The first selection the Mice orchestra perform is (middle section of) the Poet and Peasant Overture (Dichter und Bauer) by Franz von Suppe. The second piece is (finale of) the William Tell Overture [aka Lone Ranger theme] by Gioachino Rossini.
I've been looking for this for MONTHS! The cassette that had this on it got shredded by our defective player. This was easily my favourite cartoon ever. Thank you so much for uploading this.
I fucking love this, but i've been looking for the song that the mice play when they go postal on hep cat's ass, if anyone can tell me, i'd be pretty fucking happy, thx ^_^
@Irishdrunkenpyro725 Sorry for double posting, but I since I know the answer --- William Tell Overture, it's what inspired my search to find this and watch it again. ;)
The Pied Piper Overture is made up by the man who compiled this cartoon. I know its a great tune and I wish it existed. Maybe youll have to compose it yourself.
This was originally released in February 1949... Seymouir Kneitel was good at directing any Paramount cartoon featuring a musical theme {Popeye's "Me Musical Nephews" (1942) and "Symphony In Spinach" (1948), and Herman & Katnip's "Mousetro Herman" (1956)}...
What's the name of the song the mice were orchestrating before ol' cat bugged them with his double bass? That's one of my favorite songs in any cartoon thus far.
Thumbs up if your watching this in 2011 ! :)

By the way, Does Pied Piper Overture really exist? I've searching for a while, with no apparent results. :(

@Aleph20 -- Nope...although quite a few artists have recorded pop songs called "Pied Piper". I like Donovan's, myself....

One of the funniest of all classic cartoons is still just as funny now as it was years ago. Wish I could say the same for others.

The mice were playing the "Poet and the Peasant Overture" by Franz Von Suppe, 'centrilius'...
