Yeah the iPhone/iTouch version works. Use one finger to hold on the screen and use another to tap until it starts. Try not to touch anywhere where the map/menu is or the directional arrows.

well, will probably said A and B buttons because he has the gba version of ff. it should be the same process with the ps1 version. just replace A with X and B with circle.
