an interesting video with a description? I never thought i'd see this from new scientist again. They have stayed their banishment from my youtube subscriptions for the moment
Tesla envisioned using something like this to charge the earth's atmosphere so anyone could have access to electricity. Instead of electrical outlets all our appliances would have receivers, and there would be no need for batteries! The plan was scrapped because people were LITERALLY afraid that he was messing around in god's domain.
The night belongs to bats. But since this is a high frequency device, bats will probarbly be able to tell from the terrible high frequency noise that its something to stay away from.
iToasterman says "its amps that kill, not voltage."... to that I say HA! cuz that is the stupidest thing that people are ever taught! w w w.youtube.com/watch?v=8xONZcBJh5A is a vid about this. It explains it very well. just put the w's together.
@compaq1275 I found the video. Its based off dc and the idea that the power supply is outputing any ammount of amps. Not every power supply puts out amps. look at some ac / dc ones, they don't put out amps
@iToasterman um..if it's not capable of putting out amps, then it's not putting out electricity.Amperage is a measurement of electrical flow. You need a better meter.
@iToasterman no they haven't. Amperage and voltage are much like a river, the wider the river, the slower the flow. It's much the same with electricity. The higher the voltage, the less flow it takes to create a given amount of energy. No matter what voltage you have, there must be some amount of flow for the electricity to create heat or movement or any other form of energy.I can cut a wire clean and say there is no amperage...until i connect it to something.
Its a Faradays cage, named after Michael Faraday. He figured out that a volume of space will be free of electromagnetic fields if surrounded by a sufficiently good conductor. The guy is surrounded by metal, so he is safe. That would even be the case for high current, in munich they put people into a faradays cage and run enough current and voltage through to create a 3 foot DC lightning, which, unlike the AC lightning in this vid, requires serious amperes.
@BO3000B The Tesla coil from red alert is ancient technology. In fact the original Red Alert used only old technology, it wasn't until the newer versions came out that they began to make stuff up.
Hell yes.

Technically this is not a Faraday cage since it's charged, but it can easily be shown that the field inside a uniformly charged spherical shell is 0.

Is this a giant tesla tower to transmit free electricity for everyone in the world or a wasteful advertising stunt?
