  • I am a Christian, and I completely understand what Lennon meant.

  • what did you eat for lunch?hahahaha

  • The South is about 50-100 years behind the rest of the country. It was always that way.

  • If there is anyone out there who still doesn't understand why The Beatles stop touring, watching this video is a good begining. What possibly could they benifit from touring? More Bullshit from cops and fans? Death predictions and threats....like M-80's blown on stage? Screw that, us fans were lucky they toured as long as they did. Sgt. Pepper's Lp proved the point!

  • 6:18 demon baby baptist child eating taffy or ham, Lol!

  • groupies are silly

  • Johns statement is basically, would you go to a Beatle conert or to church if they happened at the same time.

  • Lennon broke ground. Religious fanatics are just as fucked up today as ever and it's truly embarressing.

  • george: who is he? who is this guy? classic george

  • 0:53 ctincinatti!

  • Comment removed

  • Justin Beiber said he was bigger than Muhammad.

  • I laughed so hard when John apologized to the monks!

  • I think The Beatles should of just " flowen over " Alabama to their next concert. Who needs all that crap, anyway ??

  • That baby is Liam Gallagher...No wonder he was so influenced ;)

  • I don't agree with John (I love him tho), but America REALLY OVER REACTED about the whole thing... and the sad thing is that this happened in the country I live in..... 32 years before I was born....

  • @BobTheRecordGuy

You say "but please take your religious debate elsewhere"...DO U SEE THE CROWDS OF SOUTHERN BAPTISTS? Obviously, this vid was about how the religious mob, is so intolerant. Especially, in the 60's. John Lennon was a genius.

And that is shown IN his obvious statement, that they were more popular than Jesus, to teenagers! More kids wanted to listen to the Beatles than the pastors. That pissed the southern, religious right OFF! more $ was going to a pop group, than them!

  • ...oh, and then he gets killed 14 years later by a ex-Texan adult child of an abusive military dad turned born-again-christian mental patient. Fate is not without a sense of irony.

  • "...seems a little bit silly to be in America, and for none of them to mention Vietnam, as if nothing were happening..." This grade school educated 26-year old chap singularly points out America's social ideology in a single sentence (with all of the acerbic wit of Lewis Carroll).....while all the flap about 'Jesus ' distracts from REAL horrors (as opposed to the imaginary apocalypse of corrupted youth) NOTHING has changed in America in 45 years. The REAL Jesus would be proud of you, John!

  • What the FUCK!

    That fucking reporter.

    Had the chance.

To speak with Paul Friggin' McCartney.

    And he asks him,

"What did you eat for lunch?"

You CAN'T be serious. No wonder the poor lads wanted to stop touring.

  • Dumb fucking YANK SLAAAAGS!!!

  • you mean United States, not America,. All who live in The American Continent are Americans. ok angloamericans?

  • "Is that anything to cry over?"

  • @ around 1 min in, reporter seemed creepy ' why are you cryin' honey ' when talking to fan.

  • @tjpell68 I didn't think it was creepy at all. That's the way older folks in the south talk to kids.

  • george looks mad

  • people trip so hard about small things...john lennons words about Jesus were totally taken out of context

  • Lmfao

Look at John' s face on @2:59

  • In all their interviews George always looks freaked out when the others say something

  • "WHAT DID YOU HAVE FOR LUNCH?!!"

    egh, creepy.

  • If you see this as a story about evil religion versus 'the truth teller', you're missing the story. Lennon could have made a similar remark about Vietnam and got a similar bad reaction from the USA; the same thing would have happened. Why didn't he? It is known that he was already opposed to the war. I believe he didn't because 'it would be bad for business'. I think he thought religion was soft target; I;'m sure he was surprised to find out different.

  • Beatles and even John's solo work (SOME of it) but thru age I now understand that pop stars in general are only entertainers & when you read too much into pop culture it's easy to get in trouble. Most pop stars know as much about politics and philosophy as anybody else, they have no 'special insight'. John's biggest mistake was forgetting that, and his misguided belief that he was an undiscovered genius. If you wanna comment, comment on that; but please take your religious debate elsewhere.

  • He sold out on this story, by trying to back out of a statement that he believed was true (his hatred of religion was consistent, throughout all his writings). If he really believed it, why back off? For the money. He was dishonest by trying to blame the media, as if he was misquoted or taken out of context. Read the original quotes- he wasn't. A similar thing was in 'Revolution' - 'count me out' / 'count me in' - he wanted it both ways - man of peace, guerilla fighter. I actually love the

  • Obviously John had the right to his opinion but so do the religious people who decried him. What I don't like is that people still think of Lennon as an intellectual giant when he was really just clever (and of course, a great singer and a good songwriter); and as having with steadfast beliefs and the courage of his convictions, when in fact he was wishy washy and 'sold out' as often as not. He sold out his 'bad boy' image when he gave up his leather for that dumb collarless suit.

  • John made a sarcastic comment. Okay, that's was John's personality. But his personality also is he was a bit of a coward (any reading about his younger life shows this character flaw as obvious). If he really meant to make a statement he should have stood by it. Instead he tried to back off it by saying that he didn't really say it (he did) or that it was taken out of context (it wasn't). He was just trying to be his usual smartass self and portray himself as intellectual and got called on it.

  • I feel so sorry for that poor girl!!! :,(

  • Very weird. England is much more conservative than USA, but this joke got virtually unnoticed in England but USA, as always, made a huge hype just because of a joke.

  • @drrobertoboogie97 It's because brittish people understand the joke which is more than just cake in the face or American funniest Homemovies , Americans don't.

  • @drrobertoboogie97 I think the USA is much more conservative than the UK. Sociologically the US seems quite slow , I guess because it's historically so isolated. The UK has always had fresh ideas coming in from Europe and from the commonwealth and seems more receptive to new ideas than the US. Particularly the South. Lennon was proved correct in what he said, Christianity is almost dead in the UK now, especially amongst the young.

  • @obugger I know. I was just satirizing people who said that. And I'm very happy

  • @obugger John Lennon was right in the end? Over 60% of Americans still identify themselves as Christians. Of course you probably think that is terrible. And as a European, you know nothing about the American south other than what you've been taught through the media. Why don't you actually visit and meet some real southern people? You'd be pleasantly surprised.

  • @alabaster30- I was speaking of the UK, as Lennon was in his original interview. The US is only 60% Christian? I'd have thought it'd be nearer 80%. Still too high for my liking though & it puts me off visiting. I have known some Southerners & very nice they were too, however they were not keen on experiences, cultures and practices which differed from those they grew up with. I fully accept what you say about visiting, the Southerners I've met may not be representative & the media may be wrong.

  • bank of england in 1694 by %8 interest established by bankers as private

company .........................later they owned 1us bank 2nd us bank and federal reserves adjointed with blackpope and his jesuitjews wellll i wonder if beatles were intellectual enough to depict such issues when you compare them with some of their time authors poets activists but hey judeeeeee it was music they were a kosher product marketted in usa inentionally to manupulate american youth like flouride

  • i love Jesus with all my heart, and he was,is,and will be more popular than The Beatles,, but if The Beatles weren't so popular, nobody would have made such a huge deal about what John said. If some homeless guy on the street would have said that, they would've just ignored him completely

  • aww poor gurls D:

  • @greenwich1754 Trust me, when I become a legal adult and graduate from college, I WILL.

  • Lennon/McCartney compositions > The whole bible

  • @LasgalenOsten you got to be kidding! That's ignorance nothing more. Have you ever read the Bible?

  • Well... That's true.. We shall never know. But hopefully he did trust Jesus as his Lord and Saviour!

  • AMEN! The Old-time religion!

  • This whole thing just gave me more reasons to dislike my country... especially the south...

  • @PurplePinkOrange10 You're free to leave to the country of your choice

  • @PurplePinkOrange10 Well jeez thanks! Don't you have any love for any of us down here? I'm shocked.

  • @WeakBrute your a cunt

  • John Lennon! Your burning in hell now

  • @Duggars14 fock you!! judgemental!!!!

  • @Duggars14 We don't know that for sure, what if he repented and accepted Christ before he died? I am not saying he did, but I am not gonna say he didn't either.

  • FUCK THE RELIGION. THEY ARE *STILL* BIGGER THAN JESUS.

  • @Malinishna Nobody is bigger than JESUS.Today EMINEM is more popular than lennon.lennon will go and vanish in history.nobody will listen his music in the future, but JESUS will stay forever

  • @Malinishna Nobody is bigger than JESUS.Today EMINEM is more popular than lennon. It's a fact. lennon will go and vanish in history.nobody will listen his music in the future, but JESUS will stay forever. "fuck the religion" it's damn blasphemy. let GOD Forgive you this satanistic words

  • @TheKing2033 O RLY?? Firstly, I wanna let you know that I do believe in God. Sometimes. Secondly, it was *rush of emotions*, my words. Not for your dearest Jesus, but for those freaks who made John apologize for nothing (IMHO). Thiiiirdly, believe me, people will listen his music through 50 years, through 100 years and always... Lennon's music (exactly the same as The Beatles) is ALREADY classic. And it will live forever. *next comment*

  • @TheKing2033 *continuation* Maybe Eminem is more popular for some people. For me & my entourage, John is popular. John said "All you need is love", he wanted to give peace a chance. And what Eminem wants?(dunno, really) John was kind and warm person with beautiful soul, that's why his music will live forever. And the last... I don't care that my words could be "blasphemy", tbh. Really. :) I want to say, that I believe in GOD, not in Jesus, Allah, Buddha, etc.

  • @Malinishna I have to burst your bubble. Jesus is the son of God. Why just the Father, is the Son not good enough

  • @WeakBrute Excuse me?..

  • I think they were so angry 'cause what John said obviously was true. Did all those Beatle fans go to church and screamed "God!" when the ceremonies were held?I don't think so. they felt guilty for liking Beatles more than God(s)and took it out on Beatles. How disappointing

  • Religion has such potential of being something beautifull, but some dickheads take it too serious. i don't believe in god but i tolerate people who do, why should it not be the same if it were the other way round

  • You know, this must have some degree of truth to it. If it didn't wouldn't their record sales have gone down?.......

  • All this happened before I was even born, but still it embarrasses me that it happened in the country I live in. Religion is a horrible poison, and I wish America would get over it.

  • @SubconsciousGatherer Religion = poison? gimme a break, USA is more religious than Iran, but USA is also more tolerant in regard to which religion one chooses to practice.

I am a Christian myself and I will say I appreciate when Christians who do protest at concerts go about telling attendees they are not bad people for attending whatever show/concert.such as Marilyn Manson.

  • @RPM1978 "Religion = poison?" Yes, exactly. I'd say that any system which tells you from childhood that you are sick, and demands you to be well under threat of eternal punishment is an abominable system of fascism. I also think that to claim the existence of an imaginary being who watches us all (yet neglects to reveal itself) is not only harmful, but an insult to all human intelligence. Believe what you believe, but don't expect respect or a free pass for such nonsense until you can prove it.

  • @RPM1978 You need to read your bible to understand how intolerant your evil religion is. Bible thumpers have difficulty in detecting reality from fantasy.

  • @SubconsciousGatherer Religion, yes can be bad. Jesus, no.

  • @greenwich1754 Under Old Testament law (God), you only had to die once if you fell out of favor with him. Under New Testament law (Hello, Jesus!) you not only die, but if you don't worship him you're brought back to life, then tortured forever, without end, amen.

    Nice guy, that Jesus.

  • @SubconsciousGatherer Not so sure about that - The Old Testament constantly refers to a place where the dead go, and although not painted as heaven or hell, it did not seem to be a place where people would want to be. Jesus said there is a heaven and hell, and He is the "get out of jail free" card. I'd say that's pretty nice!

  • @greenwich1754 Regardless of what that ancient book says, there's no evidence at all that a god of any kind exists (so we can reject those silly claims immediately!) Let's live in the real world, shall we? Honesty is a beautiful and noble thing.

  • @SubconsciousGatherer I've always thought that those who do not believe in God, in effect, have a stronger "faith" than those who do. No evidence? Explain the stars, how eyesight works, how a seed grows to a tree, etc, etc, etc. I find it more difficult to explain (i.e. have stronger "faith") this world we live in without God, than with one. I can even understand people not accepting the biblical God (I do), but no God at all? Yikes!

  • @greenwich1754 Simply put, it does not require an ounce of faith to not believe in something for which there is no evidence. Can I explain why the universe is the way it is? No, but that's not my job, nor do I assume that I need to know in order to be happy. It is the person who says "A god did it!" that has the explaining to do, not me. "God" is an excuse, not an answer.

  • Hi @SubconsciousGatherer ,I would like to say, " Religion is only poisonus if it's interrupted the wrong way, a good example is this," if you have a heart full of love you will see things in a loving manner but, if you see things in a fire and brimstone way well then we're all doomed.

It's not the religion part that is bad it's the interrupter that's bad.

  • So, Jesus participated in a popularity contest with the Beatles. Who won then? How rediculous!

  • @antiseptic309

Excuse me but just because I don't belive in ur Jesus doesn't make me arrogant. For me jesus is a caracter from a book nothing more.If I'm arrogant so are u! Always when an non Jesus beliver give his own opinion ubout jesus and ur religion u guys always think thats personal attack and thats why the world is so fucked up. I agree with John and u can't change my opinion. I don't wanna argue with u because argue with religious people is stupid 4 me. Have a nice day. Bye

  • @antiseptic309 John was right about that The Beatles are bigger than jesus...thats because The Beatles were real people and jesus is just a caracter from a book!

  • @antiseptic309 What exactly did John Lennon or The Beatles say that was "arrogant"?

  • they cant say one word without it getting twisted, mustv been hard for them to say anything at all. as amazing as the beatles are, we're all human, we make mistakes. they did too, its called FORGIVE AND FORGET....let it be man!!!

  • the police in Menphis at that time are dicks leaving heart broken fans screw you Menphis

  • “Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.” ;-)

  • 1. John didn't say The Beatles better than Jesus! Just more popular. I guess it's sounded like, "We're bigger than Jesus".

    2. There's 2 categories of IDIOTS in this question. Beatlemaniacs and Christians. They are just fanatics!

    3. What about John he lived his life with his head on. He didn't believe in stupid lies in which many people believe and fight for it!

    4. What about Jesus he's never founded any religion! His "disciples" had never seen him they were born after his death. Historical fact!

  • JOHN > JESUS!

  • Religion is not the problem. Ignorance is the problem. Ignorance exists in politics, science, and other fields, not religion exclusively. Religious ignorance is only one part of the bigger problem, which is ignorance.

In America, we have the right to seek and worship a higher power (or not), more than most, if not all other countries. That’s a fact, Jack!

If you’re so embarrassed by America, there’s the door. I can hook you up with a free ticket to the Mid-East through my Uncle Sam.

  • @AtomicFuse1 YOU > STUPID

  • @AtomicFuse1 John = John... -_- actually understand what john said man

  • I hope someone told John about the love that Jesus has for him before he died.

  • I don't know if I should think John was being an asshole, or if this was blown out of proportion.

  • Reporter: "......what differences... any at all?" And Lennon opens his mouth in a mocking way... Sad.

  • The Beatles wanted to express their opposition to the war in vietnam during this interview but were warned by Brian Epstein not to.

  • @dragonnelite Lol yeah Raptor jesus! FTW!!!!

  • Go home Beatles? They were just jealous.

  • Pity John's flippant remark was taken totally out of context. Meanwhile, it still holds true today, but most people can't see that. Very sad how the boys looked so guarded as tho they felt they couldn't say ANYTHING without the press turning it into something else. God Bless, John for having the courage to say what he felt in this interview. It's true: we're supposed to have freedom of speech, but where's the freedom if nobody can speak their mind w/out being attacked? RIP, John. I hear u.

  • Does anyone know what the girl actually says when the interviewer says "Now is that anything to cry about?"

  • @minnagful "it is if you have been waiting 2 years" yes, a very american thing to say

  • @T4teens Awwww, I don't think that's so much an AMERICAN thing to say as it is a TEENAGE thing to say! Considering all the times I felt like my life was over given some event that turned out not the way I wanted it to when I was younger, I can understand her. Yes, I'm American, but I've also been a teenager and everything is pretty much all or nothing at that stage! :)

  • @T4teens Thanks!

  • Haha gee I wonder what was more fun, going to a Beatles concert or that religious concert at the end. Fucking Christian Conservatives.

  • DUMB SLUTS!

  • snakes

  • 2:30, how the hell are the Beatles communists?

  • @predatormax16 Certainly you have heard of John Lenin, Ringo Stalin and Paul Marx-Artney

  • @leveetator nice joke. not.

  • @predatormax16 They're from Socialist Britain, and so it's the same thing! ;)

  • They always have this KKK thing around it?

    Now that's more obscene.

  • Paul freakin' McCartney is talking to you through a window, and what do you ask him? "What did you have for lunch?" Surprise---the window closes. Each of the reporter's questions is retarded.

  • John is Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • americans aare fuckiin SPECIAL arnt they?

  • Religious people are pure dick heads who knock on ya door to bother you by talking about some fairytale scruff who is meant to be some kind of god

  • saved him from what?

and why does one person get to just die for every person ever born?

  • what does John say at the very end? It sounds like owl...

  • @sweetmelaniee

harold, must be the interviewer's name :)

  • @JonathanHawes94 That's Harold Wilson, "Mr. Wilson" the "Taxman".

  • JOHN LENNON > JESUS

  • @paddymeliayesyes < stupid :))

  • Man john and Paul do kind off come as jerks.

  • @mountainmanwv86 its called scouse witt

    something you yanks don't understand!

  • @paddymeliayesyes No its called being an ass! John lennon was a smart man and a talented musician but he was a jerk! And fuck you british cunt I'm tired off people from the U.K hating on america! If it wasn't for us the queen would be speaking german!

  • @mountainmanwv86 The Queen is German.

  • @LukeG118 you know what the fuck I mean you smart ass! I don't care because based on birth rates your country will be a muslim country in 50 years!

  • @mountainmanwv86 Well, our country is culturally diverse and that's one of the things that makes it great. I'm not a racist against Muslims, so I couldn't care less, to be honest.

  • @LukeG118 look at history bud, islam is not a religion but a cult! If you knew what the hell was in there little fucked up book then you would know what I mean!

  • @mountainmanwv86 Right... Well, you'd be surprised how much I know about the Qur'an and the religion itself.

  • Whoa to those fool pharisees who decided to go to the revivalist rally instead of the boys concert. I'm LMAO at those poor bastards that gave up their seats to go sing hymns with the KKK. Even Jesus might have laughed at such idiots, not to mention the music people burned or threw away.Your all HYPOCRITES, LAWYERS and TAX COLLECTORS!!! HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH!!!!!

  • It still stands today that if you're a Christian young man, you're finely dressed with a decent haircut, or perhaps military style haircut. Anyone who has long hair or listens to the Beatles has psychological problems and should talk to a couselor. Then as they are healing they should seek the blood of the ultimate savior Christ. Christ will make them decent again and they will want to cut their hair and be finely dressed young men of society.

  • Dude in the so called bible it does say adam and eve not adam and steve faggots

  • @44182blink BRILLIANT! if only you knew how gay that sounds. if only :))

  • George said it spot on when he was talking about the DJ Tommy Charles' "stunt".The youngest one of them all,yet most mature.

  • How someone that like Jimmy Page can not apreciate the music of the beatles??? :$

  • @TheIveet - its an easy answer..........because it Pages choice not to. Just like its your opinion to think the Beatle rule.

  • The Beatles rules¡¡¡

  • @TheIveet - Beatles rule nothing...the beatles are no more......and never ever can be. Since their are only 2 of them left........

  • @TheIveet -Beatles rule nothing¡¡¡

  • @rugbyoholic you don't actually exist

  • Comment removed

  • @skint0n0minted -Hahaahahha....poor messed up feeble minded little fag boy. You are so out of your mind....talking and arguing with yourself. Remember...I do not exsist, hence I cannot be gay but only a figment of your imgagination. But in your subconsciousness you have created a conflict with yourself....so you do not have to face the pervertedness and shame of being gay..hahahahahahaha 1 second ago

  • @rugbyoholic Loose that crutch of religion and then you can talk about feeble minds, lol. Grow up already.

  • @apestaartje321 hmm, what religion? What crutch should i have then? Humanism, Paganism, atheisism, darwinism, marxism, Naziism, selfism, alcoholism, sexism, drugism, Beatleism or any other "ism"? And who said I was religous? Or did you just assume without knowledge? Grow up already? Yes.

  • @rugbyoholic Why I assumed you were religious?

"You do not believe in God because he condemns your pervertedness for your love of men!!"

That sort of thing. And I don't care what crutch you choose, but it would be healthier for you to choose one that doesnt involve skydaddy's who hate homosexuals.

  • @apestaartje321 hahaha.......oh how easy to pull the wool over the eyes of people like you! Cause I write on "something" you think u know ALL about me. How clever. I suppose if i explained to you what is the meaning of E=MC² you would think I was a scientist. I know of lots of things.......but it doesn't of necessity means "I'am or believe in" it......oh so clever hahahaha

  • @apestaartje321 ha oh so clever! Cause I write on "something" you think u know ALL about me. How clever. I suppose if i explained to you what is the meaning of E=MC² you would think I was a scientist. I know of lots of things, but it doesn't of necessity means "I'am or believe in" it......oh so clever ha

  • @rugbyoholic What in the flying fuck are you rambling about.

  • @apestaartje321 HA..I am sorry, didn't mean to talk over your understanding. Maybe I should have used smaller words or talked slower so you could have understood. Lets try this agian, now pay attention this time....if you still cannot understand maybe ask your mommy for help...hahahaha

  • @apestaartje321 then i said.....do not assume anything by what I have written.....just because I write about religion ( or any other topic ), doesn't mean I am religious or believe in religion. You get it now???? or should i explain it one more time......talk about feeble minds...hahahaha!

  • @apestaartje321 Now u said,............ "Why I assumed you were religious?

"You do not believe in God because he condemns your pervertedness for your love of men!!" That sort of thing".................... are you with me so far or should i explain agian.hahahaha

  • @apestaartje321 and here is other assumption based on lack of wisdom or knowledge. Where did I say in any of my comments "I hated homosexuals"...looking through the glass darkly?? Looking for something that is not there?? Do i need to explain this a second time for you also....hahaha

  • that's why I hate the church and religion¡¡¡

The Beatles rules¡¡¡¡ no matter what¡

  • @TheIveet - so........what do the Beatles exactly rule??? They have been no more since 1970. Maybe church and religion hates you too???

  • @rugbyoholic erm they were and still are the biggest band of all time. I hope church and religion hate me, because im not gullerball enough to fall for that fairytale shit, religion is insane if you think about it, people dedicate their lives to something they've never see, heard or had an contact with EVER hahahaha it's pathetic. and to top it all they think theres an invisible man living in the sky watching us.

  • @skint0n0minted - Beatles are the biggest band of all - times yes....in your opinion. Everyone else in this world is free to think for themselves who or what is the best of all-times is.

  • @skint0n0minted - you call people "Insane.......cause..people dedicate their lives to something they've never see, heard or had an contact with EVER ". But you have never seen the Beatles in person or had contact with them in any form, yet you praise them. You read articles about him and believe every word of it whether it is true or false. So you too are gullable, believing things not seen in person only from testimonies of others. But thats ok....to each is own

  • @rugbyoholic ive met and seen Paul in real life, i think you're right John never existed with every photo and video i've seen someone edited him for sure.......

  • @rugbyoholic haha so stupid, The Beatles with a short career have been the most succesful band and influential of all times, but of course for people ignorant in music is difficult to understand, mmm i don't care if the church or religion hate me, because I don't believe in it, so fuck you with your stupid coments¡¡¡ jaja how people can believe in god if they can't see him?...

  • @TheIveet - ahhhhh......poor baby......did i hurt your little feelings???? And such bad language...I bet your parents are really proud of you!!! My comments are only stupid because you are so short sighted, febble minded to understand deep things. But its ok....Christ died for people just like you Cuddles, whether you accept this fact or not. Just stay in denial....I do not mind...... hahahahahahah
