  • Myself, I wouldn't use gloves around fast moving machinery. Ol' three Finger Jack told me that. Seriously, you do run the risk of something grabbing some part of the glove and hurt'en ya. Also, when working with knives, especially if I'm making one (usually out of table saw blades), doing so without gloves lets me know how much the knife blade is heating up. Before it starts getting uncomfortable to hold, I know it's time to cool it. With gloves, you can't detect over heating until too late.

  • The new item number for this sander is 97181. I am happy with it. Thanks for the vid.

  • Can it handle a plane blade 2 and 3/8 s

Is the motor 1/3 or 3/4?

  • @guitarsandsuchetc The motor says 3/4 HP input and 1/3 HP output, I believe it would be rated at 1/3 HP. I think they put this on the motor to make it look more powerful than it is. It has enough power for shaping and sharpening the blades, but if you are going to remove a lot of material then a 1 HP motor would be better. It works great on all blade shapes, I used the one in the video because it was an odd curved shape. Thanks for the comments.

  • @guitarsandsuchetc Aren't plane blades supposed to be perfectly flat? I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to use a belt to sharpen them.

  • How is that harbor freight bench sander in regards to the surface being flat to a corresponding straight edge?

That current model you have is on back order, should I get the similar model?

  • @guitarsandsuchetc The local Harbor Freights are always out of some tool or another. I usually ask the manager and he/she will tell me when they expect more. The wait is normally a week. I would recommend something similar in power, but not weaker. My belt sander works great and the surface is completely flat. The side disc sander is adjustable which helps start the blade angles. Craig's list is a great place to find a good belt sander at a cheap price.

  • @mrmilleniumproof

    Thank you brother.

  • @mrmilleniumproof I picked up the sander in Fresno California yesterday.
