  • Hey man thanks so much for this video! I've been searching and searching for a decent valve check/adjustment video for a long time and no one ever seems to explain it step-by-step and clearly enough. You did a really good job and I completely understand it all now, thanks ! Luke

  • hey great vid can i use that paper valve clearnes thing for shims for every dirt bikes or only yamaha?

  • all your videos are very nice and make valve adjustment so simple.thanks

ps.i guess if you go to a garage they will put you shims for 0.24 for WELCOME AGAIN give us your money! xaxaxaxaxa

  • hey tooextrememx i have a question im doing a shim replacement on my intake valves on my trx450r and i can not at all get any feeler guages in on either side too tight no clearence at all i can force a .007 feeler in but i half to pry to get it back out anything less would just bow so i did mic my shims and the left was .068 and right was .069 do i start at zero and how would i do the formula my intake clearence is suppopse to be .006 or .16 any info would help thanks

  • I love this vid! This is going to be my first time doing shims on my own so Im kind of worried. I have a crf250r 09 bike.

  • Thanks for the vid man. Im doing a cam grind on a car engine and this is one of the only vids that explains why we need thicker or thinner shims. It may only be for a quad bike but it certainly gave me info into the whole shims thing. Thanks

  • @Fpvgt290 i am glad my vid helped for more then just what it was intended for LOL.

  • Man you've been wicked helpful. ive been watching alot of your yfz vids and have done nearly all (oil upgrade on my 04 should be done by the end of the month). When i start the quad i can hear a tick from the valve train, it does get better as the quad gets warmer, but it makes me nervous none the less. so im gonna check the valves. My concern is if/when i remove the cams, whats the best way to keep the chain from falling, and the best way to reinstall the cams in time.

  • @crximportrider wow sry i missed your post it didn't show up in my inbox. well this may hit you a little late but what i do is tie a string threw the chain and to a wrench i am not using and let it hang to the exhaust side. getting the cams in when putting them back in is tricky be paitient and take your time doing it you may have to get 1 set perfect befor working on the other.

  • Thx . I needed all 3 sections .Keep them coming. Great job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hey do u know if the cheat sheet is used on a 1999 yzf400 too i need to do a shim replacement and needed some help with it

  • @coldfusion189 i believe the cheat sheet would work with any shim style valve system you would just have to know what your clearances should be.

  • thanks alot really helped me out and simplified it :)

  • hey.i have a question. i have a yfz and the aftermarket exaust i put on it the is off an R1. it sounds great but splutters and backfires an awful lot.espeichly if i hold it at half trottle....could this exuast damage my engine??thanks

  • @sparx10james i have seen alot of people use pipes that aren't made for there quads it can cause damage if you do not properly jet you quad when you do this, and in your case with the backfire issue it sounds like your jetting is pretty bad right now so i would look into getting it rejetted as soon as posable or valve damage could happen.

  • Great Vid Mate, Thanks Heaps, Ive always wondered what they mean by checking the valve clearances ;)

  • @FluffMuncher glad this was informational too you.these valve videos are for newer style sport quads as some of the older quad still have rocker arm type valve system.i will be posting a vid shortly on how to check and adjust those style valves.

  • very good, thanks

  • Nice vid. I was wondering if it was the same as a yz250f? The manual for mine says to measure the cams and not to check the gap between the cam and the buckets. Should I do it the way u do it?

  • @dirtrider510457 that don't really sound right cuz the cams don't wear as fast as the valves and the shims do.i am pretty sure you check them just like i posted here but i will dbl check and let you know.

  • nice vid man in the past i paid someone to rebuild my topend on my yfz450 as i didnt know crap about 4 strokes thanks for the info you give us .. i ride 2 stroke now but still appreciate watching your vids

  • good videos, thanks alot. you just saved me $400

  • @ed563 yea i thought it was crazy to pay so much money for something so simple my 12 year old son actually did it on a friends YFZ i double check to make sure it was right.

  • thanks glad the video could help.

  • manual link now posted in discription

  • thanks all.i wish my video editing software worked with the mov files from my camera cuz the originall video was a bit better then theis one.i had to reshoot this one in just 1 take.
