My younger brother recommended this to me. He was about ten years old at the time and obsessed with the foreign Godzilla films so you can imagine why I thought it would suck. I ended up being blown away. This movie is so different than any other monster movie. It doesn't focus on the destruction of a city with the goal of killing the monster in mind. It's a lot more complex than that and those people who are offended at the anti-American messages need to get over themselves.

Anyway, I saw the movie and the special effects are great. There is a river close to my home that is disgustingly murky, almost red with chemical wastes. I wouldn't be surprised if a toxic monster jumps out of it one day.

@InThe11thDimension The Yellow thing, I believe that it's just some lame solution of the government to kill the monster. In fact, it's not that harmful and obviously can't kill the monster

They keep the secret because it would be a shame if people find out the American soldier who fought with the monster died not because of the virus - but due to a shock in the surgery. They still have hope of finding a virus somewhere in Gangdu's brain - that's why they did that.

this film is one of the kind, it's not really about awesome monster or ass-kicking heroism you see in your everyday monster movie. It's about regular folks just struggling to survive and save their loved one, the failure of huge ass bureaucracy, Korean-American relationship and more. You don't see those things then you must be blunt. Check out other films by this director, he's really good at storytelling.

I love this because it has monster, real-life drama, action, comedy, international involvement/has-english-ppl, science-related, etc. I don't like drama much since i don't like crying but this one is good since the drama and comedy are balanced and played at the right scenes.
