I love all types of dancing, and the technical moves of ballet and modern dancing are jaw dropping, BUT this woman, Carmen Amaya, moves me like no other!! She is magnificent! She inspires me to dance, as I do, with all of my heart, all of my emotions, all of my power free-flowing throught it, forget any and all around me! I am always moved whenever I watch her. The very first time I saw her over the Youtube, she moved me to tears. No other dancer of any form has captured me in such a way.

@amayagra Ten en cuenta que los gitanos son muy cristianos. En Sevilla tienen hasta el Cristo de los Gitanos. En lugar de "cristiano" deberías de haber puesto "payo". Aunque muchos payos han sido grandes "bailaores" como Antonio, José Antonio, Antonio Gades, Sara Baras, Eva Yerbabuena, Blanca del Rey etc.

I love the way her niece and the daughter of the later dance today but I'm afraid they don't get close to the quality their aunt had. Carmen had more power, fluidity, and strenghth. Overall, they are all amazing....!

I think that perhaps she wore the pants to show off the moves better.  Skirts & ruffles impede movement & hide so much of the refined footwork; much is lost. (Please, I'm sure that she did not possess "balls".)

i disagree. you cannot compare amaya to flatley. not at all. histories of the gypsys and the irish are different. roots of flamenco different to roots of irish dancing. amaya was not just a dancer, she was much more for the people of spain and especially for the gypsies.
