Beautiful, sad and captivating tune, great playing - again and again - and delivered in the right spirit, just very beautiful...When trying to sing along though, I end up doing the Irish voice :o))...probably induced by the melody. Perfect for a sing-along in a pub around a fireside, too...
Sweet! love your instrument! I've been stalled out on the dulcimer lately because I want to start playing it upright - very cool to see you playing it this way. Stevens Pass, represent!
What a great song. I've always loved the sound of the dulcimer. It's the mountain girl in me. ;) Maybe I'll get me one one day. I loved the lyrics. Very sad and emotional. It sounds authentically folksy, as if it really were written back when that happened. I love that about it. :)
You can't beat a good train wreck or a mining disaster, and shipwrecks at sea are all excellent material for folk songs. You packed a lot into that song... fortitude and heroism, determination and perseverance.
Ballads are best when they speak of a triumph of the human spirit in the face of disaster.
Such an "authentic" sound and feel that if you hadn't said it was an original I'd have been scouring the folksong indeces for origins versions and variations. This, in my opinion is an almost perfect song of its type.
Nice original song and great sounding strumstick, I have one of those I need to play a bit more often. Thanks for the inspiration and friendly invite. Mark
Wow, what an awesome song! It sounds great on the strumstick, but then again it would on triangle, bagpipe or any other instrument too. Love the lyrics.
I really enjoyed that, Grumpy. I've ridden over Stevens Pass on my bike (both ways) a few times. It's a beautiful ride, but I know it can be a hard place in winter. Faved!
This is so amazing, the story, the playing. I was just getting my courage up to play my Strumstick on camera again, but now...well, this is the way it *should* be played!
This is YT at its best. Thank God for a format that lets musicians share their songs without having to play on a street corner or in a dingy bar (both are favorite hangouts of mine) but you deserve far better sir. You never cease to amaze me. Excellent!!
lew is great,,,you have done a excellent song...thanks for posting

Very good. Where do you get all of your unusual instruments?

In most cases the interwebs... On-line ordering is far too easy to do.
The tenor guitar and one of my ukes came from friends though. They are not helping my adiction.

Lewdite is a cool guy, sure wish I had a strumstick, how much do those cost by the way?
rustler540 1 year ago
About $170US from these guys for the "grand". The MacNally's are the cheapest and the only production model I think.
Personally I'd prefer a custom with a bigger body, but the price is nice on these - and they are well made, if just a little hard to hold.
