Perry when he was with Journey. We have waited all these years and he has not been with them since 98. Finally, why do there have to be sides? Why couldn't it have been called something else after Perry left? The success of Journey came with Perry.
If that were the case, it would be called the "Neal Schon Show." I don't see it that way but rather a collaboration of talented artists. Albeit, Mr. Schon is very talented and in my opinion, one of the greatest players. It was the fans that chose Journey's success. We made our decision based on what we heard being presented to us. The fans want what they had. With the utmost respect, overwhelmingly, the fans want the Journey they chose many years ago.
Not that Perry was the only person in the band who mattered, but to paraphrase Neal Schon in his VH1 interview "the success of the band came with Perry." He was given the reigns." Journey became famous when he was the Frontman. It is his voice we recall with memories of our past. Accolades were achieved when Perry ws with Journey. They had a chemistry that cannot be duplicated. Second, I do not see it as "Neil's Band" either. It is a collaboration of all artists.
We love you guys so much and hope that we can relive the magic we felt many years ago. A heartffelt apology if what I say bothers you. We want what was special to us and that means that every piece of the puzzle has to be in place. Wishing you the best and hoping our wishes come true.
to diehardperryfan, for those of us that accept Journey today, it doesn't mean we've forgotten about Perry. I can understand Perry saying that it was a personal decision but he must also realize that many depend on the band for their income. It's his JOB to accept this responsibility. But I agree, surgery is always a serious matter. Second, these guys WANT to work. With Perry, I get the feeling that we'd still be waiting for that new Journey recording......
Third, Journey is a ROCK band and Perry was taking it into another direction that wasn't bad, I'll admit, but not what we as rock fans want. Perry's voice isn't what it was either. I'm not saying he can't sing. I believe he sings very, very well. He can still hit those high notes well but to go on tour and to do it night after night singing those classic tunes is a thing of the past. We love Perry and we do miss him but we also love Journey. At the rate Perry releases songs,........
this upcoming CD may be his last. I'm not trying to be funny. Look, he puts out a solo debut in 1984, followed with another in 1994, 2 best of CD's since then (nothing new in terms of material) and now may have a new one in Feb 2010. That's 10 years between the first 2 CD's and 16 years until the new one. Perry will be 61 by then. I would hate to wait for that long between Journey releases if that's the alternative. It's Neal's band, he wants to be active and it's his right. .......
There is nothing wrong with what either is doing. It's just that it is what they feel most comfortable doing. Not saying Perry is lazy, neither. He just enjoys his privacy. He KNOWS fans miss him and adore him. If music is really that important to him and his fans as well, I'm sure he would be more proactive with his output. I mean, it's not like he has a part time job or something. And if he resides or resided in Del Mar, it also tells me he isn't hurting financially. I like what Perry.....

I did not dislike the direction in which Journey was going. I have spent much time perusing comments on You Tube and other sites in which Journey fans from the 70's to current want Journey, with Perry, back again. When any person mentions Journey, synonymously, Perry is mentioned.

For a lot of us it's that Journey was something magical that you, Steve, Jon, Ross and Steve S. gave us. For example, people generally have one true love in a lifetime. All the others after that person will never compare to your heart's true love. I guess you can go on but you can't be 100%, right? That's what a lot of the fans feel. Sure you can place another singer at Center Stage but our memories, love for you guys and your music will always be what turned us onto Journey.

Satriani is a great player but lacks in writing good melodic songs, too much rock, LOVE THING and a couple others are amazing for sure, too bad he doesn't write more stuff like that.
I agree Neal is brilliant, but apart from that I think your view is a little absurd. Just because you don't feel Vai and Satriani are any good, doesn't mean they don't appeal to anyone.
Why not just appreciate Schon for who he is, and not for who Vai isn't if you catch my drift.

@YearraeY I beg to differ as to this "pos" Yamaha. Look at the neck, body, and headstock binding, that's not done on their entry level models. Same with the fretboard inlays. I'm pretty sure this is an SG2000 and they've been used by Phil Keaggy and Carlos Santana, and neither of them play "pos" guitars. And I think this one belongs to Neal's son Miles. I've seen him playing a similiar model onstage in his father's latest band. These guitars (much like the old Ibanez Artists) are quality pieces.

Yamaha are reissuing these now and the 4 different models retail between 2500-3300 $ and as you say there's nothing pos about these.Theyre the absolute best electric guitars that yamaha produces right now and are equal or better in tone/build quality to anything gibson offers new right now.@YearraeY get your facts straight .

The gibson customshop is a hit and miss according to my experience,we got a black beauty LP 3 pu bigsby VOS delivered today and whoever was responsible for trying to make it look like "a well maintaned vintage instrument" dropped the ball.The metal parts looked like crap,like he used 200 grit sandpaper and everything was scratched instead of having a dull,used patina,this is a 8k $ instrument and it isn't acceptable in my opinion.Theyre just too inconsistent tbh.

That is so off the hook...I had to face the reality at a young age that I was never going to be anywhere near as good as this guy when I was backstage at a Journey concert in Fresno CA. after the pre-Steve Perry journey's set....Neal and Ross were both plugged in to a Fender Twin amp and the stuff Neal was playing while not even concentrating on the guitar was literally astounding. He's the best in existance, speed, melody, touch, creativity, dynamics, emotion....no one is better.

Regarding the eternal rift between Perry and Schon...the fact that Schon hates Perry (and vice versa) doesn't mean he hates the voice and the success it brought the band over the years. I'm sure Neal knows how much the Perry voice is important to continued success. If Neal didn't think Perry's voice was what made the songs what they were, he never would've pursued Pineda. He may be stubborn, but he's not an idiot.

The fact is that Journey had a history before Perry. Was it as commercially successful? No, but there was a Journey before Perry, thanks to Schon and Rolie, and there's one after Steve's departure. Journey is Schon's band, whether the new material gets airplay, or you like it or not. Neal didn't bring in Arnel because he (Schon) needs money. He wants an atmosphere in which to be creative. Can't do that with the tension between him and Perry. And "maybe a little help from Neal"? Spare me, please.

I liked Rolie and I loved how Perry and him sounded together when they sang, but Perry was the one who saved the band from termanation.Journey may-be Neals band but you would never know that since Neal would never open his mouth with anything or ever take charge of anything. And Neal took charge long enough to take his band back. Perry was a great, great singer who opened the door to commercial success. He needed Schon and Caine. They needed him. Together they did wonders. And "he hates Perry" is an overstatement. Band relationships are a myriad of emotions, highly complex.

Wouldn't even think of denying your statement. It's accurate. Neal needs a singer with a certain range and tonality in order to do the old catalog justice. He can't get a baritone to sing Faithfully. Perry set a standard and style with those songs that must be adhered to or the songs don't work. Hey, I wish I could find a singer like Perry, I'd snap him up in a heartbeat. I marvel at Perry's voice, it's a treasure. The creative atmosphere turns toxic when he and Schon are together. Can't work.

I am for making your dreams happen and no disrespect to all 3 of Perry's replacements but the band has not been the same since he left. Not being rude but honest, I never hear a Journey song on the radio and tv that has anyone other than Perry. The accolades came with him too. I just don't think you can replace someone, and the manner in which it was done does not sit well with a lot of fans. Imagine a reunion tour with Perry!!!! Sold out arenas, like it used to be.

Oh come on!!! Yes, Steve Perry is an incredible singer, but to make out that Journey should stop making music without him is horrendous. Revelation with Arnel is a spectacular album, an album that kills every other album released for the last decade at least. Neal, Jon, Dean and Ross are a truly amazing band, and with Arnel they are unstoppable. Yes, Steve Perry is my favourite, but Arnel is an extremely close second, and Steve Augeri next. Both Arnel and Steve A are powerhouse singers.

I have nothing against Arnel but he just does not do it for me or ever will. When a singer puts joy in my heart, and leaves me in a trance like state when hes done singing, then for me that singer is Mr Perry. Anyone that truly pays attention to what Neal says, since after all, it is HIS band not yours..as musicians in a WORKING world famous group, who were looking to maintain..the "legacy" sound that was what brought them into the lime light in the first place...they hired , the "sound" they were looking for, NOT a replacement for SP, and they'd tell you that. I will ALWAYS be a SP fan, but am also an SA, and AP fan, and fan of ANY member LUCKY enough to be brought into their fold...

While I have heard the comment "everyone is replaceable," and true in theory, you cannot replace the intangible qualities that a person has. Again, while a group of fans many have accepted new lead singers, a majority of fans cannot accept the premise. Perhaps it should have been handled differently. The fans fell in love with what was presented to us and what we chose. I totally agree with you as well that others like Cain, Rollie, Dunbar, Smith, Valory, etc are all very talented.

Not trying to be rude, but that's how the fans remember Journey. I guess even more frustration comes from the fact that we hear 2 singers (not counting Soto) who try and emulate Perry's voice. The message to the fans appears that we will call ourselves Journey and put a lead singer out there who sounds like Perry but he isn't. Perhaps another sound our a completely different direction would have been better served. You cannot just replace people.

T he reference of intervals since Perry's last solo cd's, I find quite interesting. Reading numerous comments, it is very evident that many fans await his new CD. Yes, even after 16 years, it is so worth it! Many if not most of the fans learned of Perry when he was with Journey. We have waited all these years and he has not been with them since 98. Finally, why do there have to be sides? Why couldn't it have been called something else after Perry left? The success of Journey came with Perry.

If that were the case, it would be called the "Neal Schon Show." I don't see it that way but rather a collaboration of talented artists. Albeit, Mr. Schon is very talented and in my opinion, one of the greatest players. It was the fans that chose Journey's success. We made our decision based on what we heard being presented to us. The fans want what they had. With the utmost respect, overwhelmingly, the fans want the Journey they chose many years ago.

Not that Perry was the only person in the band who mattered, but to paraphrase Neal Schon in his VH1 interview "the success of the band came with Perry." He was given the reigns." Journey became famous when he was the Frontman. It is his voice we recall with memories of our past. Accolades were achieved when Perry ws with Journey. They had a chemistry that cannot be duplicated. Second, I do not see it as "Neil's Band" either. It is a collaboration of all artists.

to diehardperryfan, for those of us that accept Journey today, it doesn't mean we've forgotten about Perry. I can understand Perry saying that it was a personal decision but he must also realize that many depend on the band for their income. It's his JOB to accept this responsibility. But I agree, surgery is always a serious matter. Second, these guys WANT to work. With Perry, I get the feeling that we'd still be waiting for that new Journey recording......

Third, Journey is a ROCK band and Perry was taking it into another direction that wasn't bad, I'll admit, but not what we as rock fans want. Perry's voice isn't what it was either. I'm not saying he can't sing. I believe he sings very, very well. He can still hit those high notes well but to go on tour and to do it night after night singing those classic tunes is a thing of the past. We love Perry and we do miss him but we also love Journey. At the rate Perry releases songs,........

this upcoming CD may be his last. I'm not trying to be funny. Look, he puts out a solo debut in 1984, followed with another in 1994, 2 best of CD's since then (nothing new in terms of material) and now may have a new one in Feb 2010. That's 10 years between the first 2 CD's and 16 years until the new one. Perry will be 61 by then. I would hate to wait for that long between Journey releases if that's the alternative. It's Neal's band, he wants to be active and it's his right. .......

There is nothing wrong with what either is doing. It's just that it is what they feel most comfortable doing. Not saying Perry is lazy, neither. He just enjoys his privacy. He KNOWS fans miss him and adore him. If music is really that important to him and his fans as well, I'm sure he would be more proactive with his output. I mean, it's not like he has a part time job or something. And if he resides or resided in Del Mar, it also tells me he isn't hurting financially. I like what Perry.....

Luchenzo, First of all, thanks for your well thought response and respectful overtone. I however do not see things as you do. I am a rock fan, very much a rock fan. I did not dislike the direction in which Journey was going. I have spent much time perusing comments on You Tube and other sites in which Journey fans from the 70's to current want Journey, with Perry, back again. When any person mentions Journey, synonymously, Perry is mentioned.

brought to Journey. But Journey is a rock band, 1st & foremost. Perry wasn't the only puzzle to the bands success. Cain, Schon and Rolie also had something to do with it as well. Including Dunbar, Smith and Valory and others to a certain extent. Anyways, I'm not here to argue but to reason the other side of this coin. As much as I can understand where you're coming from, we also need your side to understand where we're coming from. Times change, people change. It is what it is and we move on.

I mean no disrespect to anyone who has joined your band since the split. I get that you and Perry don't get a long for your own reasons and I am not sure that what we read is always true. But honestly, what if you were injured and couldn't perform? What if you were given the same ultimatum that was given to Steve? The band Journey had a new guitarist. That certainly wouldn't sit with the fans. I hope you guys can get together just one more time. Forget the past and let all ego's go.

For a lot of us it's that Journey was something magical that you, Steve, Jon, Ross and Steve S. gave us. For example, people generally have one true love in a lifetime. All the others after that person will never compare to your heart's true love. I guess you can go on but you can't be 100%, right? That's what a lot of the fans feel. Sure you can place another singer at Center Stage but our memories, love for you guys and your music will always be what turned us onto Journey.

Neal, I doubt you'll ever read this but I cannot except what has been done to Journey. I guess you can tell by my signon what I think. I have to say that I think you are awesome and can kick some booty when you play. I've been a fan since 77 and cannot bring myself to attend a show or buy a cd since the split. I hope you don't think because we love Perry it means we hate you. That's far from the truth. Honestly, it's that we love Journey.

that's why NEAL is better than VAI and the rest, because he doesnt do crazy shit, he plays guitar and music you can feel with a very expressive tone.
Steve Vai is a joke, nothing but spectacle, his music is boring as hell.
Satriani is a great player but lacks in writing good melodic songs, too much rock, LOVE THING and a couple others are amazing for sure, too bad he doesn't write more stuff like that.
so neal is the best of both world = the best.

I agree Neal is brilliant, but apart from that I think your view is a little absurd. Just because you don't feel Vai and Satriani are any good, doesn't mean they don't appeal to anyone.
Why not just appreciate Schon for who he is, and not for who Vai isn't if you catch my drift.
