As an Irish person, Im insulted we were told to vote twice, had we said no again (im ashamed of us for not) they'd have told us to keep guessing till we got the right answer...
NO SIDE: Shinners, Ganley, Socialists, Coir, Eirigi, UKIP, Le Pen, BNP.
YES SIDE: all international chambers of commerce, 3 main political parties, IFA, IBEC, SIPTU, ICTU, most major trade unions, Ryanair, Intel, Microsoft.
For a political party which covets the exercise of exclusive sovereign powers free from outside international interference.... what the fuck are you doing in our country?
Last time I checked, Ireland has been outside of the UK for some time now.
Right kzearo. How could a society which is based on a moneytarian system where the greatest value is corporate profits and corporate dictatorship could possibly be democratic? Our society is profoundly sick. The crash of the absurd economic system will make us better people I think.
I wish you knew what Declan Ganley was like, he says he is pro European because that goes down well in Ireland. But he courts the most anti European politicians inc UKip. His basic agenda is to weaken Europes voice in the world so US is more dominant.
The payback comes in $100's Millions in luctritive US military contract for his co. Rivada Networks
Ganley is the most Cynical politician ever, he wants a divided Europe, and a strong NATO he will get more lucrative military contracts of US Gov for his Rivada Networks company
fair enough. theres talk that those slimy bastards want us back at the polls by spring-be 100% sure-if the irish are made vote on lisbon again before christmas '09 it will be crushed.
unless the economic upheavals turn about 20% of the electorate into turkeys who like to vote for christmas
France, Holland, Ireland: big fat hug to you guys. Bottom line in Democracy is: one man, one vote. And your choice was made clear - admirably. And the subservient majorities in other countries were denied the liberty of choice. Well, now that Brussels has declared war on Liberty, let's march to Brussels, burn the place and hang those criminals, in accordance with their own Lisbon treaty, which explicitly allows for the death penalty in times of war. Yes to Europe, NO EU. Thanks from Germany.
„all the leaders of course have signed up to this particular treaty and in ireland according to the national constitution they have to have a referendum" -- yes, and very many people are thankful that the irish had a referendum, because Austrian politicians (where I am from) refused to hold one, even though there were protests asking for one; but the response was much like Ms. Wallströms following quote:
...„but lets leave it to the leaders to discuss what to do in a situation like this" -- NO- let the leaders obey the public opinion -because we are after all (still....) a democracy! ...
...I think many of us embrace the economic opportunities, the mobility with less bureaucracy (being able to work abroad easily and having your education accredited without months of paperwork and exams), even the common currency has advantages despite obvious drawbacks, ...
....but we don't need to become a totalitarian, centralized U.S. of Europe, and at least many Austrians treasure being NEUTRAL and do not want the possibility to be drawn into a war due to politicians greed and inability to solve problems peacefully.
It's only the beginning of the fight. Brussels is like a neighborhood bully who will throw a huge tantrum now that one of the smaller kids has stood up to him.
ALL the major Parties were in favour of a yes vote as were the media...and yet the PEOPLE said NO...
Meaning that they abandoned Party Loyalties and media brainwashing in favour of commonsense...
Now that is REAL DEMOCRACY at work.
Shame on the tripartite Party rulers in the House of Commons who ignore our wishes - abandon manifesto promises - and can only smell the money trough and run squealing to be fed.
it is just like watching the old soviet union ..if you euro dreamers want to build a country called Europe ...you better ask it's citizens....frightened we will say no? what does that say for democracy...it stinks to high heaven!!

Ireland is the only country to reject the Lisbon treaty because we are the only country that was asked. All the main political parties here were in favour of the treaty, and if the Irish ratification process took place at a parliamentary level, as it did in the 18 other countries, it would have passed. But it didn't so you can't say with any certainty that the citizens of those 18 countries would have ratified the treaty had their respective governments bothered to ask the public what they want.
punchthedog...."you can't say with any certainty that the citizens of those 18 countries would have ratified the treaty had their respective governments bothered to ask the public"
Yes, and you might be able to say with some certainty that several of those 18 countries would come out against the Lisbon treaty had their opinions been sought through referendum - Britain would be one of them,
As N Farage said in the Parliament.... 'LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE'
no one wants the EU if you think were wrong give us our freedom of speech and let US vote. don't tell us whats good for us and what isn't. the treaty is dead , dead as a parrot. take the irish NO as a NO.
'We respect the results, but we will ignore them.' David Milliband - what a schill. -Why won't Britain have a referendum? -Well, we know the answer to that don't we? -Don't derail the plan for a New World Order!
nigel, great stuff,i agree!im irish i voted No, infact i did read parts of the document, if they want to give every cititzen a LEGAL vote why didnt they give france, germany, the u.k or holland a democratic vote.
i also voted against enlargment&then was told i voted wrong or the turn-out was low.i dont believe turkey is part of europe& i never wanted europe to grow as fast as it has recently!i will follow ur party from now on and wish u well. Stay involved &try get on irish media and t.v..Thanks
By the way the politicians didn't read the treaty, but it was obvious that the opponents had studied it. The only references to specific articles came from the no side.
Is there any evidence that the rest of europe wants this treaty. Isn't it the case that a europe wide referendum would defeat it?
Note Nigel's intelligent use of the term "United States of Europe" in 5:59, the same Jean Monnet used in the 20s; Monnet also warned that such entity could only be created if they robbed us of our sovereignty slowly and progressively. The unelected Wallstrom talking about "interpreting" the decision of a people; how ironic.
As she said, the leaders signed up. Not the people.
There needs to be a more direct democratic process.
We don't need leaders, we need administrators that carry out the wishes of the people. Pompous asses think they know what's best for the millions that don't even get a say. When the people do say no the asses just say yes anyways.
A handful of selected elite ruining the lands and lives of millions of people.
And if I here the ward "TERRORISM" one more time I'm gonna SNAP.
this is the most outrageous thing I have ever seen in my life: voters send a resounding NO (Ireland, Holland and France), and their leaders keep going!.
I belive the unelected bureaucratic thugs in brussels will force a freedom destroying constitution on the people of Europe. Destroying national sovereignty and the right to self determination. EVERY country that has been allowed a vote has said NO. 480m people denied that vote because the power mad mafia in brussels knew we would all vote NO. We know they will ignor the Irish result as they do not understand the word NO. This is a war between the EU unelected thugs and the people of Europe.
Can't believe what the Foreign puppet secretary is saying!! The prime ministers signed a treaty that they hadn't even read!! A reader-friendly version of the treaty cannot be printed by any institution until the 27 member states have approved it. Ain't that suspect?!?! Excuses, more excuses (Wallstrom). Anyways, it's nice to see all puppets spewing their excuses to be "undemocratic".
This is depressing to me. I voted No, but for none of the reasons most people seem to be claiming Ireland voted for. The No vote seems to be highjacked to be anti-EU, which it clearly isn't. Personally I have no problem with the EU gaining further powers, but not in the way the Lisbon treaty spells out.
Please don't highjack my vote foreigners. It's our statement, not yours, don't try and tell us what we voted for.
Oh, and don't make us vote again, or it WILL be an anti-EU vote

Great question and thanks for asking it!

Oooh get you!
Last time I checked unfortunately we are all in the EU, so in the interests of 'EU solidarity' we're here to provided balance.
But of course in reality you're quite happy for the 'foreign interference' of the YES vote. Tell me, what the fuck are the they doing in Ireland?

Yes to Lisbon gives even more power to the EU !
Google these sites :
Project Indect (EU funded project to MONITOR You-tube,Facebook,blogs and comments,PC's etc for "abnormal behaviour")
EGF (the EUs own Para-military : European Gendarmerie Force)
Sitcen (the EUs own secret service)
Europol (EU cops granted immunity from criminal prosecution)
European Arrest Warrant (now being used for petty crime, see fair Trials international)
Say NO unless you want to live in a totalitarian state !

« The EU can lawfully suppress political criticism of its institutions and of leading public figures « ( European Court of Justice ruling 2001 ).
The European Charter of Fundamental Rights (art.2,passage 2) states that the death penalty can be used for « rioting, civil upheaval & during war ».
However, in the Charter ,the right to vote has been left out.
Ask Ireland why !
Vote in the June EU parliament elections for a restoration of DEMOCRACY !

Yes, correction accepted, I use Europe/EU interchangeable.
You highlight my point, Ganley in Ireland says he is pro EU, then courts the most anti EU politicians in Europe.
Ganley is a very good business man and that is his agenda. He stands to make a lot more money in an insecure divided Europe.
