Borah jones. I;m really not "pissy", she has a competent voice, but its is devoid of variety or emotional range, she just makes everything sound monotonous and uninspired. If you've heard one norah jones song, you have really heard them all. She just doesn't do anything but slow, and "soulful", but without any real soul. Its just blahhh...
Let's face it: she's got an excellent, soulful voice and does a great cover. I'm a Wilco fan myself, but there's no need for anybody to get pissy about this - she nails it.
@FidoDido1980 that corrs song was saying what my heart was feeling at the time...thanks ahole my mother died in the middle corrs concert you insensitive jerk. oh man...please be my nemesis...i love psuedo echo individuals....oh drat i cant even take a piss at a wilco concert without this jerk and his know way know how attitude.

nice lookin chick with terrific voice covers great song: how can anyone complain about this. get hold of yourselves. try not to be an asshole all the time. this is nice. enjoy things sometimes. see beauty, be pleasant, accept others. don't be yourself -- be someone a little nicer.
Nora is playing a nylon string classical guitar and the girl accompanying her is playing a steel string acoustic guitar. They have slightly different tones. The classical guitar being a bit softer and "round", while the acoustic guitar is brighter. They probably chose that approach to enhance the texture of the rhythm bed.
@barontjr the palm muted strumming is god awful. which one is it? i can't tell, you can never see their hands well. who is it? whoever it is needs to be removed from the band. yeah, even if it's Norah Jones :P it's wilco for god's sake, not an acoustic cover of Rihanna
I was there. I'm a huge Wilco fan and had never given Norah Jones a chance, just not my kind of music. For all of you people criticizing this performance on youtube you don't understand how perfect of a vibe her set gave off. Completely laid back, relaxed, and all around wonderful. It may not translate perfectly here, but this certainly was a faithful and excellent cover that night.
I absolutely love Norah's new Cd. Indeed, If one plays it backwards, you can hear a hidden track Called "Troglodyte Blues" which is symbolic for the White Man becoming backwards.
Its just a little to fast. but i never would have looked up wilco and discovered their music if she didn't do this cover. I think thats kinda the point of doing a good cover. :)
I don't have a problem with Norah Jones (in fact, I think she has a beautiful voice), but the arrangement here seems a little messy. She and the other guitarist are stepping on each other's feet, methinks.
They say that imitation is the most sincerest form of flattery,so I was glad that she paid serious homage to Jeff Tweedy and Wilco. Whether or not she did a good or bad job with the song (and I think she did very well with it) doesn't matter. If it was the Culture Club or Metallica covering Wilco,I would be just as happy! LOL!
I love the original but I like this too, it's different, so? It's a different spin, and while I'm head over heels for the original, I think variety can only keep things fresh. It's tasteful and pretty and sincere, and that's cool.
Sounds very detached from the song... she has a lovely voice but she isn't really conveying the song itself in her presentation, and the harsh downstrokes are too aggressively driving for this song. But I'm glad she covered it, any Wilco exposure is good exposure in my book.
It's obvious why Wilco fans do not like this cover. Norah Jones' voice is so good that it really highlights the limitations of Wilco's lead singer, Tweedy.
'Limitations'? In what sense? Not sure what you mean there. I'm both a Wilco fan and a Norah fan. I think they are both great singers who convey a lot of emotion in their singing. Jeff is a fantastic rock singer, even better live than on record, I can assure you. Norah did a great cover of a great song here. She makes it her own, which is the mark of a good cover. I personally like to avoid assumptions most of the time.@catullusrl
Love Nora but feel this version kind of stabs at the song with its sharp down-stroke rhythm. Maybe that's the intention.... Still prefer Wilco for this one!!!! Interesting though....
My appologies. I did realize it was a Jeff Tweedy- WILCO song and should have rephrased the sentence. I copy Mr. Tweedy's version myself . Both great. Still like this version better with the stand-up bass.
Interesting hearing one of my favorite Wilco tunes interpreted by a woman. Especially a woman like Norah who can sing this well. GREAT video, thanks for posting this!
I'm a big-time Wilco fan and this is probably my favorite song of theirs. This version's not bad. I definitely prefer the original, but this one's still good. Definitely not the ZOMG ABORSHUN some people seem to be making it out to be.
No their not "mainstream". That's why they are playing a FREE concert at the Olympics 2010?!?! From the counter at Starbucks to this; a concert to SUPPORT the Olympics. Sorta goes against all the Woody Guthrie stuff.
Obviously there will be wilco fanboys who will hat e this version becuase it's a more mainstream artist recording a classic song but while this is not a revolutionary cover, it s a beautiful rendition and her new alum is very good. But not as good wilco(the album) but then what is?
Come on, folks. I love Wilco and Norah Jones isn't really anything big in my book. But she's got talent, she's charming, she's a good singer and she did this song justice.
I think that it's great that an artist like Nora Jones swould cover a Wilco tune - and why not, it's a fantastic song and she has an amazing voice - Well Done.
Once I saw her in new orleans before a show. I had no idea who she was, just thought she was a pretty girl so I said hello. Then she came out on stage and I was like holy crap that's that girl I met.
