  • Hell yes.

  • let's just make one

  • *Construction's Complete!*

  • *Construction's Complete!*

  • WAS HE INSIDE?!?!?!

  • RED ALERT !!!!!

  • I've not seen a new scientist vid in like 6 months and it's still 360p? Why?

  • Just imagine a Tesla guitar plugged to this thing!

  • I want !!!!

  • So?

I've been constructing Tesla Towers since 1996.

  • @MagicAccent nobody cares.

  • @ParaSwarm

    You don't get it.

  • Reminds me of Red Alert!

  • Wohooo Top Comments is mine!

  • Rare educational experience??

  • Quickly, someone blow up a power plant before that thing takes us all out!

  • this must have produced so much RF interference

    >:[

  • Technically this is not a Faraday cage since it's charged, but it can easily be shown that the field inside a uniformly charged spherical shell is 0.

  • Is this a giant tesla tower to transmit free electricity for everyone in the world or a wasteful advertising stunt?

  • an interesting video with a description? I never thought i'd see this from new scientist again. They have stayed their banishment from my youtube subscriptions for the moment

  • Glad I dont foot that the electric bill XD

  • New Scientist? There is nothing new about this. It is pretty cool though!

  • What was the educational stuff that they learned...? Plus, Red Alert comments are epic win on this video. The first Red Alert was the best...

  • I want him to touch it !

  • Rubber shoes in motion.

  • Ten thousand volts, coming up.

  • Let the juice flow.

  • Just like standing in the tip of a giant penis

  • So what's this educational experience...? If you're not telling me about it, it probably wasn't worth the energy.

  • @5THunderlord Faraday Cage

  • uhm no. kthxbai

  • Tesla envisioned using something like this to charge the earth's atmosphere so anyone could have access to electricity. Instead of electrical outlets all our appliances would have receivers, and there would be no need for batteries! The plan was scrapped because people were LITERALLY afraid that he was messing around in god's domain.

  • SCIENCE FTW

  • Soviets likes this

  • Maybe - just maybe such a display of raw power will 'spark' (excuse the pun) an interest in the surrounding youth in SCIENCE ! One can only hope.

  • OH NO!! IT DIDNT SAY "Do not attempt this at home!" Thats it I'm off to build my own!!

  • This was pretty awesome visually.

  • Can't they get a camera in there?

  • I like big bolts and I can not lie

  • People should've invested more money with Tesla. He was one of a kind, basically the Mozart of electricity.

  • Re-por-tink

  • Birdy can't tweet in a Faraday cage.

  • Finally a bug zapper for Japanese monster movies. Mothra is Toast!

  • oh, please make an wardenclyffe tower again, please!!!

  • ok ok that's great and all but...where's my prism tower?

  • Fantastic! Where is it?

  • ...And a lot of passing birds & insects died that day

  • @ubersteigen They started it up at night, most birds and insects wouldn't be out.

  • @Markgb3

The night belongs to bats. But since this is a high frequency device, bats will probarbly be able to tell from the terrible high frequency noise that its something to stay away from.

  • too short the video...

  • iToasterman says "its amps that kill, not voltage."... to that I say HA! cuz that is the stupidest thing that people are ever taught! w w w.youtube.com/watch?v=8xONZcBJh5A is a vid about this. It explains it very well. just put the w's together.

  • @compaq1275 that address doesnt exist

  • @Beefcakes155 type "afrotechmods It's not the volts that kill you, it's the amps" into youtubes search bar; it should be the first video

  • @compaq1275 Yea nice non functional link. Il lick the electrodes of a high voltage transformer at 20k+ volts when it has 0 amps running through.

  • @compaq1275 I found the video. Its based off dc and the idea that the power supply is outputing any ammount of amps. Not every power supply puts out amps. look at some ac / dc ones, they don't put out amps

  • @iToasterman um..if it's not capable of putting out amps, then it's not putting out electricity.Amperage is a measurement of electrical flow. You need a better meter.

  • @stayinstock Actually people have done it in the past. btw, isn't ac safer then dc?

  • @iToasterman no they haven't. Amperage and voltage are much like a river, the wider the river, the slower the flow. It's much the same with electricity. The higher the voltage, the less flow it takes to create a given amount of energy. No matter what voltage you have, there must be some amount of flow for the electricity to create heat or movement or any other form of energy.I can cut a wire clean and say there is no amperage...until i connect it to something.

  • @stayinstock Draw 0.01 ma. Done.

  • @stayinstock its more like a water hose

  • largest Tesla coil shown on shortest vid

  • Largest Tesla coil in existence? Challenge. Accepted.

  • To all you people who think this is dangerous, its not, they are in a feridite cage at the top and its amps that kill, not voltage.

  • @iToasterman

Its a Faradays cage, named after Michael Faraday. He figured out that a volume of space will be free of electromagnetic fields if surrounded by a sufficiently good conductor. The guy is surrounded by metal, so he is safe. That would even be the case for high current, in munich they put people into a faradays cage and run enough current and voltage through to create a 3 foot DC lightning, which, unlike the AC lightning in this vid, requires serious amperes.

  • @kurtilein3 Ty I forgot how to spell it and it was late :P

  • see, this is the kind of science i like.

  • lets talk about energy conservation...

  • @Slacking02 this draws like 120 volts tops and steps it up..

  • @Slacking02 Surely it was worth the energy to see an assortment of pixels change color in a certain configuration, right?

  • @Ganahim that can be said about everything

  • @Slacking02 People are. Not all scientists and engineers have to focus on the same thing at the same time. Dick.

  • @Slacking02 screw energy conservation.

  • @Slacking02 I care less about energy convervation, and more about energy source conversion

  • @Slacking02 high voltage LOW current.

  • Spawns?

  • @Darkfire889 "Give birth to;" "produce," etc.

  • @Kasei87 Well I was thinking it really didn't fit with lightning.

  • @Darkfire889 If you've played enough video games, it fits with everything.

  • Dear santa...

  • sigh.... and yet what did we learn here?

  • Red Alert is now a reality?

  • @BO3000B I clicked on this video to type your words. Thanks for beating me to it.

  • @BO3000B next is the Tesla tank !!

  • @BO3000B

    Red Alert 1 FTW!

  • @BO3000B next ... Tesla Troopers :D

    then prism towers :)

  • @BO3000B in what way? Tesla Coils weren't dreamed up by the C&C games!

  • @Destro7000

    True.

  • @BO3000B Always has been.

  • @BO3000B The Tesla coil from red alert is ancient technology. In fact the original Red Alert used only old technology, it wasn't until the newer versions came out that they began to make stuff up.

  • @BO3000B Tesla coils has been a reality since Tesla himself invented them <3

  • yay first.
