  • I missed it all as I was raising three kids, but true art is timeless and I found it now.

  • glad the songs are on you tube

  • yea i saw this same lineup in Clifton Park, NY , smoked a fattie with Root outside and it was sad because he was a piece of burnt toast at this point in his career. Lots of incoherent yelling and mumbling.

  • You gotta love how he leaves the stage in the middle of the songs. Only the Root could get away with that. Any Root fans should visit the fan page on Facebook or the official website. Tell them you want to see another tribute show like they played last night (1/16/2011) at the Whiskey in Annapolis. It was like finding a time machine, and hopefully they'll be inspired to do it again.

  • This is not the Root Boy that I've seen in concert in the early 80s. He was dynamic & all ver the place. Here, the band is cooking away as Root Boy flounders.

  • @rickinbutler He died 4 years later, I guess it all caught up with him.

  • My Childhood and life changed forever after seeing rootboy at the Old Fairfax Theater in about 1978. i was 14 and my buddy was 16, we stole his parents car and drove there from Vienna.

  • Slim was running on fumes by this time. Someone must have some live footage that predates this. He was in his prime from '77 - '84 but all the bands were great. Fantastic musicians. I miss going over and visiting with Slim in his Bethesda apartment. I changed his shower head once. Man, was that gross. I have him doing a cameo in "Double Shot Of My Baby's Love" by the Catholics posted here.

  • Great to see the "basket case of the blues" again, may he rest in peace. I've seen him countless times and sure miss him. Root always had great players behind him but Earnie's right.. see his comments below... RBS and the Sex Change Band was the original and the hottest. Earnie wrote most of the tunes.. I've got a video of RBS & SCB, 69th amendment tour, at the Grog & Tankard, DC, 12/91. Earnie with R. Rattles on bass... KILLER!

  • Hell Yes! Good Ol Dr Sex? Seems that was what was painted on his chest at PB Scotts in Blowing Rock? back in the fog of the late 70's. Thank God someone had their webcam to get this. Go Root Boy! They could rock the house down!

  • webcam in 1989?

  • Yeah, I remember that show! Damn, talk about a haul, but what a beautiful place!!!

  • I'd love to see/hear that whole album with "I used to be a radical", "Mood Ring", Boogie til you Puke" I saw him in a dive in Chapel Hill around '79 or '80. Had the whole place doing the Gator..I don't think "The Rootets" were part of that show.We played the groves off that album...Great partial memories.

  • Don't forget "Country Love". I bought the CD release of this CD and the remastered edition of Zoom just recently at Joe's Record Paradise in Rockville MD. Got anything interesting to trade?

  • This ain't exactly the 'Old' RBS and the SCB Show! This is WAAAAAY too fast..and there's NO SHOW. If you dig this, you should have seen us in full regalia circa '77-'79. Don't get me wrong....Wayne, Brent and Brandon are badass players, and good friends but this ain't the "SHOW". Boogie on, peoples!...and Happy New Year!!! Ernie Lancaster

  • That's my cousin Wayne Tomlinson on guitatar and I'm proud of him. I only knew Slim for a little bit before he passed on. What an intelligent yet freaky person. RIP Slim.

    Love, Russ

  • Yeah, Man! I DIG Wayne....he's a fantastic player!!!

I wish he'd show me some of that tappin' stuff he does!

    Super Monster Killer!

  • Yea' I was there that night. I might of been working the door. Root was living in a Silver Spring group house at the time. They had some cool parties there. I played with Wayne in another band 4 awhile. The band leader tried to dress him up to look all rock star. Cowboy hat' the boots' the whole 9 yards.

I didn't see the point. His guitar playing speaks 4 itself.

  • Roger that. Wayne's skill speaks for itself. I remember Slim billing Wayne as "20 fingers Tomlinson". It's a shame that Wayne never got the break that he deserved. I am still VERY proud of him.

    :)

  • Root certainly observed and encouraged the Lowest Common Denominator... the Charles Bukowski of Boogie! in classic detachment, he anonintest the buffoonery with beer.

  • wow. where did this come from ?! are these the "barbeque juiceheads" hes playing with ? saw root around this same time in clifton park, ny at Tigers Pub. please post more if you have. thx

  • rootboy slim owes me money !

  • root boy slim owes me money too .

Dr. Albino - former bass player

  • " I used to be a radical, pissed on the pentagon ...."

  • Great guitar solo! I miss DC Space and other venues of the past.

  • This is great stuff......I shot him at weedstock that summer and hope to get something up for all to see soon

  • That would be great. Root deserves alot more exposure. Would especially love to see "The Loneliest Room in the World" and "I'm Not Too Old For You".

  • i lived in the d.c. area '76-'82.never got to see the root master ,but herd him on the radio much.Fucken killer stuff!!!Root On!!!

  • Unfortunately Slim was in decline here. Would like to see a 1980 live show but any Slim is better than no Slim. The band is smoking as usual.

  • We did the gator in the alley, I guess it was like an alley-gator. Then we boogied till we puked. But dozin' and droolin' that was my favorite thing after takin' acid and climbing over the white house fence, just to see who was the president. Root you broke my mood ring when you left us...but you'll never die. Long live Root Boy Slim.

  • Did Root Boy die?If so,peace of God forever.I love that dude.I'm too old to disco, she broke my mood ring, found my wig,dog has my teeth.Keep on puking SLIM!!!!

  • just like root boy, nappin' on the job :)

  • almost as good as wesley willis!

  • I saw most of my Root Boy shows in the early 80s. I remember a crazy show at an unusual venue - a bar in Tyson's Corner. He had a couple of ladies on background vocals and I might even remember some horns in the band.

  • The "ladies" were the Rootettes. The "horns" was Ron Holloway on Sax who also played with Dizzy G. Cheers...

  • Deanna Bogart did time with Root, also... circa Wax Museum show in DC.
