Went through about 3 hours of figuring out what I was doing wrong, the ipsw error, might be becuase your not using the newest 0.9.5b5-5 redsnow. make sure u use 4.0 and not 4.02! ipod1,2_4.0_8A293 (2nd gen only). About all I can say, if I'm not correct, then correct me.

I'm totally going to do this for my iPod 2G, but can someone please tell me what is 'Cidia'? And does it just come with the jail break or do I have to get that separately? I'm assuming it's like an app store but for jail break apps.

@willplez cydia is an app that comes with the jailbreak and lets you download items that can enable you to do more with your ipod and get more apps or certain things. Install0us is the jailbroken app store not cydia

Okay, I’m sure I clicked the right links for my iTouch 2G on my macbook book pro OS X Version 10.6.4, but it keeps telling me “Unable to recognize specified IPSW”. I have downloaded the firmware iPod2,1_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw­, and did option-click to restore my 2g ipod itouch. For some reason redsn0w still wont recognize my specified IPSW that I have download. when I jailbreak my ipod touch 2g with os4 everything goes good until the actual jailbreak. At first it works (goes to white screen and installs first part), but then when it gets to initial exploit or sumthing like that it says waiting for reboot, and my ipod starts up as normal. It wont actually do the ipod loading screen part. Anyone help?

You leave out alot of details. For one Your iPod SHOULD be restored first to factory setting through itunes. Also iTunes shouldnt be open during the Jailbreaking process. Theres some clarification for others
